Gary Johnson and other presidential hopefuls will participate in a Libertarian Party debate Saturday afternoon in Orlando.

Johnson, the former New Mexico governor, who dropped his bid for the Republican nomination last month, will be joined on the debate stage by party activist Lee Wrights, Kiowa Nation member and Afghan war veteran R.J. Harris, author and documentary filmmaker Bill Still, former Texas Libertarian Party chair Roger Gary, entrepreneur Leroy Saunders and Carl Person.

The presidential debate, held as part of the Libertarian Party of Florida convention at the Embassy Suites, will be open to the public.

All the above candidates have been in past debates of LP presidential candidates, except for Leroy Saunders. The Sun-Sentinel adds

Libertarian front-runner Gary Johnson will campaign in the state this week, including a stop in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday.

He also plans to attend the state Libertarian Party conference in Orlando Feb. 10 to 12 — all part of seeking the party’s nomination at a national convention in May in Las Vegas.

Scott Keller officially announces that he is seeking the 2012 Libertarian Party Presidential nomination with a liberty and solution-oriented platform, which promises to turn the economy around in 6-12 months, while paring down the size of the Federal government and returning to the American people many of the liberties they have lost over the past eleven years.

He, like Ron Paul, has set forth a plan to end the Federal Reserve. Mr. Keller has promised to lead the effort to return to a sovereign currency, increase autonomy of States and local towns and cities, bring home all troops not in essential roles overseas, and get the Federal government out of the private lives of American Citizens. His positions on issues have consistently been in favor of solutions that minimize government involvement and help people from all sides of an issue.  ”I believe in innovation and the great potential in people.  There’s almost nothing we can’t accomplish if we just focus on getting it done,” says Keller.

Mr. Keller also stands out as the only candidate who openly supports such research and development efforts as The Venus Project, which aims to further shrink the role of government and increase peoples’ freedoms.  Also, he supports testing new economic models such as resource-based economies and open source economies. and various forms of local currencies and exchange systems.

He will face off against Gary Johnson, Bill Still, Roger Gary, R. J. Harris, James Ogle, Carl Person, Joy Waymire, and Lee Wrights at the Libertarian National Convention to be held in May in Las Vegas. The Libertarian Party expects to have ballot access in all 50 states for their chosen nominee.

CLEARWATER, FLORIDA – The State of Florida is facing a legal challenge to the new driver’s license requirements as mandated by the Department of Homeland Security under the REAL ID Act. Libertarian Party of Florida Chairman and syndicated radio talk host Adrian Wyllie was cited for driving without a license, and will argue that the new DL requirements force citizens to waive their constitutional rights in order to be granted the “privilege” of driving.

The the original trial was held on September 7, 2011, but after hearing Wyllie’s defense constitutional grounds, Magistrate Julee Milham postponed the trial to give the prosecution more time to prepare for a case of this magnitude.

“This is huge. This is a very big deal,” said Milham, “You want it to be fully and fairly vetted.”

Wyllie surrendered his driver’s license on May 17, 2011, on the grounds that he refused to provide the personal documents required by REAL ID without a warrant. Wyllie then called several law enforcement agencies to report he was driving without a license. Despite his efforts, police ignored the violation.

That was until July 15, when Wyllie issued a challenge to Pinellas County Sheriff Jim Coats on his radio program to “Man up and pull me over.” Within four hours, Wyllie’s vehicle was stopped by Pinellas deputies and he was ticketed.

“This case is a first step in nullifying REAL ID, and determining whether the Fourth Amendment is still applicable in America,” said Wyllie. The U.S. Supreme Court has previously ruled that Americans cannot be required to waive a constitutional right in order to be granted a license for a privilege.

One of the components of the REAL ID Act is that States must acquire digital facial image captures which are compatible with facial recognition software, and upload them to a national database. Wyllie says he has subpoenaed the administrator of the PCSO’s facial recognition network, and will dig deep into how driver’s license data is being used for covert surveillance of Floridians. “We will reveal how the new data and facial recognition images collected are being unlawfully used by law enforcement,” said Wyllie.

The Florida legislature is also working to effectively repeal REAL ID. Florida Rep. Larry Ahern (R – St. Petersburg) has introduced HB 109, which would repeal virtually all the provisions of REAL ID that were implemented as part of the driver’s licensing process. A companion bill, S 220, has been introduced in the Florida Senate.

