Having a party label helps provide information to voters. Big parties would advertise so their people would know who their candidates are. Smaller parties would only be able to let their identified supporters know, which is a much smaller set of people than their unidentified supporters. It may be ideal to have all voters research all candidates in all races, but not very realistic.
Well that and he bashes on all political parties now. I too would prefer no political parties, and have everyone run as an independent, thus the voters will have to actually look up the candidates and vote for the person who they align with more, but so long as the two major parties exist, I think we need the third parties to keep them in check. Or at least attempt too. We need organization, and running as an independent without organization is pretty much a lost cause unless you are independently wealthy.
Some people get the two confused because independence sounds like independent
Well I know your definetly right about that. Wikipedia says, Ventura ran for Governor of Minnesota in 1998 as the nominee for the Reform Party of Minnesota (he later joined the Independence Party of Minnesota when the Reform Party broke from its association with the Reform Party of the United States of America).
I know that too, but didn’t he, while in office, change his affiliation to Independent?
I believe it was to the Independence Party of Minnesota, not independent.
He originally ran under the Reform ticket, but he did change to an Independent.
“…former independent governor of Minnesota…”
I DON’T think so! He was elected on the Reform Party ticket. Angus King was (and is) an independent but Jesse Ventura was not.
