I’m more or less crashing out from everything in-person, so my activity was limited to passing on a few things on FB. I think I have the winter solstice blues again this year. Even dragging myself to my sister’s for Christmas Eve (her husband is Christian) is feeling like a chore, even though I want to see them. I’m mostly feeling like laying around, not talking to anyone except on the internet, and drinking by myself. Not the healthiest thing in the world but that’s all I even feel like doing now.”

Starchild said: “By the way, this is off topic, but did anyone else do any End the Fed stuff today? Today was the 100th anniversary of the passing of the Federal Reserve Act, creating the U.S. government’s quasi-private central bank that is still undermining the health of the economy a century later.”
I had an idea over year ago for the Libertarian Party to organize a national day of protest against the Federal Reserve System, and for it to be held on the 100th anniversary of the passage of the Federal Reserve Act. This had the potential to gain a lot of publicity for the Libertarian Party, and I think that it could have also brought in a lot of new members and increased donations to the party.
I obviously failed in promoting this idea, though it would have been nice if other Libertarians could have picked up this idea and ran with it.
“We had a protest outside the Fed branch here in San Francisco with some local libertarians and some Occupy folks and a scattering of others — probably around 50 people. Myself and John Dennis (libertarian Republican who ran against Nancy Pelosi) were among the speakers”
I’m really glad to read that you were there, Starchild. Hopefully, you used the opportunity to plug the Libertarian Party. I also hope that you were not the only Libertarian Party member at the End the Fed protests that were held around the country that day.
I unfortunately was unable to attend any of the End the Fed protests that day myself. I’ve been pre-occupied with work and am currently not in a location that was close to where any of these protests were being held. If I had been closer to where one was being held, I’d have been there.
So…strangely enough..I agree with all of the coments since my last one.

Very well said. It would have saved the LP some embarrassment if Judge Gray had written an article that said something like that, instead of fawning over the cops like a drunken groupie backstage at a rock concert.

Great work Jason. You are doing something very productive for the Libertarian Party and the people in your community.
I like the sentiment there Starchild. However, the reality is that democracy, as practiced pretty much everywhere, that I know of, *is* a system in which individuals are disempowered and have little to say.
As for dirty laundry, publicly airing it often seems to be a necessary first step to getting it cleaned — otherwise it has a tendency to get shoved out of sight where it’s allowed to molder and fester.
I don’t think I would trust a political party whose members didn’t engage in passionate ongoing debate over the details of its ideology, operations, priorities, etc. Democracy is famously messy, but it beats having a system in which individuals are disempowered and have little say.
I concur with others, great letter Jason, and good to hear the Nevada LP is organizing this event!

Jason, when you guys have the sheriff candidate’s forum, one suggestion is to ask them about Oathkeepers (http://oathkeepers.org/oath/), maybe have some materials on hand from the organization and try to get them to join. Seems like as good a litmus test for someone seeking that office as any other single thing I can think of.
Everyone has their own preferences, which is why we do different kinds of articles. Personally I’d find an all good news IPR to be rather boring, and my hunch is that it would be less well read, so the good news would not even reach as many people as it does now when it has some of the bad news along with it.

True enough, but I’m more interested in the 2 or 3 comments about good work a candidate or party is doing than 127 comments about internal bickering & expense reports in the Libertarian Party. *yawn*
In one sense true. In another, dirty laundry makes for many IPR comments.

“ideas, rather than party infighting” Should be the mantra of ALL minor parties. Dirty laundry belongs in the hamper, bold ideas & visions should be shared with the world.
by the end of January, we will have two affiliates (Clark County Jan 25th, Nye Jan 31). Thank you Jill, after our convention Feb 8th, the debate of sheriff candidates should be exciting. We have three candidates confirmed, two more have yet to respond. Nothing like media coverage of Libertarians asking Sheriffs their stance on the oath of office and constitution…especially since we just passed a resolution refusing local LEO support for federal NDAA detention operations. Turns out…there is a lot of support for Liberty in Nevada…we just had to reach out and get involved. who knew? 🙂
I agree. Also very nice to have news from LPNV about activism for liberty and engaging the wider world of real world politics with libertarian ideas, rather than party infighting as with the previous officers there.

This is an excellent letter, Jason!
This is exactly what we should all be doing in our communties. This is how the public will finally learn what we Libertarians stand for.
Merry Christmas Paulie,
Happy Kwaanza and a merry winter solstice AR!
and take care of yourself.
These days, I usually do, since it’s too much of a hassle and/or too expensive to find someone else to do it for me 🙂
Makes me think of this song…

CP drama is usually even more interesting than LP drama. But maybe that’s because I’m a Christian and enjoy people throwing God in each other’s faces.

But that’s just me.
To each their own, but I’ve always found comments to be the life’s blood of IPR.
Which is why I don’t worry about how many comments my submissions get.
In one sense true. In another, dirty laundry makes for many IPR comments.
