Wayne Root: ‘The Greatest Depression of All Time Has Begun’

I am a successful small businessman and a patriot who loves America and always sees its greatness. I am also an optimistic, positive thinker who always sees the glass half full.

But not this time.

I predicted doom if Obama was elected. Sadly the results are far worse than imagined. The economy is in shambles. America is staring at economic disaster — Armageddon. Even me, the eternal optimist is scared at what the future holds. We are the Titanic, headed straight for the iceberg.

America has always been a land of boom and bust. It’s just part of business cycle. But Obama and his socialist cabal have channeled Hoover and FDR, who turned an ordinary bust into The Great Depression with a toxic strategy of more government, more spending, more debt, more rules and regulations strangling business, higher minimum wages, more power to unions, more entitlements, higher taxes, more printing of money by Fed, and trade tariffs. This is the Obama blueprint squared.

The question this time is, is Obama doing it because he understands nothing about business? Or does he understand exactly what he’s doing? Is Obama’s goal to overwhelm the system, incite crisis, sow doubt about capitalism, and force the citizens to beg for government to save them, thereby opening the door to Socialism? Is Obama’s plan to redistribute the wealth, and at the same time to bankrupt the people with wealth and power, thereby crippling his political opposition?

Does it really matter?

Here’s where the story gets downright frightening. This time the results are going to be dramatically worse than 1929. This time we are facing The Greatest Depression ever.

Why? Because The Great Depression had NONE of problems and obligations we are now facing:

In 1929 America was not $100 trillion in debt and unfunded liabilities.

In 1929, most of our states were not bankrupt, insolvent and dependent on the federal government to survive.

In 1929, we had far fewer government employees living off taxpayers. Today 1 out of 5 federal employees earn over $100,000. California lifeguards and Las Vegas firemen earn $200,000. 77,000 federal employees earn more than the Governors of their states. Government employees retire at age 50 with $100,000 pensions for life. The postal service – without competition- loses $8 billion annually. Protected by their unions and the politicians they elect, government employees are bankrupting America. Even FDR said he could not imagine allowing public employees to unionize.

In 1929, Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid didn’t exist. The federal government had no such obligations threatening to consume the entire federal budget within a few years.

In 1929, there was no such thing as welfare, food stamps, aid to dependent children, or English as a second language programs. American’s didn’t consider it the responsibility of government to pay for breakfast and lunch for school students – let alone illegal immigrants.

In 1929, we didn’t have millions of illegal immigrants and their children collecting billions of dollars in entitlements from U.S. taxpayers.

In 1929, legal immigrants wanted only to work. My grandparents from Russia and Germany received no government benefits. They worked day and night to provide for their family and become American citizens. It was sink or swim.

In 1929, we had 150 million citizens with a strong work ethic- all motivated to earn the American Dream for their children and grandchildren. Americans were hungry in 1929. Today the hungry, motivated citizens and entrepreneurs are in China and India.

In 1929, we had an education system that was the envy of the world. Today our public schools are in shambles. We spend the most in the world, and get among the worst results. The difference today? Teachers unions are in charge, instead of parents

Our students are taught socialism and the great benefits of big government. They graduate with few skills, qualified only for low paying manufacturing jobs that no longer exist- they’ve been shipped to China and India. What will this workforce do for the rest of their lives? Live off the government dole? Who will pay for it?

In 1929 children had hope for the future. Today they are hopeless, helpless, and clueless – an entire generation that only knows drugs, gangs, rappers, government handouts, teen pregnancy- and it goes downhill from there.

In 1929 taxes were much lower. Forget the tax rates- they were meaningless. In those days we had a cash economy, so most businesses paid little or no taxes. Sales and FICA taxes didn’t exist. Today the combined local, state, property, gas, sales, FICA and federal taxes are the highest burden in history. This stifles entrepreneurship and hinders the financial risk-taking necessary to create jobs and get out of a Great Depression.

