Since contact.ipr email no longer works for sending us news tips, I’m going to try a new experiment this month. We usually do an open thread every month with comments that can include news tips and pretty much anything else. This month, I want to separate that out and put up two different threads.
In this thread, please post only news tips, IE links to articles you would like to see posted here, your own articles you are submitting for publication having to do with alternative party or independent candidate politics in some identifiable or identified way, or news that could be made into an article.
In the other thread which I’ll be putting up shortly, please post all the other stuff – site policy discussions, reposts of random stuff, etc., – that usually goes into random threads.
Depending on whether this experiment works or how well it works, I’ll see whether we want to continue it in upcoming months or go back to having just one monthly open thread for everything.

Not sure if this is news or not but the Libertarian Party of Louisiana is hearing up for 2013 elections. We have over 100+ offices up for election in April, mostly small town offices.

Liberty for America has called for impeaching the LNC Secretary for cause.
Readable now on ThirdPartyReport.com and the Radicals Facebook group
THE PROBLEM:
LNC Paralyzed!
Secretary Blocks All Business!
Since early December, our Libertarian National Committee has been totally paralyzed, unable to transact business or vote on motions because the National Secretary has been inactive.
THE SOLUTION (from the forthcoming January 2013 Liberty for America)
—Editorial—
It’s Time for Impeachment
Since 2000. this newspaper and its predecessor, Let Freedom Ring!, have covered Libertarian National Committee activities in great detail. Indeed, we have given the LNC more extensive investigatory coverage than has any other news source.
The current situation on the National Committee is utterly unacceptable. Motions cannot be brought to a vote. Motions that may have passed cannot be acted upon, because the official results are unknown. Meeting Minutes reach draft format, but are perpetually in need of correction. When vote totals are reported, they are frequently found to be incorrect.
You can’t run a serious political party this way. Party members should demand immediate change. To contact the LNC: http://www.lp.org/lnc-leadership for email addresses.
There is only one solution. National Secretary Ruth Bennett must forthwith for cause be impeached (“suspended” is the term of art in the Party Bylaws) and removed from office. The cause, of course, is failure to discharge the duties of the office. The process is complex. First the LNC must vote to suspend. Then the vote must survive the suspended officer’s appeal to the Judicial Committee.
Fortunately, the National Party has at hand an excellent replacement. Chuck Moulton is an attorney and former Vice Chair. He is willing to serve.
Former National Convention delegates may recall charts and graphs of LNC votes — those were Chuck’s work. Moulton delivers. Those, by the way, were the charts and graphs that Bennett had removed from delegate tables at the 2012 NatCon before they could be read. Readers may also recall that Bennett nominated M Carling for Judicial Committee and gave the 2012 NatCon its floor fees.

Thanks for the tip, George!
I hope someone puts it up as an article. I hesitate to do it myself because I’m currently on the LNC.

It’s a shame that New Hampshire does not have a citizens initiative, referendum. and recall process. If it did, I would suggest launching a petition to recall Cynthia Chase from office.
I think that New Hampshire does have an initiative process in a few of its cities (like Manchester which is the largest city in the state), but they do not have the process at the statewide level.
Lack of a statewide initiative, referendum, and recall process is one of the reasons why I was disappointed when New Hampshire was chosen as the target state for the Free State Project, and it is also one of the reasons that I have not gotten involved with the Free State Project. If the Free State Project had selected a state with an initiative, referendum, and recall process it could be a hotbed for pro-liberty petitions.
The only things you can do in New Hampshire are run for office, lobby government officials, or engage in non-political activism like protesting, jury nullification, etc… I’m all in favor of pro-liberty people running for office, lobbying elected officials, and engaging in non-political activism like protesting, jury nullification, or whatever else, but not having an initiative, referendum, and recall process means that you are missing a very big tool in your tool box (so to speak).
12 Richard Winger // Jan 9, 2013 at 12:02 am
Maybe the New Hampshire Free State People could organize a campaign to defeat every New Hampshire legislator who won’t promise to support a constitutional amendment to establish the initiative process. Or run against anti-initiative legislators in their own party’s primary in 2014. Massachusetts and Maine, New Hampshire’s only two neighbors, both have the initiative process, and that ought to be a good selling point to the NH public.
13 Richard Winger // Jan 9, 2013 at 12:03 am
Oops, I forgot Vermont is also a neighbor state.

Yeah, they could do all of this, but it would have been a heck of a lot easier if they had picked a state that already had an initiative, referendum, and recall process.
I think the fact that New Hampshire does not have a statewide initiative, referendum, and recall process is a real weakness in the Free State Project. There are pro-liberty organizations around the country that look for people in states that do have this process so they can run pro-liberty petitions in those states. Just imagine if New Hampshire had this process, Free State Project supports could run initiatives to legalize marijuana, require judges to inform jurors about jury nullification, put spending limits on state government, etc… I think that if there was a process like this in New Hampshire and Free State Project members had been running pro-liberty petitions since New Hampshire became the target state, that the Free State Project would be more successful right now, and that more people would have moved to New Hampshire to take part in the Free State Project.