The trial will be held at the Pinellas County Criminal Court Complex, Courtroom 19, at 14250 49th Street North in Clearwater on Wednesday, October 5th at 4:00pm. The courtroom is open to the public and the media.

According to this story, former Florida State Senator Nancy Argenziano will run for Congress in 2012 as the nominee of the Independent Party. Earlier, Argenziano had expressed a desire to be a Democratic Party nominee in 2012, but the new election law passed this year forbids anyone from running in a party primary if that person had been a member of another qualified party during the preceding year. Argenziano left the Republican Party some time ago and registered as a member of the Independent Party, which is ballot-qualified. It appears her intent was to become an independent candidate. But, she is making the best of the situation, and will stick with the Independent Party.

Another part of the article refers to new requirements on small qualified parties, that they organize themselves with a structure similar to the Democratic and Republican Parties. That is also part of the election law passed in 2011. However, the new law does not unambiguously say what the article says it does. And even if the new law is interpreted strictly, it would then be unconstitutional under a unanimous U.S. Supreme Court opinion that says states cannot tell parties how to be organized. That decision, released in 1989, is called San Francisco County Democratic Central Committee v Eu, 489 U.S. 214. Also, in Jenness v Fortson, the U.S. Supreme Court said that it would be unconstitutional for states to treat small parties as though they were the same as the two major parties.

Dear Sheriff,

On this day in 1776, our forebears founded this Nation by declaring their independence from an oppressive government. This beautiful and timeless document expressed the self-evident truth that all people have certain inalienable rights, upon which no government can infringe. They asserted that governments are formed among men to secure these rights, not to impede or restrict them.

The Libertarian Party of Florida is reaching out to you, and to all of Florida’s 67 Constitutional Sheriffs. We, The People of the State of Florida must turn to you as our last line of defense against a federal government that is usurping authority and ignoring the rule of law.

I am referring specifically to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and their egregious violations of the United States Constitution, as well as the Florida Constitution and state law.

Every single day, TSA employees conduct electronic and bodily searches upon tens of thousands of Florida citizens and visitors at airports, and more recently at bus terminals, rail stations, and highways. They are searching the persons and seizing the effects of travelers without warrant or probable cause. Specifically, they are in blatant violation of the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which reads as follows:

“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

These TSA agents are also in clear violation of Article One, Section 12 of the Florida Constitution, which reads as follows:

“Searches and seizures.— The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures, and against the unreasonable interception of private communications by any means, shall not be violated. No warrant shall be issued except upon probable cause, supported by affidavit, particularly describing the place or places to be searched, the person or persons, thing or things to be seized, the communication to be intercepted, and the nature of evidence to be obtained.”

In addition, one of the methods by which the TSA agents conduct these searches, referred to as the “Enhanced Pat Down,” is clearly within the definition of felony sexual battery, as codified in Florida Statute 794.011.

I would like to point out that this statute clearly defines that it is a first degree felony when sexual battery is committed by a law enforcement agent in paragraph 4(g), which reads:

“When the offender is a law enforcement officer, correctional officer, or correctional probation officer as defined by s. 943.10(1), (2), (3), (6), (7), (8), or (9), who is certified under the provisions of s. 943.1395 or is an elected official exempt from such certification by virtue of s. 943.253, or any other person in a position of control or authority in a probation, community control, controlled release, detention, custodial, or similar setting, and such officer, official, or person is acting in such a manner as to lead the victim to reasonably believe that the offender is in a position of control or authority as an agent or employee of government.”

As Sheriff, you have the absolute duty to enforce the law uniformly and without prejudice. You are, at best, engaged in selective enforcement by choosing to further ignore these flagrant violations of federal and state law. At worst, you are complicit.

If you have TSA agents within your county that are violating the law, then you must act. Warn the TSA agents that they are subject to arrest if they continue to violate the law. Should they continue, then you must begin making arrests.

We urge you to remember the oath you took to support, protect and defend the Constitution of both the State of Florida and the United States of America. On behalf of all Floridians, the Libertarian Party of Florida calls on you to do exactly that.

We turn to you, our Constitutional Sheriffs, to enforce the law in accordance with your sworn duty.

The U.S. economy is crumbling. Businesses are collapsing in record numbers. Jobs have disappeared. Tax revenues are down dramatically. Coincidence?

