The Macon Telegraph ran an article today discussing efforts in the Georgia Legislature to decrease the state’s onerous ballot access requirements. The article is actually not bad and quotes Richard Winger and Garland Favorito, both known to this site. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like any legislation to decrease the petition requirements will pass this year.

You left off the most interesting part, from the end of the article. It says the Secretary of State’s proposal, which the Governor also backs, to cut the number of signatures 25% is dead just because a state legislator is insulted that people criticized the bill for not doing enough. He said, “Okay, if you say this bill isn’t worth anything, fine, you can’t have it.” Utterly petty. But it was foolish of a certain Georgia independent (who I won’t name) who has a bad temper, to have made that legislator angry.

Richard.. name the legislator and post his email address and ask people to send him/her a pro or con email. also a link to your coverage would be useful.

It’s probably not a good idea to aggravate this guy any more. He may try to make ballot access even worse next if people keep bugging him.
