From the Socialist Party USA website:
Folks from the Socialist Party L.A. and Ventura Locals joined today’s Death by Cop march in L.A. 617 coffins for 617 killed by LA law enforcement since 2000.
Participants convened on the L.A. County Board of Supervisors from the north, south, east, and west, staging die-ins along the way. #DEATHBYCOP

Exactly!
I agree with NF. There’s nothing wrong with libertarians forming coalitions with non-libertarians, as long as they are working toward libertarian ends. In general, when it comes to working with non-libertarians, I would say the proper attitude is, “Cooperation is good; compromise is bad.”
If government quit meddling with the economy and hobbling it with red tape, wages and living standards would rise far more quickly than under a mixed economy or misnamed state “socialist” system. But there are still many other issues, including this one, where we can and should work with self-proclaimed socialists.
” Is it confusing for the public to see groups like Libertarians and Socialists together?”
Not unless it is at a “living wage” rally or something similar.
Good idea to ignore those people.
Suddenly, “coalition” is being treated as a bad word by some in the CA LP, even though one of our bylaws instructs us to build coalitions. I’ll just ignore the people trying to stop usw from doing that.
We should mix it up. I go to everything from socialist events to tea party conservative events all the time, highlight issues where we agree, and let them know libertarians agree with them on those issues. Or as Nick puts it…
http://libertypoint.org/?p=4843 Show Up. Be Nice. Win!
Equally true for non-candidates!
I sure wish this hadn’t happened on a weekday. This is something I would have like to attend.
We’re having an FB discussion on whether Libertarians should attend events such as this that includes Socialists. I think that meeting with people who agree on an important issue like this is good. Coalition-builing is an important part of the political process. What do others think? Is it confusing for the public to see groups like Libertarians and Socialists together?
