One meme, one vote…

Stolen/borrowed from Serenade in Green (svf):

A meme that just popped into my head. List your Presidential votes, or non-votes, the candidate’s party, explain why you voted that way in no more than four words, and list the guy who eventually won.

Paulie, yes in 1996; I wrote-in Buchanan; I couldn’t get behind Dole and had lost the desire to vote for Perot.

I would’ve voted for Perot in 1992 if I was old enough

  8. G.E. November 4, 2008

The only thing that I’ve changed my mind about is the Libertarian Party. It is worthless. So I don’t care about its future.

I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as late figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. The sky receded like a scroll, rolling up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place… When he opened the seventh seal…

    G.E. // Nov 3, 2008 at 9:24 pm
… I will be voting tomorrow… for Bob Barr.

  13. paulie cannoli Post author | November 4, 2008

Wow, both G.E. and I have come around to Barr.

I’ll make a prediction. You’ll probably both regret it.

    Primaries:

    Gary Hart ’88
    Jerry Brown ’92
    (worked on those two)

    Alan Keyes ’96
(Democrats had no challenger; I voted in a June primary, and most Republicans had bowed out,
and I liked Keyes standing up to his party for locking him out of the debate – Atlanta, I think)

after this point, no primaries, rather, LP conventions.

2000 – Browne; Kubby for VP
2004 – Russo; Millay for VP
2008 – Kubby, then Ruwart; Kubby for VP

  15. songster7 November 4, 2008

postscript – The last two Pres primaries here in Tenn, I have had the pleasure of voting for Kucinich (2004) and Paul (2008). I don’t recall voting in any primaries prior to that, since there were no candidates I could support, even in that limited way

  16. songster7 November 4, 2008

    oh, goodie …

1980 – Ed Clark – proudly (worked for campaign) – ReaganI
1984 – David Bergland – reluctantly but legit LP – ReaganII
1988 – Ron Paul – LP nominee – Bush pere
    1992 – Andre Marrou – LP nominee – ClintonI
1996 – Harry Browne – with enthusiasm (or delusion?) – ClintonII
2000 – H. Browne – LP nominee (I had nominated NOTA, when El Neil chose not to run) – ShrubI
    2004 – Michael Badnarik – proudly – ShrubII
    2008 – Charles Jay, BTP – proudly – Obama?

  26. Cortney November 3, 2008

This is the 1st time I get to vote in a presidential election

*2008 Barr/He is the LP candidate… I might regret my decison in 20 years but at least I am not a sheep and only voting for the lesser of 2 evils e.g. McCain and Obama… who i disagree with completely.

  27. Ross Levin November 3, 2008

That must feel amazing to vote for Dennis.

  28. PJWerner November 3, 2008

    2004-Kerry (Democrat)–Swing-state cowardice– W Bush.
    2008-Nader (Independent)–Universal Health Care– ???

Note: No one I have ever voted for, other than judges, has won. Thankfully, this year, that ought to change as I will be voting for Dennis Kucinich, who is heavily favored here.

*Got robbed may be too strong a term, since they laid back and enjoyed it.

  30. G.E. November 3, 2008

I’m too much of a pussy not to vote, so I will be voting tomorrow… for Bob Barr.

My reasons for not voting for Barr were that he was a scoundrel who was taking the LP in the wrong direction. On the issues, he was always clearly the best (though still pathetic and far too statist). But now I don’t give a shit about the LP, so I’ll vote for him as the lesser of six evils.

I voted for Clinton, Gore, and Nader in the past. I was a moron.

  31. paulie cannoli Post author | November 3, 2008

    My replies:

    – 1988 Dukakis [Democrat] / I was a Democrat / Bush I
    – 1992 Marrou [Libertarian] / No More Drug War / Clinton
    – 1996 Browne [Libertarian] / drank LP Kool-Aid / Clinton
    – 2000 Nobody / No Address for Absentee / Gore*
    – 2004 Nobody / Did not care much / Kerry*
    – 2008 Nobody / Not letting me vote / Obama**

*Got robbed, not that it would have mattered.

**Technically, not yet. But the Republicans have not legitimately won in 20 years, and this time it ain’t gonna be close.
