IPR just received a tip from an officer in the Alaskan Independence Party that their gubernatorial nominee, Don Wright, is dropping out and will be replaced. Wright was the gubernatorial nominee of the party in ’78, ’02, and ’06. He is also the former President of the Alaskan Federation of Natives.
The tip pointed out that the Executive Committee of the AIP will hold an emergency session this Friday to determine the replacements for Governor and Lt. Governor. This meeting is similar to the widely-reported meeting that was held recently by the Libertarian Party of Alaska Executive Committee in order to determine whether they wanted to place endangered Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski on their ballot.
The tip further suggested that a prominent candidate has already approached the AIP in hopes of being the gubernatorial candidate. Rumors from elsewhere have suggested that perhaps Lisa Murkowski is switching races and hoping to get an open ballot line. Several members of the party who spoke to IPR today suggested that Murkowski is not a good fit and wouldn’t get the nod from the AIP ExComm.

The Alaska INDEPENCE Party delegation supported anti-secession Alan Keyes in ’08. That made a lot of sense. Support a candidate who would send in the troops to suppress you if you actually tried to carry through on the goal plainly stated in your name?

Now that new information you are reporting in the comments, is entirely plausible – Walker for Gov. on AIP ticket. We here in Anchorage have been hearing that same rumor for days now.
But Murkowski for Gov? That’s insane. Whoever told you that has no idea what they’re talking of.

I agree with you, Red. She is a real piece of crap who should be shunned by ALL parties.
As a matter of general course, I think these types of “sore loser” candidates should be avoided unless there were some clear shenanigans or manipulation on the part of the major party that could be exploited.
This would be a good topic for discussion. What do others think? It feels low class and desperate on the part of the “sore loser,” and it reinforces the image of third parties sitting around waiting for scraps from the major parties’ table.

I guess the point is moot now given the post above, but any opportunity for gratuitous Keyes bashing should be seized upon based on general principles.

Don’t need to re-check my story. The facts of my article are that Don Wright is dropping out and will be replaced and that there will be a meeting of the ExComm friday to determine the AIP’s nominee–and that the party has been approached by a prominent candidate. Those are all facts as of now.
The conjecture, which is reported as such, is the rumor that Murkowski might be the prominent candidate. That comes from a highly placed political source in AK. I stated that it was a rumor and even contrasted it with the views of multiple AIP members who said it was both unlikely and unwanted. Please do tell me where my facts are wrong, Eric.

Oh by the way, Lisa Murkowski has not been on the Central Committee of the Catholic Trotskyist Party since April 21, 4444 BC. She has never served as Chairwoman of the Catholic Trotskyist Party of America, nor as vice-chairman. At a central committee meeting on August 4, 3333 BC, Lisa Murkowski was forever banned from serving in any office on any planetary, federal, state, county or community level of the Catholic Trotskyist Party.
If the Constitution Party rejected Alan Keyes, they would definitely reject Lisa Murkowski, who is pro-choice I think. Yes I know the AKIP isn’t technically the Constitution Party, but they have strong connections so Im sure they would have something to say about it.
If this person is so toxic why would anyone want to nominate her for anything? She seems to be very out of step with Alaska in general.
If she can’t convince a single member of the Libertarian committee to help her keep her OLD job, why would the AIP, who shares even FEWER of her views, help her get a NEW one?

Miller is in the Senate race and is the Republican nominee. Murkowski conceded that primary/race.
