Anyone who’s ever run for elective office before knows that America’s electoral system is riddled with booby traps, landmines and incomprehensible rules seemingly put in place to prohibit regular Americans from ever running. And while most honest and sincere candidates are thrown off the ballot or never get that far to begin with, one Libertarian NY State Senate candidate is paving the way for the rest.

Gigi Bowman for NY State Senate

That Libertarian candidate is Gigi Bowman from Long Island. A long-time Libertarian Party activist, Bowman’s political experience is like that of many Americans, as a volunteer, not a candidate. But now, she’s not only making her first run for elective office, she’s creating a video documentary detailing her experience – mistakes, revelations, corruption and all.

“Running for office – day one,” Gigi Bowman’s first video installment begins, “Actually, I’ve already started to figure out how to do this. I have no idea what I’m doing. I’m not a politician. I’m not a Treasurer. I’m a real estate agent. But I felt compelled enough to run for office.”

Gigi Bowman campaign video Episode 1.Bowman’s fears and hesitations are all too common. Most Americans who try to run for political office are frightened off and intimidated into giving up on that noble civic duty before they even start. And too many of those that do make the difficult, expensive and heart-wrenching plunge as a candidate will never see their name on the ballot due to the obstacles and traps that establishment government officials have put in place to limit any opposition to their perpetual rule.

The New York Libertarian is no stranger to taking on the powerful two-party establishment. Aside from being a working wife and mother, Gigi Bowman is also the Vice Chair of the Suffolk County Libertarian Party, as well as the owner and administrator of the website LibertyCandidates.com. As if that weren’t enough, she also launched the organization Save Long Island and is the New York State Caucus Leader for the voter advocacy group Free & Equal Elections
