Tom Hoefling announces 2014 Republican bid for Iowa Governor
Tom Hoefling of Lohrville today announced his intention to enter the 2014 Republican primary race against incumbent Governor Terry Branstad.
Hoefling, the long-time conservative activist and organizer, enters the campaign as an anti-establishment outsider, having spent the last six years outside the GOP as a registered independent, and as the founder and chairman of the national America’s Party.
On the campaign’s newly-renovated website (tomhoefling.com), he says: “The Branstad era in Iowa is coming to an end soon. There is little doubt about that. The only real question is where we will choose to go from there. Will our longest-serving Governor be followed by a decade or more of liberal Democrat rule like the last time he left the executive office? Or, will he succeed at replacing himself with someone who represents the Republican status quo? I don’t think either outcome is acceptable. I believe the people of Iowa deserve a principled, practical alternative.”
Since the announcement Hoefling has created a campaign “fan page” which can be found here.

Ben Dover says he did.
Not sure, I know Mike Hunt used to pal around with Harry Johnson.
Could they be the same person? Has anyone ever seen them in the same room together?
BREAKING NEWZ! HE’S BEEN ENDORSED BY A CLASSIC PRANK CALL! “Mike Hunt endorses Tom Hoefling for Governor” http://www.tomhoefling.com/10/post/2013/12/mike-hunt-endorses-tom-hoefling-for-governor.html
But the real question is, has anybody seen Mike Hunt?
LOL. Good one! 🙂
Tom Hoefling is an illegal immigrant to the Republican Party.
Paul, or Paulie
I guess you missed the smiley? It was a dig at his border fascism. Also, to some extent, at his homophobia – another meaning of “fence jumper” is bisexual.
Oops, spring of 2001.
You’d think he could at least get a decent photo. He’s been using that same cocked-head low rez shot for the past dozen years now. I should know. He was Jay Wolfe’s campaign manager for West Virginia U.S. Senate in 2002 and I got involved helping that campaign in spring of 2011.
Regardless, he is not going to win the primary.
In fact the GOP is no longer reaching out to the Tea Party folks anymore, except in the deep red states.
Yet the RINOs are on a serious rebound after the recent elections in Virginia and New Jersey.
Pauli and others:
If he is a fence jumper so is Ron Paul, Wayne Root, Bob Barr. . .
“Are the ballot access laws so difficult in Iowa that he couldn’t have gotten on the ballot as the candidate of America’s Party? ”
No. Must be another reason. 1,500 valid signatures and they have to be collected in at least 10 counties. I’m collecting them with my campaign and don’t anticipate any issue getting them.
Yep, that about sums it up…

“Isn’t it time to have people of integrity, character and principle in leadership positions in government? Don’t we want people who will adhere to the oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution? People who believe in the sanctity of life from conception to natural death? People who will remind us that our rights come from our creator God and are unalienable? If your answer is yes to all of the questions above then you know why Tom Hoefling has my undying support for Governor of the great state of Iowa. He is a man who will put what is right before what is expedient. Tom Hoefling is the right man for the job. Character counts!!! Tom Hoefling for Governor!”
Hi Tom!
Just another Alan Keyes clone self-absorbed political opportunist.
Isn’t it time to have people of integrity, character and principle in leadership positions in government? Don’t we want people who will adhere to the oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution? People who believe in the sanctity of life from conception to natural death? People who will remind us that our rights come from our creator God and are unalienable? If your answer is yes to all of the questions above then you know why Tom Hoefling has my undying support for Governor of the great state of Iowa. He is a man who will put what is right before what is expedient. Tom Hoefling is the right man for the job. Character counts!!! Tom Hoefling for Governor!
Dunno, but if he hasn’t, it’s probably only a matter of time.
Has he done that since ’08?
In other news, Keyes will once again be approaching any one of several parties in one state or another to run him for something…
HAAHAHAHAHAHAHA
That too.
More like someone who just wants to see his name on the ballot while putting in the absolute bare minimum of effort.
So he’s a fence jumper? 🙂
Except Hoefling hasn’t “come back” to the Republican Party. He’s still affiliated with & is the chairman of America’s Party. The Party’s official Facebook & Twitter are promoting his candidacy.
Makes sense to me. The GOP has made serious efforts to bring right-wingers back to the party. The right is coming home.
Disappointing.
I have the same questions. As outspoken as he’s been against the GOP on his personal Facebook account it is curious that he would run Republican. It is particularly odd considering he is the Chairman of a party of his own creating who’s ticket he just ran for president on. I don’t understand it.
Are the ballot access laws so difficult in Iowa that he couldn’t have gotten on the ballot as the candidate of America’s Party? Is this a way to skirt his party’s policy of not accepting any campaign contributions?
