Green Party candidate running for Senate against Democrat without Republican opposition

A worthwhile story to bring to the attention of our readers is that of Rebekah Kennedy, the Green party candidate for Senate in Arkansas. She is running against an incumbent Democrat with no other opposition, not even from the Republicans.

Kennedy has previously run for Attorney General. She received more than 4% in that race. In her current race, Kennedy has only raised a fraction of the money that the Democrat has, but she is currently asking for donations. This election has the potential to be very good for the Green party – even if Kennedy does not win, it raises awareness of their party.

Apparently, the Democrat is pretty conservative as Democrats go, so she might get a good chunk of the vote. I’m not sure what the party status laws in AK are, so I wonder if this could help the GP there gain minor party or even major party status. I don’t want to get ahead of myself, though.

    Richard Winger, are you there?

Perfect! Progressives won’t be afraid to vote for her at the expense of the Democrat losing to some neocon or theocrat Republican. Conservatives might vote for her just because she’s not the Democrat. That depends on how entrenched the Democrat is though. We had a Libertarian run alone against Republican Senator Richard Lugar in Indiana and only get 12% of the vote (it’s possible we could blame straight-ticket voting that though).

Damn, these are good opportunities. Just those two names on the ballot and all.