Do you get the picture? Disaster looms. We are staring at the Greatest Depression ever.

Still doubt me? Did you read the recent news report of 80 teen girls all pregnant in one Memphis high school? That’s 80…eighty…in one high school. This is happening all over the USA. Who will pay the bills?

We are in deep, deep trouble. There is no easy way out. The noose is tightening. The economy is crumbling. The situation is turning more hopeless by the hour. The more government gets involved, the worse it gets. Coincidence?

The solution is simple- cut government, cut spending, cut entitlements, cut taxes, stop the wars, end the Fed, term limit politicians, and back the dollar with a gold standard. Or, like so many other great empires of history, America may never recover from this Greatest of All Depressions that Obama is driving us directly toward.

Very uplifting! Yet he says there is still time to save ourselves. I don’t think so.

“…this Greatest of All Depressions that Obama is driving us directly toward.”

The recession/depression began under Bush, not Obama… maybe Obama has super-powers that allowed him to begin the depression while still a State Senator from Illinois.

  3. Michael H. Wilson

The high cost of fossil fuel may have a benefit. It makes it more expensive to ship freight from Asian to the U.S. Couple that with the increase in wages that some Asian nations are seeing and possibly manufacturing jobs will return to the U.S.

Of course it isn’t just Obama who is at fault, George Bush deserves most of the blame. Every war we have been in has had some economic disruption to go with it. Why would we expect this one to be different?

Root sounds like a Republican. He uses their rhetoric, their ideas, their words…it’s unrecognizable from so many other right wing pundits. I’m not a Libertarian, but I don’t think it’s wise for any third party to be that close to what a major party is.

  5. Bruce Cohen Post author

We only wish Republicans sounded as good as Wayne does.

If Republicans were as libertarian as Wayne is, we would not need a Libertarian Party.

  6. Kevin Knedler

Wayne’s next to last paragraph seperates him from the GOP. Clear as day for me.
He wants to reduce size of government.
He wants to stop the wars.

Clearly not a platform for the GOP.

The GOP only doubled our national debt TWICE when in charge: 1981- 1988
and then again between 1995 and 2006

Yeah, 1929. I wish we could all live in 1929 America. Better than today. Oh wait, I would probably still attend that one segregated school.

Is Obama’s goal to overwhelm the system, incite crisis, sow doubt about capitalism, and force the citizens to beg for government to save them, thereby opening the door to Socialism?

Opening the door to socialism? FDR opened the front door to socialism. LBJ opened the back door and every president since has been opening the windows. Bush smashed a hole in the wall with Medicare Part D, lying about it the whole time. Socialism is just part of America’s mixed economy.

Is Obama’s plan to redistribute the wealth, and at the same time to bankrupt the people with wealth and power, thereby crippling his political opposition?

Fascism is the other part of America’s economy and Obama doesn’t shirk away from that either. In Wayne’s World, rich folks like George Soros don’t support Obama and Goldman Sachs isn’t running the treasury. Hell, if requiring every rube in America to buy health insurance isn’t pro-business, what is?

I suppose the irony is lost on Root when his “Reagan Libertarian Contract with America” includes a plan to save Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Smells like socialism to me. Root wants to block grant Medicare and Medicaid. In other words, send your money to the federal government where they can attach strings to it and then they send it back to the states. Sounds like central planning to me.

In 1929, we didn’t have millions of illegal immigrants and their children collecting billions of dollars in entitlements from U.S. taxpayers.

Ahh, what would a Root Rant be without including Muslims or Mexicans?

Where do these numbers come from? I’ve yet to read a serious analysis of the economics of immigration that concludes there is not a net gain. Now, I’m sure right-wing talk radio entertainers have a great deal of expertise in the area of xenophobia, but I’m talking about analysis by economists.

    Even Wikipedia reports:

The evidence suggests that the overall costs imposed on the U.S. economy by undocumented immigrants are equivalent to or outweighed by the benefits.

