    @ Bruce @ 69

I have no idea about upside down or left handed leaning pentagrams.

So is it now your argument that you are too stupid to be a bigot?

  2. Eddie April 10, 2011

michael Seebeck, someone inside third parties has to critic you guys and hold your feet to the fire. A whole year and still could not get it done inside California? That is completely unacceptable. If you guys were a bigger party in California, you would have heard ten times the complaints from members about not having the California convention in california.

  3. LibertarianGirl April 10, 2011

Aaron told you directly he was not running? what time are elections?

  4. Jill Pyeatt April 10, 2011

LG, that’s a big question for a lot of us. There is undoubtedly dirty politics going down, however, and we’ll have a contentious afternoon trying to save the Libertarian Party in the fine state of Californmia.

  5. Michael Seebeck April 10, 2011

Galt, I’ve been to downtown Riverside more than you think. I live 2 miles from it. I do a lot of business there.

Lidia is right. Riverside’s big lodging district is by the University. Downtown doesn’t have the logistics yet.

Rudeness is reserved only for those who bring it on themselves. Pathological liars like Cohen are magnets for it.

  6. John Galt April 10, 2011

Rudeness seems to be the orders of the day with too many LP people.

Doesn’t that drive a lot of potential members away?

  7. Bruce Cohen Post author | April 10, 2011

I have no idea about upside down or left handed leaning pentagrams.

And my problem with Jason, other than his everyday rudness was his calling Police officers “pigs” and snorting loudly.

And, of course, with the maturity of a Junior High School girl he hides his mouth so they can’t see who’s saying it.

That’s how we want ‘leaders’ to behave at LP County meetings?

    Great PR folks.

  8. John Galt April 10, 2011

Sounds like no one here has ever been downtown Riverside nor knows how to use google……….
    or perhaps just being nasty

  9. Lidia Seebeck April 10, 2011

@Cohen– don’t try and use MY name to safeguard YOUR religious “non-bigotry”. Yes, we have had occasional past discussions that were on the surface respectful of the Old Ways. However, I suspect we also have never broached anything that would set off your biases. Teaching you that Yule is Solstice is a far cry from teaching you about the Goddesses that were native to Judea (Lilith, Asherah/ Astarte, etc) or the Pagan view of the Elohim.

While I don’t know what Aynrkey used to wear, I know he d0es not currently wear a baphomet (the technical name for a “goat’s head”). Nor do our symbols speak to us!! Geesh, Bruce! Oh yeah, BTW, you pasted an upside-down pentagram on the “burning” cartoon yesterday. NOT appreciated– upside-down is left-hand path stuff, and Mike is absolutely a right-hand path-worker. You sure have one heck of a lot to learn, Bruce, and I’d appreciate it (said with gritted teeth) if you’d GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT! Oh yeah, and I don’t wear a pentacle at all, just so you never screw that up. Different traditions, different symbols.

BTW– I’ve occasionally wondered about the personal habits of some members too (you’ll notice that I’m not naming names here, so don’t take this personally) For instance, cloying perfume is something I abhor. But the truth is, personal habits are just that, and we ought to respect their privacy in this matter.

  10. Lidia Seebeck April 10, 2011

@ Galt– HAHAHA… you ever tried to get into the Mission Inn?? It would also be a highly inappropriate site for a Convention, due to overall cost and the lack of dining and hotels within walking distance. Riverside plain sucks for hotel space, and worse for hotel space that is at all affordable.

  11. Michael Seebeck April 10, 2011

Yes, John Galt, there certainly are. But that’s not what the convention committee looked at. Take your complaints up with Terry Floyd.

Frankly, if complaining about having the convention in a casino in a resort literally ten feet across the state line is all anyone is complaining about, then the complaints are rather petty. The Party leadership visited the site in person and voted unanimously on it because we liked what we saw and were offered.

  12. Michael Seebeck April 10, 2011

It appears that “No Excuses”, whomever it is, is another one of those out-of-the-loop imbeciles that really has no idea what is going on.

If all they can complain about is location, they got nuthin’.

They can’t read either: “contracts” does not mean one.

  13. Jill Pyeatt April 10, 2011

Bruce @ 61: ” My problem with you is your lack of manners”.

    Hahahahah So funnyy…hahahaha…kettle…black…I can’t stop laughing…hahhaha…

  14. Ayn R. Key April 10, 2011

If you were not a bigot, you would not write “goat’s headed pentagram pendant”. You might even bother to learn the difference between several religions you are intentionally conflating in order to smear people who belong to religions you consider “weird” and therefore “should not participate until they belong to a respectable religion.”