Everything happening today under Obama resembles the storyline of Ayn Rand’s famous book, Atlas Shrugged, one of the most popular books of all time, selling over 7 million copies. Now, under President Obama, Atlas Shrugged has come to life. Rand prophesized a country dominated by socialists, Marxists and statists, where looters, free loaders and poverty promoters live off the productive class. To rationalize the fleecing of innovative business owners and job creators, the looter class demonized the wealthy, just as Obama and his socialist cabal are doing in real life today.

The central plot of Atlas Shrugged is that in response to being demonized, over-taxed, over-regulated, and punished for success, America’s business owners were disappearing — dropping off the grid, and refusing to work 16-hour days to support those unwilling to put in the same blood, sweat and tears. They were going on strike. Because of that the original proposed title of “Atlas Shrugged” was “The Strike.”

They were going on strike to teach that civilization cannot survive when people are slaves to government. That without a productive class of innovative business owners willing to risk their own money and work 16-hour days, weekends and holidays, there are no jobs and no taxes to pay for government. If you punish the wealthy, the risk-takers, the innovators, you kill the goose that lays the golden eggs. In Obama’s America, fiction is becoming fact.

The lesson of Atlas Shrugged is that without the $100,000+ earners paying into Social Security, there are no pensions for the poor and lower middle class. Without the wealthy owners of million-dollar mansions paying $25,000 and $50,000 annual property tax bills, there is no funding for public schools. Without the wealthy paying into Medicare, there is no “free” healthcare for the elderly. Without capitalists motivated by profit, there are no discoveries to eradicate polio or create miraculous cancer and AIDS drugs. Without capitalists motivated by profit, there are no jobs, period! That is what happens when the producers of society go on strike to protect themselves from the looters.

Ayn Rand was warning the looters that there are consequences to their overzealous actions. She was warning that if the productive classes felt used, demonized, ripped off, and taken for granted, they would go on strike — stop working, retire early, go underground, or move to places where achievement is celebrated and they feel appreciated.

The latest U.S. Census proves Ayn Rand right. Under Obama the wealthy are striking, voting with their feet. They are moving to low-tax red states in droves, escaping from high-tax blue states where they are being demonized and punished by the millions.

The Census proves that Obama’s tax and spend philosophy is a dismal failure, an economic disaster killing jobs. It is no coincidence that 1.9 million FEWER Americans are working than before Obama’s stimulus. It is no coincidence that jobs are not returning to the private sector. It is no coincidence that tax revenues have dropped dramatically and cannot support Obama’s bloated Big Brother government. The innovators, risk-takers, and wealthy he demonized and punished are on strike.

The high tech revolution has killed the progressive-liberal tax-and-spend dream. Because of the Internet, email, Facebook, Twitter, Skype, Satellite TV, I-phones, I-pads, and cell phones, business owners are no longer prisoners of Big Brother. Take a look at states where the latest Census shows Americans moved during the past decade: Nevada, Texas, Arizona, Florida, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alaska, Virginia — all low- or no-tax red states, states that lead the USA in economic freedom.

Now look at states they escaped from: New York, New Jersey, California, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Illinois, Michigan. Taxpayers, business owners, jobs creators, retirees with assets are fleeing the high tax, big spending, Big Brother states — the states being run like Obama is running the nation.

Progressives be afraid, be very afraid. If Obama is re-elected, these valuable producers will pick up and leave America altogether. There is a big world out there begging them to come. Places like Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Monte Carlo, Belize, Costa Rica, Panama, Bahamas, and Cayman Islands are low-tax havens that appreciate business owners and their sacrifices. They welcome wealthy ex-patriates. They celebrate individual achievement. They reward instead of punish business owners and financial risk-takers. They are wonderful places to live and are aggressively pursuing Americans.

I am just one small businessman, a third-party Libertarian political leader. Yet I personally have heard from thousands of fans, friends and supporters who have left America, are thinking of leaving America, are visiting other countries right now to decide where to go, or making preparations to leave in case Obama is re-elected. Just as Ayn Rand predicted, business owners are going on strike. Permanently.

The high tech revolution has freed them to run their businesses from anywhere in the world. The same high tech tools and toys that toppled a powerful and invincible 30-year dictator in Egypt and now threaten to topple powerful leaders throughout the Arab world, also offer mobility and freedom to U.S. taxpayers. Obama better learn the lesson of Mubarek before millions more business people decide they do not need to put up with looters, free loaders, and politicians who despise them.

Atlas is shrugging. Ayn Rand is saying “I told you so.”

And The Strike has begun.