You can be sure that this page has been vetted by those on both sides of this issue.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_impact_of_illegal_immigrants_in_the_United_States

You can certainly be sure that America has always had immigrants and always will. You can also be sure that Root’s grandparents did not have to pay $1,000 for a green card to work as do current immigrants. Is it any wonder people avoid getting a green card in order to work at a low-wage job?

Perhaps Root would prefer a massive socialist program on the federal level to close all borders. police all employers, maintain a national ID database, and open detention centers for those evil illegal aliens. Or maybe it would be better if American employers just left the country to hire “those people”.

Or, like so many other great empires of history, America may never recover from this Greatest of All Depressions that Obama is driving us directly toward.

Great empires, indeed. It’s time to end this empire. I’ve got news for Wayne – this economy needs a correction and it will be painful. What the rulers of this empire have been doing since before Obama is to kick the can down the road and not allow a correction to occur. The longer they try to prevent it, the worse the ultimate correction will be. It must be all the unemployed Americans and immigrants that are pressuring the Fed into QE mode to keep stock prices high to make the wealthy white folks suffer. That must be it.

The bottom line is we’re a nation of gullible jackasses that have been voting for Democrats and Republicans for 100 years, without ever learning that there’s no such thing as a free lunch. America has got the government it deserves because there are consequences for what Americans have allowed to happen over a long period of time.

They need to own it and they never will as long as political hacks demagogue the issues and tell the rubes what they want to hear instead of what they need to hear. It’s time for Americans to grow up and accept responsibility for their own actions and their own votes.

Wayne Root does not even mention your party. He parrots the neo-CON agenda, while working for Fox News. He knows that many Libertarians will leave the Lib Party (they even stated it here) if he was to gain the Lib Party nomination. Yet he continues on with this tripe.

Libertarians. With no real dog in this fight from an open “lefty” supporter of the Ron Paul campaign for Liberty.

I beg you. Do not allow this idiot to destroy your party the same way that others did so to the National Green Party.

  11. Root's Teeth Are Awesome

    Same old, same old.

No new ideas. No ideas at all, really.

Root: “Obama evil, blah, blah, blah, Obama socialist, blah, blah, Marxist, blah, blah, Obama wants to destroy America, blah, blah, blah…”

By successful small businessman (whose business went bankrupt — but that was Obama’s fault, even if he wasn’t president yet) Wayne Allyn Root, who was Obama’s classmate, yet never saw Obama at Columbia.

  12. Tom Blanton

Michael, in this great empire you can be whatever you want to be if you work hard and play by the rules. I have no doubt that you could become rabble if you pull yourself up by the bootstraps and and apply yourself. With enough perseverance, you could rise to the level of rabble-rouser one day – maybe even have a few rubes working under you.

    Dream big!

wr: But Obama and his socialist cabal have channeled Hoover and FDR, who turned an ordinary bust into The Great Depression…

me: This could have easily been written to reflect the parallels between Hoover/FDR and Bush/Obama. He might have emphasized that FDR’s policies extended Hooverism, exacerbating a challenge into a prolonged period of economic malaise.

As for the solutions, I happen to think they are deeper than policy about-faces. It requires a less partisan, more adult, confrontation of the situation at hand. More need to be willing to say This is not working, and as a matter of fact, it NEVER did work. One thing FDR got right is that there’s nothing to fear but fear itself. People — especially those in leadership positions — must be willing to stand up and say our old way of doing business is making matters worse. We need a different way out of this morass. Right and left are just two peas in a pod, a cocoon of dysfunction.

Cliche as it may be, but insanity really is expecting a different result from repeating the same old mistakes.

  15. AroundtheblockAFT

Let’s hope this is all nonsense. If true, then the people will turn to a strong man when the economy collapses again; they will not “see the light” and embrace libertarianism because the ground hasn’t been prepared and our remnant is too small. So, if you believe Root, time to get the hell out (Jews, 1936, Germany – those who left survived, those who believed in the goodness of the German people didn’t) and make plans for your survival. If you believe Root, then stop wasting time on the LP and start making plans for your survival. The hell with trying to save America; the American people don’t deserve your sacrifice. On the other hand, if you don’t believe Root’s little screed……

  16. NewFederalist

“Let’s hope this is all nonsense.”

