California List of Declared Write-ins for Federal and State Office Now Available

From Ballot Access News:

The California Secretary of State has posted the list of declared write-in candidates for the June 3, 2014 primary, for Congress and partisan state office.

There are 21 such races in which only one person filed to be on the June ballot. Among those 21 races, a write-in candidate, or several, filed in all but four of those races. Obviously, in these races, if just one write-in candidate filed, that person will place second and will appear on the November ballot, assuming that write-in candidate gets at least one write-in. It is now possible to know that in three races, there will be a minor party member on the November ballot.

The only write-in candidate in U.S. House district 44 is Peace & Freedom Party member Adam Shbeita, who has an Orange County postal mailing address. He will oppose Democratic incumbent Janice Hahn in November. The district is in southwestern Los Angeles County.

The only write-in candidate for Assembly, district 5, is Libertarian Patrick D. Hogan of Madera County. He will run against Republican incumbent Frank Bigelow.

The only write-in candidate for Assembly, district 79, is American Independent Party member George R. Williams of San Diego County. He will run against Democratic incumbent Shirley Weber.

The races that will have only one name on the November ballot, with no write-in space, are Assembly districts 23, 58, 59, and 80. No write-ins filed in those districts, even though if anyone had filed, that person would have been guaranteed a spot on the November ballot.

Without write-in votes, Holden will run unopposed

When local voters go to the polls on June 3, they will see that Assemblyman Chris Holden, D-Pasadena, is unopposed in the 41st Assembly District race. No incumbent should run unopposed, so Ted Brown is running as a write-in candidate to provide an alternative. If voters write in Ted Brown’s name on June 3 (or on an absentee ballot), he will be able to appear on the November general election ballot as Holden’s only opponent.

The district includes Pasadena, Altadena, South Pasadena, Sierra Madre, Monrovia, San Dimas, La Verne and Claremont. Brown is running on a platform of limited government that favors personal freedoms and economic freedoms. Oppressive state government is sapping small business owners like he and other workers with taxes to pay for wasteful boondoggles like the bullet train and to fund excessive government salaries and pensions.

Brown opposes “nanny state” regulations such as banning e-cigarettes and forcing sushi chefs to wear gloves. Let’s stop harassing businesses like Irwindale’s Sriracha hot-sauce factory and the movie production business so they won’t flee to more business-friendly states. Brown strongly supports the entire Bill of Rights, including the right to keep and bear arms for self-defense.

If you are a voter in state Assembly District 41, please write in Ted Brown’s name for that office in the primary election. Otherwise, Chris Holden may have a free ride to re-election.

Scan the copy and post it as an image if you don’t have the text?

I’m pleased that we’ll have a few people to write-in, but I certainly wish it was more. That reminds me that Ted Brown and I wrote a letterto the editor that was published in the Star-news this week. I only saw a published copy, but I’ll see if I can find a copy of it to print here.

    Good idea!

I wrote in Patrick D. Hogan for 5th district member of state assembly. That way at least we have a Libertarian on the November ballot in my district!
