Kevin Barrett and Ben Olson, both running to represent the Libertarian Party in the Wisconson 3rd District Congressional race, have agreed to a debate. And it’s on a boat! According to a press release, this is believed to be the first Libertarian Congressional debate. The focus of the debate will be Barrett’s support of social security and universal healthcare.
The event will be held on Captain Soma’s boat “Cheers” on the upper Dells of the Wisconsin River on Sunday, August 24th. The free cruise will leave dock at 6:30pm and return at 8:30pm. For more info or reservations, call 608-254-2628.

This will be the greatest American debate since Helvidius debated Pacifus in 1793!
I was thinking “Youth Correspondent”, but either one is fine with me!
Only Libertarians can debate on a boat!
By the way, IPR’s newest correspondent, Ross Levin, is off to a fabulous start.
Can we list you on the About Us page as our “cub reporter,” Ross?
No. Barrett was the first candidate in the race and he apparently is not very libertarian. So Olson jumped into the race to challenge him.
Only one can run for WI’s 3rd Congressional district, so they’re debating in anticipation of a primary, which will decide which can run under the Libertarian banner for the office in question.
I haven’t researched Barrett so I don’t know his positions well, but I can say with certainty that his candidacy is controversial.
Let me get this straight. They’re having a debate about whether supporting social security and universal healthcare are libertarian positions?
What is the world coming to?
Go Olson!