I agree. Unfortunately I am not optimistic about the economy’s prospects.

  17. Who Will They Come for First?

@ 18 if you believe Root, time to get the hell out (Jews, 1936, Germany – those who left survived, those who believed in the goodness of the German people didn’t) and make plans for your survival.

    History never repeats itself exactly.

When the economy collapses in 21st century America, they won’t come for the Jews.

They’ll come for the Muslims. The media-generated hatred toward them is extreme. Go to some conservative sites, like Free Republic. The threads are full of open slurs about “moose-limbs” and “muzzies” and “that Satanic cult.”

Muslims will be blamed for our war spending, and for the high price of gas, and for related price increases.

This time around, many Jews (of the Root type) will be standing right alongside many Christians (of the Root type), hurling hate at the Muslims.

But because there aren’t enough Muslims to go around to satisfy the haters, Mexicans too will be persecuted. They’ll be blamed for both stealing our jobs and for living on welfare. A contradiction, but that never bothered the haters.

And if bashing Muslims and Mexicans won’t be enough, the gays will likely come in third on the hate list. Why? Because God wrecked the U.S. economy to punish America for having so many gays. Which is why we must appease God by outlawing sodomy and increasing aid to Israel.

So will go the thinking of many Americans on the right.

The left will simply go after the rich.

  18. Tom Knapp

“The Greatest Depression Ever” is a pretty tall order (the title-holder, as best I can tell, is western Christendom circa 500-1300 AD). Let’s hope Root’s wrong on that prediction.

ABAFT@18, You’re probably right, but behind the curve a bit.

The “strong man” tendency has been evolving in America for decades. We passed the sign post “Banana Republic — El Caudillo, next exit” in 2000-2001, first with the unabashed theft of the presidential election, then with the crackdown-enabling Reichstag fi … er, 9/11 attacks.

Not to say that the US of 1999 truly resembled the US of 1789, but after 2000 we stopped even bothering with quality cosmetics and went right into Tammie Fae Bakker mode — lots of red rouge, white powder and blue eyeshadow, but nobody really believes there’s a republic under there any more.

The only real remnant of what once was is nominally peaceful transfer of power between the Bolshevik and Menshevik factions of the ruling party, and that’s probably on its way out as well.

  19. Jill Pyeatt

Wayne Root says: “Is Obama’s goal to overwhelm the system, incite crisis, sow doubt about capitalism, and force the citizens to beg for government to save them, thereby opening the door to Socialism? Is Obama’s plan to redistribute the wealth, and at the same time to bankrupt the people with wealth and power, thereby crippling his political opposition?”

Wow, now Wayne is a conspiracy theorist.

  20. NewFederalist

“Wow, now Wayne is a conspiracy theorist.”

That might help him get the CP nomination, too!

  21. David Colborne

The more I think about it, the more I understand why Wayne keeps beating the “Obama is a socialist that’s destroying the country” drum. For better or worse, Obama is a really big, polarizing target. Everybody in the country has an opinion on him, for good or ill. So, tie your cause into whatever opinion of Obama you think matches up with it and you’ll be good to go. In this case, tying libertarian-leaning ideas, like reducing the size of government and ending the wars, with negative opinions of Obama certainly makes more sense than tying libertarian-leaning ideas to a favorable opinion of Obama.