You object when anyone other than you decides to smear the religious opinions of others, but because you are a Jew you think you get a free pass, that you cannot be a bigot by definition no matter how much hate you spread.

Yes, there are bigots of every persuasion. You should know that first hand, because you are one of your persuasion. You can say that you are not one because you get a free pass due to your background, but without that free pass your only recourse would be to say “I’m not prejudiced I just hate …”

Your only other possible excuse is to say that you despise certain people personally so attacking their religion is part of attacking them, and you wouldn’t attack that religion in someone else.

If that is your excuse, then you’re saying “I’m not a bigot, I’m a hypocrite.” Is that what you are saying?

  15. Bruce Cohen Post author | April 9, 2011

@ Ark @60 I’m certainly not a bigot against any other faith, as the Seebecks can attest to, coming from when I protested anyone speaking ill of their religion.

My problem with you is your lack of manners or grooming, not your goat’s head pentagram pendant you wear, young man.

There are bigots of every persuasion, I didn’t say I can’t be one because of my persuasion. I say I am not because I am not.

I discriminate against behavior, not affiliation. My prejudices are based on people’s words, actions and teachings, not on some random emotion.

    Try again, Jason.

  16. Ayn R. Key April 9, 2011

    @Bruce @42

It’s very rare to find any Jewish person taking the ‘holier than thou’ attitude.

It’s the man bites dog thing that even makes it interesting.

Then we have a case of man bite dog here, unless your post was another attempt to say “I can’t be a bigot because I’m a Jew.” You are a bigot against certain faiths and you have demonstrated as much here on IPR.

  17. John Galt April 9, 2011

I’ve heard there’s a whole bunch of hotels in
    San Francisco
    San Diego
    Los Angeles
    San Jose
    Fresno
    Long Beach
    Anaheim
    and
I’ve heard there’s a really nice on in Riverside called the Mission Inn.

  18. No Excuses April 9, 2011

@ 57: “We had contracts lined up in Sacramento, which is about as *in California* as it gets, but the locales either didn’t get back to us before the deadlines…”

ONE deal fell apart, so you located outside of California?

California is HUGE, and the LPCA had plenty of TIME to plan a convention. It’s not like these conventions come up unexpectedly — they’re yearly events.

The LPCA could have found SOME location in California, had it really tried.

(But if the LPCA did make an honest effort to locate in California, and this convention is the best it could do, then the LPCA is even more crippled than its detractors claim.)

  19. Michael Seebeck April 9, 2011

“You guys should make an effort to have the convention IN california, so more people can attend. ”

Golly, oh, gee, rookie Eddie Haskell, WHAT THE BLOODY HELL DO YOU THINK WE TRIED TO DO?

We had contracts lined up in Sacramento, which is about as *in California* as it gets, but the locales either didn’t get back to us before the deadlines or they got bought out and cancelled the contracts.

We didn’t just do this on a whim. Planning has been going on for a full year.

Frankly, if you a single thing about politics, you wouldn’t A. ask such naive questions, and b. not be a Green.

  20. Eddie April 9, 2011

So far away from California in general. The point of the convention is to raise money, induct new members, and solidify the Libertarian mentality. You think poor and working Libertarians have the money to attend these conventions? The only people going to the convention are the people “in the know” of being a Libertarian. So what? You guys should make an effort to have the convention IN california, so more people can attend. No wonder third parties don’t know how to build powerful movements. You guys should dedicate one day to do door-to-door campaigning. Instead, what happens is the convention turns into Libertarians patting each other on the back on how they are Libertarian members. No one outside of the Libertarian party cares that you are having the convention in another state. That’s a serious problem. How do you expect to build a California Libertarian movement without at least having the convention in California? The people you should be desperately be reaching out are the non-Libertartian members. I just hope you guys bring in more money than you rake out.

-a young Green Party member who critics third parties for doing these “WTF” type of things.

  23. Jill Pyeatt April 9, 2011

I’m glad to see you weighing in here, Debbie! too bad you’re not at the convention–we could have had a lot of fun!

  24. Debbie Tharp April 9, 2011

Reading the Torah in one had and the Koran in the other might expand your mind a bit. Religion is a tool used to manipulate the masses. Stop spouting religion and explore your spirituality instead. Jeeze

  25. Debbie Tharp April 9, 2011

Oh, and to the Bible thumping Jew basher who posted before me–I gave up Christ for Lent. Bite me. Go read a Koran or something.

  26. Debbie Tharp April 9, 2011

I am just a little dissapointed lately. For those who wonder about my lack of participation, I LOVE the Libertarian Party and what it stands for, but I don’t like the way it has been run over the last few years. I’m just getting a little fed up. I’m not giving up, and still love you all. Just taking a breather.