LIVE OAK, FLORIDA – The Libertarian Party of Florida, in conjunction with the 1787 Network, is staging a rally to support whistleblower Bob Burton at the office of State Attorney Skip Jarvis on Saturday, June 25, 2011. The rally will be held at 100 Court Street SE in Live Oak beginning at noon.

Jarvis has been relentless in prosecuting Burton on wiretapping charges stemming from an incident where Burton recorded a phone conversation with a high-ranking state official who allegedly admitted to illegal activities being carried out by state agencies and members of the Florida Legislature.

Some of these alleged activities include Department of Environmental Protection employees dumping toxic waste into water reclamation areas, officials intimidating and coercing Florida land owners into selling to state-backed corporate interests, and state agencies unlawfully seizing private property.

In January, Burton’s home was raided by heavily-armed Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents, who executed a warrant to seize the evidence that Burton had collected, including his computer, cell phone, and video camera, as well as all copies of email correspondence with state officials. The FDLE also ordered YouTube.com to remove videos posted by Burton with supporting evidence.

Earlier this month, Burton was arrested and charged with illegally recording and disclosing a “private” conversation with Ryan Tyson, then the chief of staff for Florida Senator Charlie Dean. Tyson’s employment with Dean ended shortly after the conversation with Burton.

However, according to both the Florida Constitution and the Government in the Sunshine law, all conversations between Tyson and Burton are public record.

Burton was released from the Hamilton County jail on a $50,000 surety bond. The typical bond in Florida for this infraction ranges from $1,000 to $2,000, and the presiding judge did not cite reason for the unusually high bail amount.

Since his arrest on June 5, two judges have recused themselves from the Burton case without citing an official reason. Other government officials have privately expressed concerns that this case has the appearance of a political cover-up.

The rally is expected to draw crowds ranging from tea party members to environmental groups.

Fla. Libertarian Party Chairman to Surrender Driver’s License in Real ID Protest

CLEARWATER – Libertarian Party of Florida Chairman Adrian Wyllie will surrender his driver’s license in protest of Florida’s implementation of the Real ID Act at noon on Tuesday, May 17 at the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles office at 29399 Hwy 19 North in Clearwater (map). He has invited the public to witness the protest, and urges others to do the same.

Under the Real ID Act, state law requires that all applicants for a driver’s license or identification card submit an array of personal information, including an original birth certificate, social security card, marriage license(s), utility bills, and other documents. These documents are then scanned into an interstate database managed by the Department of Homeland security.

In addition to the new documentation requirements, Florida now requires that all driver’s license and state ID card applicants be subjected to a “digital facial image capture” that is compatible with facial recognition software. Wyllie believes that all of these intrusive requirements are a violation of the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, and his ultimate goal is to challenge Real ID in court. Wyllie has been outspoken on Real ID, as well as RFID and facial recognition use with drivers’ licenses on his syndicated AM radio show, Liberty Underground.

“After surrendering my driver’s license, I will immediately contact the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office to advise them that I am now traveling in violation of Florida statute 322.03, paragraph 1,” said Wyllie.

It is his intention to attempt to renew his driver’s license without being subjected to the new, unconstitutional requirements under Real ID Act of 2005.

Should the DHSMV not allow him to renew his driver’s license under these conditions, he plans to surrender his driver’s license to them. However, he says that he will continue to drive as an exercise of his common law right, and as a protest to Real ID.

If necessary, Wyllie says he is willing to be arrested for driving without a driver’s license. “I will do so willingly and peacefully to avoid additional charges, such as resisting, obstruction, etc. Martyrdom is not my intention,” said Wyllie. “An arrest or citation under FS 322.03(1) would simply establish standing in court, so that I may challenge the law.”

Wyllie will assert that the DHSMV cannot compel one to produce the required documentation as a precondition of operating a personal vehicle. Nor can they require one to present personal papers or effects, or be subject to a “digital facial image capture” used for the purposes of facial recognition identification. Doing so would force one to waive one’s Fourth Amendment rights.

Since the Real ID Act requires that no person shall be recognized for any official federal government purpose without a Real ID compliant identification card or driver’s license, it places one in the position of having to waive their Fourth Amendment rights in order to be considered a recognized U.S. citizen.

“I understand that mine is but one voice, but perhaps when united in a national chorus of discontent against those who would willingly deny you and I as Americans, access to our natural public resources, foundations to governmental entities and asserted councils can better understand how such radical anti-fishing rhetoric is truly impacting the cultural heritage and traditions of our vital coastal infrastructure and refusing us our basic human rights as established under the public trust doctrine.”