Of course, as anybody that’s been paying attention is aware of, Bush Jr. is the one that really got the ball rolling on the bailouts, expansion of Medicare, invading various countries, and throwing our country into debt. Wars have to be paid for – passing tax breaks while ramping up defense spending is absolutely irresponsible. The libertarian solution isn’t to cut taxes and damn the consequences – it’s to cut spending, then cut taxes to match the lowered spending we advocate. Ideally, you’d want zero government spending with a correspondingly nonexistent tax rate, of course, but any move in that direction would be a positive one at this point. “Starving the beast” just means everybody learns we can maintain social welfare programs on nothing more than debt and promises, instead of actually making the hard decisions necessary to pay for anything.

As for whether the economy is going off the cliff, if it does, we have a long, long way to go before we achieve the sort of poverty envisioned in a “Dark Ages”-style depression. We ship many of our used cars overseas, either to convert to scrap or to give third-world drivers something to get from point A to point B in. We have considerable mineral resources in our landfills, just waiting to be recycled. If our economy was truly cratering, Americans would stop buying new cars and start buying used cars instead, they’d repair more of their consumer goods, and they’d recycle what’s already lying around. What this means for us is a lower standard of living than what we’re used to. What it would mean for the rest of the world is economic catastrophe – there would be no more used cars to buy, no more gently used American goods to purchase, no more extra t-shirts from sporting events to hand out and no more extra food from the Midwest getting shipped around. A considerable portion of the world economy is built around using up what we don’t feel like using anymore – if we change our minds and start using our existing goods for longer and longer periods of time, the rest of the world would grind to a halt.

Point being, we’re obscenely rich in the US. It’ll be a long, long road before we reach an economic apocalypse, and we’ll bring down the rest of the world in the process.

  22. Tom Blanton

The libertarian solution isn’t to cut taxes and damn the consequences – it’s to cut spending, then cut taxes to match the lowered spending we advocate.

Exactly right. Too bad so many “libertarians” not only don’t get that but actually seem to disagree with it.

  23. NewFederalist

“Point being, we’re obscenely rich in the US. It’ll be a long, long road before we reach an economic apocalypse, and we’ll bring down the rest of the world in the process.”

If only that were true. The road is a lot shorter than you think. You are right about bringing down MOST the rest of the world, however.

  24. Holy Shiite

the crackdown-enabling Reichstag fi … er, 9/11 attacks.

Did Tom Knapp just say that?!

  25. Andy

Thomas Knapp said: “then with the crackdown-enabling Reichstag fi … er, 9/11 attacks.”

Wow, it looks like Tom Knapp just might have become a 9/11 Truther! If so, it’s a bit on the late side, but better late than never.

  26. Tom Knapp

    Andy,

I’ve been an open, unabashed 9/11 Truther since 09/12/01. I have always called for a full, complete investigation with full public release of the results as to precisely what happened on that day.

Like the Reichstag fire, 9/11 has been a convenient reference point for the imposition of totalitarian policies.

The main difference between the two is that there’s even less (actually no) publicly available evidence that 9/11 was a “false flag” operation rather than an al Qaeda attack, while there’s a little bit of evidence that the Nazis, rather than Marinus van der Lubbe, may have burned down the Reichstag.

  27. Kleptocracy and You

LOL- I don’t think Knapp has joined the St Louie WE ARE CHANGE group or anything, but I think he realizes that the events of 9-11-01 have had a MAJOR effect on our lives and our history in a BAD way if you love liberty as he and most of us do.

Dare I say…how can a person NOT have questions about the events of 9-11? Timing was just too opportune for the PTB, and there are too many “miraculous” events which would have had to occur for the official story to be true.

  29. A Century of Destruction of America

    Darryl @2:

“The recession/depression began under Bush, not Obama”

    Nope.

It began back in 1913 with the trifecta of the 16th and 17th Amendments and Fed Reserve Act, kicked into first gear with the New Deal, second gear with WWII, overdrive with the Great Society and Cold War, hyperdrive in the 80s with Reagan and the Democrats, and ludicrous speed with Bush Jr. and Obama.

  30. Mike B.

I’m convinced that Wayne is our “Agent Smith” from the Matrix.

He morphed into a libertarian body and took it over.

