Tom Tancredo: Send in the Lawyers

September 8th, 2010 · 24 Comments

Tom Tancredo sends this along. Some Republicans are trying to deny him ballot access. Notice he makes the general case for ballot access in the letter:

Dear Conservative,

You know you have the establishment running scared when they bring in the lawyers.

My campaign has so terrified certain backroom Republican leaders that they are resorting to legal challenges to my candidacy.

Two high powered establishment layers have filed a lawsuit seeking to remove me from the November ballot in a last ditch attempt to protect their hapless nominee.

You see, the Colorado Republican Party is shackled with Dan Maes as their nominee.

His corruption and lack of conviction on issues such as life, the Second Amendment and illegal immigration makes him a fundamentally flawed candidate.

Maes opposes the Personhood Amendment, opposes eliminating instant checks on gun buyers and was for amnesty before he was against it.

Conservatives who are looking for the real deal are flocking to my campaign.

But for some in the establishment, it always comes down to party over principle.

This lawsuit is a sign of just how serious the entrenched political class is taking my effort to become the next Governor of Colorado.

My attorneys have warned that I can’t go into great detail about the nature of the charges, but I can tell that I intend to fight them with all my spirit.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for early next week. In order for my campaign to beat back these allegations I must raise $50,000 by Monday.

I hope I can count on you to make a contribution of $25, $50, $100 or even $525 (the legal maximum in Colorado) to my campaign so I can mount a vigorous defense against this establishment attempt to destroy my candidacy.

You see, the establishment is bringing their big guns. They know that every day their damaged nominee is bleeding support to my campaign.

Now they are trying to silence my campaign by bringing in well-heeled lawyers from white shoe law firms to litigate me off the ballot.

If there is one thing the establishment cannot stand, it’s an outsider crashing their party.

I am not writing this letter to cry wolf. The establishment is deadly serious preventing my name from appearing on the ballot and depriving conservatives of a genuine choice in their election.

This lawsuit is all about protecting their candidate – a man with no intention of fighting for the causes that you care about.

That is why I must raise $50,000 by Monday to beat back this establishment scheme to remove the only true conservative from the ballot.

Will you please make contribution of $25, $50, $100 or even $525 (the legal maximum in Colorado) to my campaign so I fight back against these allegations?

It’s vital that I be able to mount a vigorous defense against this lawsuit so I can remain on the ballot and continue the fight for conservative values.

We have been gaining momentum every day in this campaign. New supporters are rallying to our cause.

I can show you articles detailing the utter collapse of support for the embattled Republican nominee.

I can detail for you his misleading statements, embarrassing conduct and financial scandals.

But nothing demonstrates just how petrified the Republican establishment is conservatives will rally to my campaign than the fact they are going to court to kick me off the ballot.

You see if there is one thing the power brokers cannot stand; it is an outsider operating outside their club.

To them, it’s all about control. They control the candidates. They control the message.

This lawsuit is about depriving the voters of an authentic conservative voice in this election.

You should be the ones deciding this election. Not high-powered trial lawyers.

To combat these allegations, I simply must raise $50,000 by Monday.

That’s why I need your help. It’s vital that my campaign be able to fight this lawsuit to the fullest extent. Please consider making a contribution of $25, $50, $100 – or whatever you can afford.

This lawsuit is their attempt to distract my campaign so I cannot keep speaking out on the issues you care about.

They want to tie my time up with subpoenas, depositions and fishing expositions so I have to spend precious time and money defending myself.

The establishment is trying to shut down my campaign and silence me – and deprive you of a real conservative alternative.

I am a grave threat to their floundering nominee whose campaign is imploding every day.

I represent the only chance for conservatives to defeat liberal Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper.

But because I am not running under their party banner, members of the Republican establishment have launched a crusade to destroy my campaign.

My campaign is challenging the established power structure and so the bigwigs and power brokers are trying to shut me down.

We cannot allow this to happen.

The voters should have a full selection of candidates to choose from – regardless of party affiliation.

It is imperative that I raise $50,000 by Monday so I can remain on the ballot and continue to fight for conservative values.

Can I count on you to make a generous contribution of $25, $50, $100, or whatever you can afford so my campaign can defeat this establishment driven lawsuit?

Equal ballot access is a fundamental value to democracy.

We must not allow the Republican Party establishment to rob conservatives of a real choice because I am not running under the “Team R” banner.

I sincerely thank you for time and support.

Sincerely,
Tom Tancredo

P.S. The Republican Establishment is trying to shut down my campaign by filing lawsuits to strip my name from the ballot.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for early next week and we must raise $50,000 by Monday to fight back against these charges.

We must not allow voters to be robbed of the opportunity to support the only conservative in the race.

Therefore, I hope you will make a generous contribution of $25, $50, $100 – or whatever you can afford to my campaign so I can defeat the establishment lawsuit and remain on the ballot.

Tom Tancredo is desperate. He begs five or six times in the letter above for $50,000 to defend himself, in spite of his claims that he’s out raising Dan Maes, four to one.