  27. What Does Chosen Mean? April 9, 2011

I’ve been told that Spinoza (the Jewish philosopher) said that to say the Jews are chosen doesn’t say 1. what they were chosen for, or 2. that they’re the only people chosen by God.

According to some Christian teachings, the Jews were chosen for a specific task: to introduce God to the world. This job was finished with Jesus’s arrival.

The Bible verse, “Salvation comes form the Jews” refers to Christ. It tells the world that the coming messiah, Jesus, will come as a Jew, so look for him among the Jews.

Once Jesus came, the task the Jews were chosen for was finished, and Jewishness no longer has any special meaning. This is why Paul said that “there are neither Jews nor Greeks in the body of Christ.” Everyone is one and equal.

Of course, Jews who reject Jesus doubtless have a different interpretation of the meaning of being chosen.

  28. Ted Brown April 9, 2011

    Who is John Galt?

  29. David Colborne April 9, 2011

Regarding the post cards, I think it was to help push the fundraising event that’s happening in Incline that was advertised a couple of days ago. I’m sure we’ll find out more in May at our next meeting.

  30. LibertarianGirl April 9, 2011

Im totally using what you just said tho the next time im told the “chosen people” thingy , then Im gonna say a Cohen told me that and they should know because Cohens are more special than the others:) LOL ..JK

  31. LibertarianGirl April 9, 2011

and Bruce this is just one of many , Ive met a ton of arrogant Jews , you are not one , but then again Ive met a ton of arrogant Christians and arrogants in every religion . to me saying we are the only way to G*D and everyone else is wrong is arrogant. now give us some juicy freaking gossip from the convention, if you can egg Duensing on to making a scene Ill pay you:)

  32. LibertarianGirl April 9, 2011

Debra Dedmon we shouldnt be nation building , or fighting others battles , we should have a strong defense for us at home and if and when the enemy comes well promtly kick their ass. and Islam is not a nasty religion , some Muslims are nasty , just like some christians and some jews . etc . why do people use religion and nationality to collectively hate people theyve never met for no reason i dont know. Any religion who thinks they are the only way to god is lying. we are all gods chose people

Ken Vaughn Sorry, but The Bible says that The Jews are God’s Chosen People. http://www.allabouttruth.org/gods-chosen-people-faq.htm We’re ALL God’s children but The Jews have a special place in The Bible. That doesn’t upset me. I don’t take that personally. It Is Written! No need to be jealous of that decree. I don’t hate Muslims. It’s just that their “religion” is backward.

It’s very rare to find any Jewish person taking the ‘holier than thou’ attitude.

It’s the man bites dog thing that even makes it interesting.

In fact, our culture and teaching say there are many paths to rightousness and ours is neither the only or ‘best’ one.

Also, if anyone says the Jews are G-d’s ‘chosen’ people they are incorrect.

For students of history, the correct thing to say would be Jews are the people who ‘chose’ G-d.

G-d did not choose us, we chose him, is how it goes, according to the tradition. I’m not making any claims as to what is the ‘truth’.

  34. John Galt April 9, 2011

Wow! I’ve never heard of Ted Brown missing a convention.

    That’s No Bueno!!

  35. LibertarianGirl April 9, 2011

I know its a respect thing , like notice when referring to the Jewish G*D i dont spell it because they find it disrespectful , my God doesnt care if I capitalize or say it out loud just that I try an do what I can to be better and help others. But the Jews Ive met , not Bruce or AAron tho , alot of them are sooo arrogant concerning their G*D and very dismissive of others

  36. Michael H. Wilson April 9, 2011

LG I have been slammed with that comment more than once and given what they have been through historically one would think they would know better.

  37. LibertarianGirl April 9, 2011

Jews can be Bigots , trust me , theres a cpl I know that always throw the ‘you can think you know god but we are G*d’s chosen people ‘ crap around all the time.

  38. Ayn R. Key April 9, 2011

Bruce, are you admitting it is possible for a Jew to also be a bigot then? So you are admitting you are just as base and hateful as any run-of-the-mill Klansman? Good for you.

Admitting it is the first step.

  39. Michael H. Wilson April 9, 2011

Ted Brown has a unique idea. Maximize the attendance and participation.

Maybe the big wheels will try that sometime.

  40. whatever April 8, 2011

Gail Lightfoot has been a great American hero for her part in the fight vs Usurper Barry.

