LNC binder and agenda inclusion process

An LNC member who has asked to remain anonymous explains,

There is no “policy” (on what is included in the LNC binder which committee members and interested members of the gallery receive at LNC meetings), or at least not a policy that is followed fairly.

******* sent The Libertarian Temperament versus the Anarchist Temperament by John Hospers to the list and it was included without any request on the part of the LNC member that sent it to the list, yet things that we specifically requested be included were not. Some member comments, etc were specifically declined. The reason stated by Bill Redpath was “No, Robert (Kraus), don’t include that, we all saw it here on the list.”

The policy seems to be, at least on things going into binder and agenda: if the chair likes you, you get agenda and binder space.

Angela Keaton asked for the charges and the evidence against her, and got no answers. Mary Ruwart asked for them, and got no answer as well. Angela submitted agenda items and received no answer. The Mission Statement got on there because Rachel Hawkridge resubmitted it.

On the 3rd, one of our popular At Large Reps said . . .

“Yesterday we were told that we could not add time to certain items on the agenda because the chair considered the agenda to be “full” and therefore no more room was available for time extensions. However, since then the chair has revised the agenda, not once but twice, in order to “add” items and time to the agenda.

Apparently, some of us still have not learned the trick to getting fair and equal consideration from our chair. The only recourse we have now will be to ask the indulgence of this body when it comes time to vote on the agenda.

Libertarian Party of New York chair Eric Sundwall answers Hospers in a post on his blog.

According to Matt Harris, anything placed in the region reports is automatically included in the binder, which is why Hospers essay was in there.

In the next meeting’s binder someone need to place the essay by Hayek that is titled as IRC “Why I am not a Conservative”. That might help some understand the divide between the groups, or what the Libertarian party is all about.

Amending the agenda before formal adoption only requires a simple majority of members present(2/3 to amend after adoption).. However, an individual member could contact any or all the other members prior to the meeting with an amendment proposal in order to gather support prior to the meeting.