LIBERTARIANISM GOES MAINSTREAM?
Here’s a story that should bring orgasms to those who belong to the Boortzed big-tent cult of Rootists and/or the Netanyahu-Libertarians faction:
Glenn Beck Relaunching The Blaze As Global Libertarian News Network
http://www.buzzfeed.com/mckaycoppins/glenn-beck-relaunching-the-blaze-as-global-liberta
Maybe this would be a good time for libertarians and Libertarians to rethink about who they associate with, or start calling themselves something else.
I think I’ll just drop all attempts at appearing to be acceptable to statists. No more “libertarian”, “anarcho-libertarian”, “left-libertarian”. Anarcho-Capitalist – don’t even go there.
From now on, I’m a radical absolutist anarchist with no hyphens. No apologies. Offended? So what? Join the club!
Don’t like it? Take it and your beloved government and shove it up your statist ass.
Ten years from now, your moderate statist-lite politics and $15 will buy you a cup of coffee from Starbucks.
Go tune in to Glenn Beck now and listen to him say the word “libertarian” over and over and over. Feel free to masturbate as he talks – it may end up being the last freedom you will enjoy in America.
Maybe the LP can recruit Allen West in 2016 with Glenn Beck’s backing. Maybe Wayne Root will even come back and run as VP.

15 tb, thanks for bringing this nugget to our attention. I can’t say I’d view Beck as “mainstream.”
You might consider suing him to usurping and fraudulently employing the “libertarian” label to describe his political views.
21 Tom Blanton // Jan 9, 2013 at 7:11 pm
You might consider suing him to usurping and fraudulently employing the “libertarian” label to describe his political views.
But, thanks to people like Beck, Boortz, Root, the Koch boys, and the foolish supporters of these hacks, Beck’s views are probably more properly described as “libertarian” than the views of people like David Nolan or Harry Browne in this new era of neolibertarianism.
Per AP in June 2012:
Conservative talk show host Glenn Beck has signed a five-year, $100 million contract to continue his morning radio show with syndicator Premiere Networks.
That’s pretty damn mainstream for a self-described rodeo clown. There are many variants of “mainstream”, for example Lady Gaga and Toby Keith are both mainstream.
Capozzi, we might even agree that Beck is more mainstream than Wayne Root. In the world of fat white guys that advocate wars on the radio, the alcoholic Beck comes in third after pill head Rush Limbaugh and his chief imitator, Sean Hannity. Not bad in a field of many propagandists.
When Beck starts calling himself an anarchist, maybe I’ll consider suing him – for the intentional infliction of emotional distress.

I’d certainly like to see a balanced outreach/recruitment effort where the Libertarian Party reaches out to people on the left and center as well as independents and non-voters, instead of just reaching out to people on the right, but whatever the case may be, I think that this is a good thing. Project Archimedes did help grow the Libertarian Party, and the party desperately needs more dues paying members if it ever expects to get anywhere.

Beck sounds good sometimes, but then after I hear him say something that makes me think that he’s come around, I hear him say something else that makes me think that he has not come around, and I heard him say something that makes me think that he has not come around yesterday. If I can find a clip of what I’m referring to I will post it here.

When Glenn Beck renounces everything he has said since 2001, apologizes for the lies he has told, and begs for people to forgive him for years of Likud war propaganda and fear mongering, it will be a sign that he may be coming around. Until then, I’ll assume he wears his anal sphincter as a head band.

OK, I’ll try one more time, but only more time and after that, screw it. From this article:
In this thread, please post only news tips, IE links to articles you would like to see posted here, your own articles you are submitting for publication having to do with alternative party or independent candidate politics in some identifiable or identified way, or news that could be made into an article.
I should have also said: if you have any comments on other comments in this thread take them to http://www.independentpoliticalreport.com/2013/01/jan-2013-open-thread-for-other-stuff/
The purpose of this thread is for IPR writers to quickly and easily locate stories we should be reporting on, without having to wade through a bunch of other comments.
46 paulie // Jan 12, 2013 at 5:12 am
At least, that was the idea. It doesn’t seem to be working though.
Also, calling something which is obviously not a news tip a news tip does not make it a news tip.
If the thread was not already failing to achieve its purpose I would remove that stuff, and still may. If any of the other IPR editors take it down that would be fine too.
Additionally, it’s a pain updating the time stamp on not one but two articles all the time to keep them on the front page, especially when it’s not working the way it’s supposed to.
So, as I said, unless it starts justifying itself I’m not going to try this again.