  41. Ted Brown April 8, 2011

I wish I could be there, but the convention is in a very inconvenient location and I found it a bit too hard to get to in a reasonable amount of time. LP conventions should be held in the Bay Area or in the Los Angeles metro area to maximize attendance and participation. Also, our usual time is over the President’s Day weekend in February.

I hope everyone who attends will have a good time and get some work done. I am skeptical that very many people will attend under the circumstances, however. I hope I am proved wrong.

  42. April 8, 2011:

Longtime [California] LP activist Gail Lightfoot [Mid Coast] sent out an Open Letter a few days ago explaining why she’s not going ……….

The LPCA convention isn’t being held in a town with lot a of “major media,” is it?

    Perhaps that too was planned…

  46. LibertarianGirl April 8, 2011

um I have no fucking idea , out of the blue at my county excom , certain peeps voted to allow the Chair sole discretion to send money to the state , at the state excom immediately following certain members voted to allow the state chair to spend the money as he alone sees fit on advertising , he saw fit to spend it advertising your conv.Obviously it was orchestated , your guess is as good as mine , Biggest insult to injury , it didnt even have any info for our Northern affiliate.

I hope Jim screams 9-11 was an inside job in front of whatever major media has the task of covering it( hope of hopes)

  47. Ayn R. Key April 8, 2011

Bruce, once again you show us how you can’t be a bigot because you are Jewish.

Which every thinking person in the world regards as a very stupid defense of your extreme bigotry.

  49. LibertarianGirl April 8, 2011

no offense but fuck you guys , the CCLP got robbed of 1500 bucks to advertise your freakin convention. still mad about it and kind of hoping Duensing makes a memorable scene that gets media attention..and yes I am that immature AND petty

  50. Bruce Cohen Post author | April 8, 2011

One has to feel bad for poor Nurse Lightfoot.

Listen, we almost always vote against each other and have had several fairly public spats over one policy or expenditure or another…

    But, point well taken.

Chairman Takenaga is basically on the record as being extra-Machiavellian as to choosing the locations of the Conventions.

This year, several people who are on or have been on, his board, have told me, this was the strategy.

    Suppress attendance.

Takenaga’s Mathematics, learned partly at the ‘West Wing’ School of Politics told him that the fewer ‘new’ people attending would give him greater control over the outcomes of the voting.

I can tell you that a lot of Gail’s complaints are very true.

    None are unreasonable concerns, frankly.

And she didn’t even say a word about the snow on the ground or the freeway closures or the need for snow tires, snow chains, avalanch cannons, GPS, emergency food, satellite phones, and survival firearms required to make it all the way into the Hotel reliably.

Gail, the lady who recruited Michael Badnarik into the Libertarian Party, a past CA Chair, a Convention Organizer…

No matter how much I pick on the poor girl, and I have, and I will… She deserved better.

How come Takenaga doesn’t have the social graces to pick up the phone and find a way to get the lady to be at the Convention?

Geez, find her a carpool to drive with if you have to. It’s not like you have a big huge Membership base anymore where you just can’t spare the time for her or anything.

  51. Bruce Cohen Post author | April 8, 2011

    Is Seebeck running for Chair?

Rumor is he’s called Mister Takenaga “incompetent”.

  52. Bruce Cohen Post author | April 8, 2011

It was the ‘radicals’ that freaked out about the ‘Cruise Convention’.

They said it had to be in the State of California.

Errr… That is unless it’s *their* idea.

  53. John Galt April 8, 2011

Correction Bruce. The convention is not in the California Mountains, but in the state of Nevada.

Why would anyone want a convention in their home state. It would just make too much sense.

    Keep those pictures rolling in.

  54. Bruce Cohen Post author | April 8, 2011

Rumor has it that Paul Darr was originally going to run for Chair, but has backed away.

Speculation about the rumor is a deal was cut with the current Chair.

Further speculation is Kevin will throw Seebeck under the bus and support Darr in return for the favor.

I’m not sure how that all adds up, but it’s what I have heard a few times so far.

It’s one of many possible explanations.

Or, we can ask Productive Jill.

  56. Thomas L. Knapp April 8, 2011

    Eddie,

    So far away from where?

If you’re driving from San Francisco, Stateline NV is two hours closer than Los Angeles is.

  57. Eddie April 8, 2011

I am just wondering how much money has been wasted on this convention to have it so far away? That money could have been used much more effectively in building up the party than having Libertarians pat each other on the back on how they are Libertarians. Gas money, hotel, food, renting the location, etc. Maybe if you guys used that money and energy to all travel next year in June to a hotly contested Libertarian candidates’ race in California, you would have elected a candidate. Let’s just hope you guys raised sufficient donations. Oh, and start freaking working with the Green Party. Jeez.
