    Gee,you think?

I kid. No I think it had much more to do with Mr. Keyes himself and less to do with anyone else,as usual.

  2. inDglass November 13, 2008

Perhaps Keyes wasn’t in it to win, but just to sabotage Baldwin.

  3. citizen1 November 13, 2008

The Maryland state site does not yet list any votes for any write-in candidate.

    AHAHHAHAHHAHA

You know what’s extremely telling? NOBODY voted for Alan Keyes here in Maryland. What’s so telling about this, you ask? He was a registered write-in, and had a full slate of electors. NONE of his electors voted for him. It gets better, though. Mr. Keyes resides here in Maryland, and didn’t even vote for HIMSELF!

  6. Trent Hill Post author | November 12, 2008

Alan Keyes got a decent amount of votes in California though. Nationally, not including write-ins, he’s recieved over 32,000 votes.

  7. Eternaverse November 12, 2008

All I think Alan Keyes did is make like 3 press releases and go to an event or 2. He could have ran a much better campaign and got the anti-McCain conservative vote. I know he’s trying to build a new party, does anyone know if it has ANY members?

  8. Mike Gillis November 12, 2008

If he’d even tried just a LITTLE, he could have gotten on many of those ballots, like WA, IA, UT, MS, LA, NJ, RI and several others that require fewer than 1,500 sigs a piece.

  9. Eternaverse November 12, 2008

I just went to Alan Keyes website and it seems that he’ll be a write-in candidate in Alabama, Alaska, D.C., Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. So he might get some more votes, though not alot because I don’t think he even campaigned this year.

No, he was not a registered write-in candidate.

  11. Mike Gillis November 12, 2008

Barr didn’t get any write-ins from CT?

  12. Mike Gillis November 12, 2008

All NH votes from balloted candidates:

    Barack Obama: 384,391 votes
    John McCain: 316,397 votes
    Ralph Nader: 3,429 votes
    Bob Barr: 2,173 votes
    George Phillies: 518 votes

    write-ins below:

    Hillary Clinton – 1124 votes
    Ron Paul – 1092 votes
    Chuck Baldwin – 226 votes
    Mitt Romney – 112 votes
    Mike Huckabee – 61 votes
    Cynthia McKinney – 41 votes
    Sarah Palin – 18 votes
    Bill Clinton – 13 votes

    Connecticut has counted write-ins also.

    Baldwin 287
    McKinney 53
    Calero 40
    Moore 18

Baldwin got more than 2.5x the other register write-ins and more about 20% of what Peroutka got in 2004 as a ballot listed candidate.

Because, Sir Phillies acted like he was going to whip Barr’s arse.

    Where did he say that?

Claimed he visited NH hundreds of times.

He probably has. It’s quite close; no need to pack an overnight bag.

Claimed he had the support of the entire NHLP.

Has he made that claim? Where?

He did say he won a vote of the NH LP.

It’s a pretty small group, smaller than his vote total, even if they all supported him.

  15. Ross Levin November 12, 2008

So maybe the whole NHLP did vote for him. They don’t account for every libertarian-leaning vote.

Why are you so eager to see Barr beat other candidates?

  16. libertyuk2000 November 12, 2008

Why would this be at all surprising?

Because, Sir Phillies acted like he was going to whip Barr’s arse. Claimed he visited NH hundreds of times. Claimed he had the support of the entire NHLP.

Also — any truth to the rumor that Phillies has quit as chair of the MALP and joined the BTP or started his own party?

    libertyuk,

Had Paul been on the ballot,he would have easily out-performed Barr,as he did in Montana.

  18. paulie cannoli November 12, 2008

Yes, write-ins don’t get as many votes as people who are listed on the ballot, while Phillies had no national media and did not have the support of the national party. Why would this be at all surprising?

  19. libertyuk2000 November 12, 2008

Interesting indeed so let us review

    Barr 2217

    Phillies 531 +
    Paul 1092 +
    Baldwin 226 +
    = 1849

Thus Barr did better than the other three “Liberty” candidates combined.

    Hmm,

This despite Paul saying to vote for Baldwin
and Phillies campaigning for two years?

  20. millerpolitics November 12, 2008

I doubt we really ever know how many write ins Hillary or any one else got nationally because they probably won’t be counted in most states, I know that’s how it is here in Illinois.

  21. johncjackson November 12, 2008

I can’t see “PUMA” without picturing the fake semen dripping magazine ad.

  22. Catholic Trotskyist November 12, 2008

Yes, I agree with Mike, surprisingly. It will be interesting to see how many votes Hillary got nationally, and whether or not she beat Ron Paul. Hopefully she did not, although I forgive her now for not supporting Obama in the beginning. The votes for Huckabee, Romney, and Palin! and Bill Clinton were surprising.

How many votes did Nader and Barr get in New Hampshire? It would be interesting to see if Hillary and Paul beat them. I do remember that they beat Phillies, who got something like 500. But New Hampshire was a good state for Hillary and Paul, so I don’t know if they got so many write-in votes elsewhere, especially since they have the most liberal laws on counting write-ins.

  23. Trent Hill Post author | November 12, 2008

    Ah. Interesting.

  24. Eternaverse November 12, 2008

New Hampshire only makes up .44% of the United State’s population. This means if the rest of the nation voted like New Hampshire then Clinton got more then 20,00o votes across the country.

  25. Trent Hill Post author | November 12, 2008

    PUMA?

I’d bet Clinton gets maybe 10,000 write-ins nationally.

I’d bet Paul gets 25,000. But most of them wont be counted. But California and NH will…we’ll see.

  26. Mike Gillis November 12, 2008

It’ll be really interesting to see how many write-ins Hillary Clinton gets nationally.

That “PUMA” movement got quiet once the general election truly kicked in. It’ll be interesting to see how many stuck to their guns.