Instead of a computer program from the Machine World, Wayne comes from “Statist World” to weed out any rogue elements within the libertarian world and to restore order to it.

However, this renegade program too uncontrollable for the Statist World is now unplugged from it.

He wants to copy or clone himself a million times or more within the LP so we talk and think just like him.

    Neo where are you?

  31. David Colborne

Neo would help, but he signed his name in acknowledgment of the non-aggression principle, so he’s waiting patiently for Agent Root to initiate harm against him so he may retaliate ethically.

  32. whatever

@22 : Eh, Root sounds more like an “Obama theorist” than a “conspiracy theorist.” To wit:

The question this time is, is Obama doing it because he understands nothing about business? Or does he understand exactly what he’s doing? Is Obama’s goal to overwhelm the system, incite crisis, sow doubt about capitalism, and force the citizens to beg for government to save them, thereby opening the door to Socialism? Is Obama’s plan to redistribute the wealth, and at the same time to bankrupt the people with wealth and power, thereby crippling his political opposition?

  33. Nevada Comes to Oregon

    @36

If you read the paragraph you quote, you will note that there is not a single declarative statement. It’s all questions, meaning there is zero intellectual content. This is also a standard style of conspiracy nutters. They ask questions, that are highly suggestive of one thing or another, but they actually not saying a word.

  34. Paul Baresel

I must say that Mr. Root made some very good points in this article. His discussion of personal debt is very poignant, especially when we see the hundreds of thousands of dollars that college and post-graduate studies add onto a person’s debt. However, there are NO jobs for people with advanced degrees and so we have entered the era of “janitors with PhDs.”

  35. whatever

@37 It is also the “standard style” of what is known as the Socratic method, a very important form of epistemology and one of the foundations of Western civilization.

  36. Root's Motive

@ 24: The more I think about it, the more I understand why Wayne keeps beating the “Obama is a socialist that’s destroying the country” drum.

I think Root’s slams on Obama is less strategic than personal.

Root doesn’t just criticize Obama — Root seethes with hate at Obama. Root is obsessed with his former classmate, who somehow got into Harvard while Root could not.

  37. Markets Adapt

@ 24: if we change our minds and start using our existing goods for longer and longer periods of time, the rest of the world would grind to a halt.

I think not. Rather than collapse, the world economy would adapt to changes in the U.S. economy.

If the third world can’t buy used U.S. cars, they’d find other sellers and/or manufacture their own (cheap and crappy) transportation alternatives.

Adaptation is how the market works.

  38. Robert Capozzi

Mb 34/dc 35, actually, Mike, you ARE Neo. We each are Neo. Root is any character you want him to be. Perhaps he’s Cypher, not sure if he wants the Real World or back into the Matrix. Perhaps he’s the Oracle, able to see the future. He might be Morpheus, helping Neo hone his skills. And, sure, he might be Agent Smith.

As you are waking up to the Real World, consider that all the world’s a stage, and each of us is a player. It’s just a play. We learn what we learn from the play and move forward. That’s all.

Neo eventually learned that even Agent Smith is not the “enemy.” Will you?

  39. Steven R Linnabary

Actually, this essay isn’t that bad even if it is written in Root’s hyperbolic style.

And I agree that the country is approaching financial Armageddon. The problem with this essay is that Root never mentions Obama’s co-conspirators, his republican lap dogs. And make no mistake, republicans are just as to blame for the mess our country is in as Obama himself.

Finally, the mention of the Memphis high school doesn’t fit with the rest of the essay. Maybe worthy in itself of a separate essay. But here it is merely a distraction, as if Obama was somehow the cause of teenage pregnancy!

This essay reads like a hyperbole ridden fund raising letter…but without any mention of the LP.

    PEACE

  40. Tom Blanton

Root is any character you want him to be.

I want him to be crack-dealing pimp and Republican Vice-Mayor of Vegas in a made-for-DVD porno/slasher movie featuring super-stud Erico Dondildo and his favorite libertarian MILF, Sarah Palin.