The Tea Party, to which I follow closely, is not a political party, nor is it looking to form a third political party any time soon, as stated on their web site but we as The Florida Whigs, will be, upon election, that third party to which will be the conscience of the other two, in forming a bond to the Red, White and Blue. I am up for a fight! Putting the feet to the fire with regards to numbers. Education and Health care are big issues to our state and unless your on the receiving end, how do you know what is best for me or you? As an elected official, you must follow to what the people of Florida want, not to what the Government wants. They are into our fisheries, health care, education, unions and now purposing a catch share system for the recreational fisherman; what we can or cannot believe in and I say enough is enough! I Want No More! We are sliding more and more away from the Free Market in Florida advertising dollars because the FDA wants our children protected from unapproved advertisements, our Federal Government does not want? Since when did the Feds tell the States what to do? The bribes must stop. You do this or we give you no more funding; since when did a barter system set itself up with in our fiscal budgets of our Federal Government? Florida right to fish laws are being completely ignored. How much more are we going to be forced to put up with? The unnecessary gag shut down will result in a loss of three billion dollars, and 5000 jobs. Do you realize this order by the Czars was done as all the new regulations are done by them, without an economical feasibility study. They skipped that phase because it is quicker and probably would have recommended against it but that is what The NOAA /NMFS Councils do; ruin lives through U.N. Protocol! Why is it that your Governor or Senator has not come forward and said; Article I – The Legislative Branch, Section 10 – Powers prohibited of States: No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation…Tell them what they can do with it! Has nobody have a pair anymore or are they too involved in other interests?

Another by-product to all of this mess are agencies such as NOAA. NOAA is not just about weather, it too is taking your rights away to take your son or daughter fishing. The industry is on a change, put up for sale and now controlled by NGO’s, such as PEW and the EDF, with companies behind the scenes, like the Walton Family and the Tyson’s, licking their chops on just how much money they will make off the privatization of your ocean and beaches. By following rules set by NOAA and its Czars and Councils, our Commercial and recreational fishing fleets are floundering in our waters. Championed by NOAA administrator Dr. Jane Lubchenco, catch shares and sector management cut the capacity of the fishing fleet dramatically to trickle down economics, only can show how we will lose millions if not billions in tourist dollars to seafood exports because of old rules set by the Federal Government over OUR OWN State waters. Before the Feds wish to take away my disability benefits and yours because of monies in need, why not look into NOAA and its increase to the $5.554 billion dollars awarded to them for more orbiting satellites to tell us what a tornado looks like. Money that could have gone towards a needy cause or, hm…maybe paying off our debt, what a concept!

Get Out and Stay out; administer your own backyard but stay out of mine and as far as Magnuson-Stevens, it needs a revision to the fullest extent, if not either rewritten or abolished all together. Conservation is as good as you put into it and the ways that NOAA is reading the rules, they need to go back to school!

As of late, I have been reading the The Constitution of the United States. It is a fascinating piece of work and other than a few spellings, it could have been written yesterday. It has some enlightening areas to which I wonder when was the last time Congress read it, not looked at it but actually, word for word read its Amendments of 27, as all the Articles within? As the Constitution of the United States of America and our Bill of Rights, we as The Florida Whig Party, support principles before party, personality, and profits, with deeds not words, constructive contribution from all members, and Classical Whig movements and political party efforts from coast-to-coast and border to border . Welcome to the 21st Century Florida Whig Party with historically based principles.

Gary Anderson Makes History

With the announcement that an exploratory committee has been formed, Gary Anderson becomes the first Whig [A FLORIDA WHIG] to test the waters for the U.S. Senate since the 1800s.

Mr. Anderson becomes the first known Whig [Florida Whig Party] since the mid 1800s to announce his intention to seek a seat in the United States Senate.

If elected, Gary Anderson will be the first Whig from Florida to serve in the United States Senate since Jackson Morton (1849-1855).  At the same time, as Senator Morton served in Washington, Governor Thomas Brown, the first Whig Governor of the State of Florida (1849-1853), and serving the state and was the driving force behind public funding for schools; which resulted in what is today’s University of Florida.

In Florida, there are currently five nuclear reactors in operation in Florida, with two at Turkey Point on Biscayne Bay, two in Port St. Lucie, and one at Crystal River. The Crystal River reactor (CR-3) has been shut down for repairs since September 2009, when a large crack was discovered in the concrete and steel containment vessel. In recent weeks, just as the plant was being prepared to go back online, new cracks were discovered.