Dan beat McInnis after being outspent ten to one, so Tom has good reason to worry.

Tom claims the Republican establishment is suing him, but the Colorado Republican Party is not a party to the suit. Tom falsely claims that Dan can’t win, but Tom’s efforts to split the conservative vote are Dan’s biggest obstacles.

Tom expects Dan to play by the rules, and Dan Maes has done so. Now it’s Tom’s turn to play by the rules. A group of third graders would refuse to put up with the childish antics of Tom Tancredo and those members of the Republican “leadership” that choose to support him over the candidate that 200,000 Republican voters selected to represent us in this race.

You should be ashamed of yourself, Tom Tancredo. Didn’t you learn anything in Kindergarden?

    Lake,

You got something to say? Say it. You think I’m doing something dirty… make an account at Hammer of Truth and tell everyone there. Don’t hide out just making snide comments.

What a crook you are Tancredo!

What’s up with Arpaio and Tancredo? They are getting rich by milking every penny from those yokels that fall for their hate mongering.

  • 9 Red Phillips // Sep 9, 2010 at 11:42 am

Lucas, what part of the above letter indicates “hate?” Moreso, what part rises to the level of “hate mongering?”

John Gaudio is spewing nothing but GOP propaganda and lies.
So how much is Goebbels paying you, John?

  • 11 Braden johnson // Sep 9, 2010 at 3:01 pm

Tom Tancredo, this whole letter is full of lies and half truth’s. First of all, this lawsuit is being litigated against you by two private citizens on the grounds that his candidacy is unconstitutional. Also Tom, you lied over and over again about dans stances on abortion, immigration, gun rights and the second amendment being a few. Please go to http://www.danmaes.com and click on his you tube link. He has stance videos up on all of these issues, you will see that in the end dan maes is a better stronger overall conservative then Tom Tancredo attempts to portray himself as.
All in all, Tom tancredo’s candidacy is a joke and I encourage everyone to call on Tancredo to drop out or this race today, or allow him to be kicked out of this race on constitutional grounds.

    Sincerely

HoT and it’s creator are so corrupt that any attributed to either should be taken with ‘a grain of salt’ and or flavored with cynicism and doubt.

You have been a liar, may be you will always be a liar!

Mr. Braden, as a conservative, I hope that if you are suggesting that Tancredo’s candidacy is “unconstitutional” you are referring to the CO Constitution. Surely you are not suggesting it violates the US Constitution. On what grounds does it violate the CO Constitution?

  • 15 AmericanVoter // Sep 9, 2010 at 7:45 pm

    John,

This is a campaign letter, that is why is he asking for money. I am not saying I am a Tancredo supporter, I tend to stick with the GOP. But if you take a look at most emails from candidates, they ask for money. Doug Hoffman in NY constantly is asking for cash in his emails. If you are going to attack Tancredo, attacking him for asking for campaign contributions is not the best argument.

DON LAKE… You haven’t updated your site since 2004… Maybe instead of making snide remarks on internet comments you should get up off your ass and do something in the service of liberty.

Then again, maybe you are a liar, maybe you will always be a liar!

    Dearest Coty Banks Junior:
and then you petitioned for political purposes and spend such donations on personal items ……… I did not!

  • 18 Deran // Sep 9, 2010 at 11:07 pm

    @ #3 paulie – LOL! perfect.

I love seeing the GOP flacks scrambling around like the Democratic operatives did against Nader and “threatening” Greens.

I think Tancredo, and other such first tier, indie or third party candidates, are not only going to pull “ideological” voters, but “generally disastified with The Powers That Be” voters as well. It’s a fascinating gubenatorial race to watch.

That said; God help Colorado and the United States if Tancredo is elected governor. And I can’t help myself but say that Tancredo as Governor of Colorado is just a TV evangelist’s haircut away from a sci-fi novel I wrote that’s an ebook now.

  • 19 Cody Quirk // Sep 9, 2010 at 11:52 pm

    Braden,

Personally, you can kiss my Irish ass!

The ACP choose to sidestep their bylaws to have Tancredo run, its their damn right to do so and the law can’t tell them ‘No’!
If you want to be a fascist Black-shirt and boss around the little guy, then you, and people like you, will lose.

It’s people like you that we have third parties in the first place. I hope Maes crashes and burns in this election; even if you have a candidate that matches your political views, yet is also a joke and a piece of sh*t that Maes is- then he doesn’t deserve to be Colorado Governor!

  • 20 Deran // Sep 11, 2010 at 4:15 pm

“fascist Black-shirt and boss around the little guy”

Er, wouldn’t this be Tancredo, Baldwin, et al and their authoritarian and xenophobic cohorts?

  • 21 Cody Quirk // Sep 11, 2010 at 5:18 pm

According to a typical socialist, such as yourself.

  • 22 paulie // Sep 12, 2010 at 7:40 am

When it comes to (im)migration, also according to a typical libertarian such as myself.

But when it comes to the NSGOP’s efforts to keep legitimate competition off the ballot, Cody is exactly right.