  41. Pulling Punches

@ 45: the country is approaching financial Armageddon. The problem with this essay is that Root never mentions Obama’s co-conspirators, his republican lap dogs.

There are MANY co-conspirators. MANY groups who have squandered this country’s wealth.

Some of them, Root hates nearly as much as he hates Obama (e.g., the public employee unions).

But others, Root mentions less often (e.g., corporatists and Wall Street financiers, who are on the govt dole).

There’s also the military industrial complex, and the Israel lobby, both of whom had a hand (along with others) in pushing the U.S. into its current trillion dollar wars against “Islamo-fascism.”

Root rarely criticizes the war profiteers, and never criticizes the U.S. military or Israel.

America’s impending bankruptcy has many causes, many parasites.

Every parasite points the finger at other parasites; everyone thinks their handouts are justified, whereas other people’s handouts constitute “special interests.”

Root’s primary interest is in selling books to one group to parasites, by attacking other parasites.

And you seem to have been completely wrong, in that the stock market and the new unemployment rates bottomed out and turned around soon after President Obama took office. And if you went into the market in Summer 2009 or so, you are quite happy. And if you are looking to buy your first house, matters are becoming happier and happier as time goes on.

  43. Tome Blanton

I’m predicting doom no matter who is elected in 2012. There will also be some gloom.

    My crystal balls reveal:

America will be involved in at least 2 wars. The national debt will rise. The value of the dollar will shrink. There will be high levels of unemployment. Thousands of people will be imprisoned for victimless crimes. Surveillance on ordinary Americans will increase. Corrupt politicians will transfer billions of taxpayer money to their cronies on Wall Street and the military-industrial complex. Politicians engaged in criminal conduct will not be prosecuted.

  44. Peter Tharaldson

Only a few on here have attempted to blame Obama versus Bush or Bush versus Obama (I am glad for that). The hard cold truth is that the political parties which enabled their wins are to blame, and neither Bush or Obama had the freedom or desire to do what is right. You can’t keep promising the world while hoping people keep bags over their heads. Eventually the bags come off.

I predicted this when Bush got the damn wars started. I wrote that there would be economic upheaval and hell no one has offered to nominate me for any prize. I’m pissed.

Y’all are all wrong, ya better start worrying about the end times. The Mississippi flooding and now the Missouri is flooding, fire in Arizona that is out of hand and no Mexicans to help fight it. Drought in Texas, 100 degree temperatures in much of the midsection of the nation and the cicadas have returned and making weird noises at night. And now a volcano in Chile is lighting up the sky.
Better get y’all self right in the eyes of the Big Man.

52 mhw, thanks. I’d suggest “getting yourself right” is a good idea regardless.

Michael, you and I are merely second-rate amateur psychics compared to the great and powerful W.A.R., professional soothsayer and knower of all.

But, you may be right about the end times. In fact, it may already be after the end of the world:

His (Harold Camping) 2011 end times prediction was that on May 21, 2011 Jesus would return, the righteous would fly up to heaven, and that there would follow five months of fire, brimstone and plagues, with millions of people dying each day, culminating on Oct. 21, 2011 with the end of the world.

His 2011 prediction was widely reported, and prompted responses from both atheist and Christian organizations. After May 21 passed without serious incident, Camping said he believed that a “spiritual” judgment had occurred on that date, and that the physical Rapture would occur on October 21, 2011, simultaneous with the destruction of the universe by God.

I think it is safe to quit paying your mortgage now as it takes about six months to foreclose. They wouldn’t be able to foreclose and evict you before October 21.

Mitt Romney has returned – could he be Jesus in disguise?

By the way, I think they prefer to be called lesbians out in Sacramento.

No President elected with the moon void of course(FDR-1945,Nixon-1973,Clinton-1997.)has escape a disaster at best in his term of office. When something happens to Obama, what will that do to the economy?