Now the Green Party of Florida says after Japan, no more.

“Floridians must tell President Obama and Governor Scott, as well as our elected representatives in Tallahassee, that we oppose any further public subsidies for the nuclear industry,” said Jayne King, co-chair of the Green Party of Florida. “The public and the government should not be guaranteeing profits for the companies building more nuclear reactors in the state,” King added, “because there are plenty of safer and less expensive options for meeting the state’s energy needs.”

The debate will be moderated by 2010 Libertarian senatorial candidate Alex Snitker. Adrian Wyllie was the former Media Director on Snitker’s campaign and has already been endorsed by the former candidate.. John Wayne Smith was initially the party’s candidate for Governor in 2010, but he and his running-mate (former LPF Chairman JJ McCurry, who quit the post) were knocked off the ballot. Austin Parris is a student at Palm Beach Community College who recently ran for State House as a Libertarian. Char-Lez Branden is the current Vice-Chairwoman of the Party.

Engine of the World is the website of Austin Parris who describes himself as “a registered Libertarian Party member residing in the State of Florida (home of beaches, sunshine, and butterfly ballots),” adding, “I am formerly a candidate here as well, having run for state house in 2008-09.”

The chair candidates will compete for election at the Libertarian Party of Florida’s 2011 State Convention happening the weekend of April 30th in West Palm Beach, Florida. Char-Lez Branden and Adrian Wyllie are from the west coast of Florida, John Wayne Smith is from the Leesburg area and Austin Parris is from the north Palm Beach County area.

A sign banning weapons at Boca Raton’s City Hall is under fire from the county’s Libertarian Party.

The Libertarian Party of Palm Beach County sent a letter Tuesday to city officials stating that the “No weapons allowed” sign at the entrance to City Hall violated state law and asking that it be brought into compliance with the law within 45 days.

“Florida law says citizens with a concealed weapons permit can go into any municipal buildings, as long as the city council is not in session,” said John Thompson, the Libertarian Party of Palm Beach County chairman. “We just don’t want there to be any confusion about the law.”

The County Commission overturned a ban on guns in parks in February because it conflicted with state law.Read more….

…Limbaugh… tweaked establishment Republicans by predicting that disgruntled tea partiers could bolt the GOP to form a third party.

“They know they’re a majority in the country. If they conclude that they have no influence with the current crop of Republicans, they’ll go third party,” Limbaugh opined.

The Florida TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party is a step ahead of the Palm Beach-based conservative. Formed as the first registered political tea party in the country, its slate of state candidates garnered some 300,000 votes last fall.

Naturally, TEA is reviled by rival tea groups and the Republican Party of Florida, which repeatedly and unsuccessfully sued to remove the party’s candidates from the 2010 ballot.

The Miami-Dade Green Party adds its voice to the growing coalition of groups and individuals standing in opposition to anti-immigrant bills that have been recently introduced in the Florida legislature. These bills–modeled after Arizona’s racist SB 1070 law—allow for racial profiling and if passed, will result in the separation of families while threatening to turn Florida into a pariah state.

We enthusiastically endorse the March 17, 2011 Rally in Tallahassee organized by the “We Are Florida!” coalition of community groups to oppose these bills including SB 2040 which is currently before the Florida Senate coming out of the Judiciary Committee. According to the coalition, “This bill forces local police to question the immigration status of any person arrested, even for minor offenses, and turn them over to U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) without ever being convicted of any crime.”

“By deputizing police officers to carry out the functions of ICE, this measure would only serve to undermine public safety by dividing our diverse community and creating an atmosphere of fear. This measure will lead to racial and ethnic profiling on a scale that our state, whose economy depends upon tourism, cannot afford. Racial profiling undermines public safety, instills fear in our communities, scares away tourists, and is simply unjust,” said Muhammed Malik, Co-Chair of the Miami-Dade Green Party.

In fact, it is seldom noted by the corporate media in framing this debate that undocumented immigrants actually add more to the economy through tax revenue and their productive labor. The vast majority come to the U.S. to improve their lives and those of their children after finding their home country economies devastated by anti-worker agreements like NAFTA and other “free trade” pacts which promote a race to the bottom that hurts working people in all countries.

