Interesting Developments in the Ron Paul for President Campaign

Dr. Ron Paul was the Libertarian Party’s candidate for President in 1988. His candidacy for President this year as a Republican has been hard to track because the mainstream media has  been inconsistent in their coverage of him, his campaign, and his followers. Many people believe his campaign to be over . However, last week there were a couple developments that I think are newsworthy. I’ve put some of the reports together here for this article.

A group of lawyers apparently unaffiliated with the Ron Paul campaign filed a lawsuit June 11 in California against the Republican National Party.  They allege that there have been many incidents at state conventions where supporters of Ron Paul have been harassed, intimidated and even physically assaulted .  In addition, they believe, there has been outright fraud in many states.  They are asking that delegates to the Republican National Convention be “unbound” so that they can vote for the candidate of the choice.

They maintain a website for examples of fraud, rule-changing, and so on to be reported.  You can find it here .

Here is a  podcast from Friday evening, June 15th, where  Porter Davis, one of the attorneys involved,   explains what they’re doing.  He makes the astonishing claim that Lawyers for Ron Paul are actually taking over Dr. Paul’s campaign.

It remains to be seen if any of this will have any impact at the RNC in Tampa where the candidate will actually be selected.  If it does, this could affect the Libertarian Party’s candidate, Gary Johnson, who is running on some of the same platforms as Ron Paul.

I think the opening and closing provide ample justification for posting it here.

As much as Ron Paul coverage creep is understandable I would have to agree with Trent Hill@1 that covering Republican candidates on the topic of Republican Party machinations has little to do with non-Democratic, non-Republican political news.

The article is a skillful stretch but a stretch it is.

The best outcome in Tampa would be for the GOP Brownshirts to frog march or drag all
RP supporters off the floor during prime time tv.
However, the Romney forces are too astute to do that.

This is a stretch for “third party news”. You provide very little connection here.