“These racist bills only serve to divide working people when we need unity more than ever given the wave of anti-worker attacks taking place in Wisconsin, Florida and all over the country,” said Paul Lefrak, Co-Chair of the Miami-Dade Green Party. “But just like the working class in Wisconsin and Ohio are beginning to fight back, we need to bring that fight to the Sunshine State and extend it to defend immigrant workers as well.”

Governor Scott and the Florida legislature devise means to slash much-needed social services and attempt to divide and conquer by blaming immigrant workers, while billionaire bankers receive bailouts and tax breaks. The Miami-Dade Green Party stands by the old motto that “an attack on one is an attack on all!” We cannot and will not let racial profiling and scape-goating tactics prevail.

“I was pleased with the tone and subjects covered by the Governor. We strongly support Governor Scott’s efforts to bring the state budget under control and be on the side of the taxpayers of Florida.”

The Libertarian Party of Florida (LPF), the National Motorists Association (NMA) and the Florida Civil Rights Association are jointly participating in a statewide protest this Saturday to raise awareness of the negative effects of red light cameras on driver’s safety and to support State Seantor Rene Garcia’s bill SB672 and the related bill in the Florida House H4087 put forth by Representative Corcoran to repeal red light cameras in the Florida.

Vicki Kirkland, chairwoman of the Libertarian Party of Florida met yesterday in Orlando with leaders of the other two organizations and is encouraging local LPF affiliates to organize at 11AM this Saturday at the location of their choice in this effort to end the insanity of red light cameras.

The Libertarian Party of Palm Beach County (LP Palm Beach) and the Libertarian Party of Florida have both officially come out against the use of red light cameras at intersections for both safety and constitutional reasons. Nonetheless our legislators and our county commissioners have chosen to ignore their warnings and the mountains of data provided to them in their effort to generate revenue. The NMA and LP Palm Beach have been instrumental in Palm Beach County to delay or keep red light cameras out of Delray Beach, Boca Raton and other parts of the county.

As early as this past weekend it was reported how the installation of the cameras have backfired against the legislators and even the most recent Florida study has shown the reasons why the cameras should be removed from intersections and not used in Florida.

It is not widely reported, however several states have banned the cameras either for Constitutional reasons or for safety reasons. And for those states that have not banned them, dozens of counties and municipalities removed the cameras after being installed.

The first red light camera to go online in unincorporated Palm Beach County is at Powerline & Palmetto Park Road in Boca Raton and is already rife with controversy and local residents are appalled Palm Beach County Commissioner Burt Aaronson would spearhead such an effort when it is clear the situation will end up costing Palm Beach County taxpayers and will result in many more accidents.

The Libertarian Party of Florida would like to see its members contact their State Senators and their State Representatives a encourage them to support SB672 / H 4087 and express their displeasure at seeing these cameras spring up at our intersections.

Libertarians Urge Lake Worth to Be “NORML”

Palm Beach Libertarians support the decriminalization of Cannabis

Boca Raton, FL – The Libertarian Party of Palm Beach County (LPPBC) has moved to support the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) in the campaign to decriminalize Cannabis in the City of Lake Worth.  This is an important step in supporting the Libertarian platform plank of ending the regrettable “War on people,” the prohibition of cannabis.

Tuesday night at the regular meeting (7:30PM, 3rd Tuesday of every month) at the West Palm Beach Crowne Plaza, NORML speaker Sabrina Koramblyum presented details of the campaign to decriminalize cannabis in the City of Lake Worth. Included in the proposal is the three-pronged approach of convincing Lake Worth city council members of the life-altering harm done to nonviolent offenders by prosecution, the adversarial relationship it creates between law enforcement and peaceful citizenry, and the burden it places on the judicial system and the taxpayer.  The LPPBC and its coalition partners also seek to educate the city council on the mounting evidence on the medicinal properties of cannabis.  Libertarians encourage Lake Worth City Council to consider the benefits of cannabis decriminalization and its medical use.

Upon passage of the motion to support NORML, Libertarian Party of Palm Beach Chairman John R. Thompson said “Now we have demonstrated our commitment to the people and law enforcement officers of Lake Worth.”

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to you in my capacity as an At-Large Representative of the Libertarian National Committee (LNC), which is in receipt of your resolutions concerning Mr. Root. As you are probably aware, I attempted without success to have the Florida resolution placed on the agenda at the LNC meeting in New Orleans. Shortly thereafter, Idaho passed a virtually identical resolution.

As your At-Large Representative, I feel honor-bound to give you a response in the absence of one from the LNC as a whole. I understand that another state is considering passing a similar resolution, so a response seems necessary and timely.

Several LNC members, including myself, share your concerns. Mr. Root makes it abundantly clear in his 2009 book that he has little respect for liberals and gives the impression that only conservative-leaning individuals are welcome in the Libertarian Party (LP). I have attempted to do some damage control by posting reviews of his book that hopefully will correct that mistaken impression (http://www.amazon.com/review/R3TX5IAH0JSW5A/ref=cm_cr_pr_cmt?ie=UTF8&ASIN=047045265X&nodeID=&tag=&linkCode=#wasThisHelpful).

Upon receiving the Florida resolution our late founder, Mr. David Nolan, put forward a resolution of his own which was passed at our New Orleans meeting. He told me specifically that he hoped that Mr. Root would take the hint and stop discouraging approximately half of the American public from seriously considering the LP.

You might recall that during the last LNC term Mr. Starr initiated proceedings against both Ms. Angela Keaton and Mr. Lee Wrights that were presumably intended to remove them from their At-Large positions. The delegates to the National Convention in St. Louis responded by giving his opponent for Treasurer a landslide victory.

I believe that this incident speaks to your resolution. Although At-Large Members can be removed “for cause,” the delegates frown on such removals without considerable justification. Consequently, even though I and others on the LNC are sympathetic to your concerns, I am unaware of any support, including my own, for removing Mr. Root for the reasons stated in your resolution.

However, if you feel strongly about Mr. Root’s comments, you have several avenues open to you. You can correct Mr. Root’s public statements as I have attempted to do. You can attempt to persuade him to change his behavior as LP founder, the late Mr. David Nolan, has tried to do. In addition, you and any LP members who share your views can attend the next national convention en masse and cast your votes for someone more to your liking. Mr. Starr’s fate has demonstrated that the delegates to a National Convention can effectively prevent the election of anyone who does not meet their expectations.

Our next convention also elects our 2012 presidential nominee; Mr. Root has clearly stated his intentions to run both in his book and on the air (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIeLgzWDekI at about 6:15 minutes). If you would rather not see Mr. Root in another leadership position, you may wish to attend the Las Vegas convention and vote for a candidate who better represents your views.

PALM HARBOR – For decades, the Libertarian Party of Florida has sat on the political sidelines watching the Republicans and Democrats run up the score. But Adrian Wyllie thinks that the LPF has the right philosophy to get in the game, and he has the right plan to level the field.

Wyllie, a Libertarian since 1991, announced his bid for the Chair of the LPF this week. He says that he is building a coalition of highly motivated, effective professionals to lead the party out of obscurity.

“The time is right for the LPF to become a viable force in Florida,” said Wyllie. “The libertarian message has always resonated with voters, but the problem has been the implementation of the party’s goals and a weak public perception. I plan to change that.”

Wyllie, who owns an IT consulting firm and co-hosts a syndicated AM talk radio show, has laid out a three phase plan to advance the LPF. First, he says, that party must get some wins in the public relations battle in order to increase membership and funding. He plans to do that with a combination of a mass media push and by building stronger relationships with other like-minded political groups.

Second, he plans to implement a structure to embrace and coordinate those who, as a result of the LPF’s new visibility, want to be involved. “We will develop a process to handle the influx of people who want to either help financially or volunteer their time,” said Wyllie. “That’s an area where we’ve been deficient in the past, and we can no longer tolerate it.”

Wyllie says the third step is to dramatically increase the number of Libertarian candidates for political office in Florida, and to provide them the financial and structural backing that they need to win in municipal, county and state-wide races.

No stranger to running political campaigns, Wyllie just wrapped up his role as media director for the U.S. Senate campaign of Alex Snitker. The Snitker campaign was widely considered the most visible and effective Libertarian campaign ever run in the State of Florida. Snitker finished fourth behind Rubio, Crist and Meek in a field of 10 candidates, and resulted in a new wave of supporters for the LPF.

While he concedes that it will take many years to achieve equal footing with the Democrats and Republicans, he states that he can educate voters that there is a third political option in Florida. “Our message is simple: Liberty,” said Wyllie, “which is what most Americans are truly yearning for. But we must shout from the rooftops that there is a politically party who sincerely wants to achieve it.”

The Libertarian Party of Florida convention will be held on April 29 through May 1, 2011 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in West Palm Beach, and is open to all registered Libertarians.
