Tomorrow IPR will release a story ranking the top ten Independent and third party gubernatorial candidacies this cycle, along with a few honorable mentions. So here is my challenge to readers as I finish the post tonight and tomorrow morning: Make your own list of the top ten indy/third party candidates for Governor this cycle.

Definitely Tom Horner. Other than Linc Chafee in Rhode Island, Tom Horner has been polling the highest out of all of the major third party or independent candidates this year.

Well, I’ve got two lists. The first is made of those who I think are most likely to win (although that comes with the caveat that even this close to the election, a candidate polling 10% or 20% can definitely win, etc), and the second are my favorite candidates for governor. Sorry if I leave some out by accident that should be there.
1. Lincoln Chafee, RI
2. Tom Horner, MN
3. Tom Tancredo, CO
4. Scott Lee Cohen, IL
5. Tim Cahill, MA
6. Eliot Cutler, ME
7. Shawn Moody, ME
8. Robert Monds, GA
9. Rich Whitney, IL
10. Jill Stein, MA
and
1. Rich Whitney, IL
2. Jill Stein, MA
3. Howie Hawkins, NY
4. Dennis Steele, VT
and that’s all I can think of for now.
3 Don Grundmann // Sep 29, 2010 at 5:46 pm
Chelene Nightingale for Governor in California. I am not aquainted with all the other other candidacies.
Don J. Grundmann, D.C.. Chairman American Independent Party, California branch of the Constitution Party
4 Cody Quirk // Sep 29, 2010 at 5:53 pm
I second Chelene Nightingale, she should be listed up there.

Wow, Cody, that just seems unnecessarily harsh.

Consider the source, the globe’s oldest living eleven year old.
When I consider Cody correct, I say so; he obviously thinks I am 100% wrong —– or is not man enuf to shore up opponents.
Just like 2009 Nightingale, so much of what she did or did not do was illogical, just like Quirk, Grundmann, Lussenheide ‘non veterans veterans association’ and Jim King, silently just down the high way from the worst veterans care campus on the globe.
But karma works well here. Just like Doctor Grundmann’s insanity derailed his bid against Edward Noonan, Quirk will suffer for years concerning his illogical emotional thrashing around, preserved in ether net concrete.
All a potential employer, church leader, or romantic partner has to do is ‘google’ / googol!

As well meaning as it is, plz do not request that Quirkie Boy quit digging HIS OWN HOLE deeper. His unethical behavior reflects more on him than his targets. All anti Democans and all anti Republicrats need to remember that what ever short term gains are accomplished with unethical moves, we must be better than the Big Guy KKKreepts ——– not just as bad as!
Hurt feelings, from any thing that Nightmare Nightingale, Leavenworth / Heavenworth Gruntman, Jim King, Lussenhiede, Braiseale (sp) have to say? Not in this life time.

I like Lex Green of Illinois, Tom Horner of Minnesota, Susan Gaztanaga of Maryland, and Kathie Glass of Texas.
In thinking of other candidates I met or have done research on, I support Julie Fox for comptroller, John Jay Myers for congress, Arvin Vohra for House of delegates, Nicholas Ivan Landendorf for congress, and Rick Vandeven for congress.

Funny, more people take me seriously then they do you, Mr. Lake.
Maybe you should use better grammar to make your arguments sound better and not be the laughing stock of IPR and neither be dependent on any ‘romanian spell checkers’.
You should also stop mailing weired shit to people too.

Yet you do make it up, Lake.
18 Zeleni // Sep 30, 2010 at 1:57 am
Rich Whitney, Jill Stein, and Laura Wells.
Although Milnes should be excited about Lex Green being a progressive alliance strategist, having the last name Green and being a Libertarian. He is probably also excited by the Green gubernatorial candidate for South Dakota, Rodney Libertarian.
19 Gary Odom // Sep 30, 2010 at 9:08 am
For those who listed Laura Wells and Dale Ogden in California (Dale is a nice enough fellow who actually attended Chelene Nightingale’s primary victory party over what’s his name and she even allowed him to speak), don’t bet on either one of them getting more votes in November than Chelene Nighingale unless you want to throw your money away. Frankly, I hope they all do well, as Whitman and Brown are very poor choices.
20 Peter Gemma // Sep 30, 2010 at 12:22 pm
first place:
Tom Tancredo, CO and
Chelene Nightingale, CA (tie)
then (in order):
Lincoln Chafee, RI
Eliot Cutler, ME
Tim Cahill, MA
Tom Horner, MN
Farid Khavari, FL
I don’t know enough about other candidates to make it a list of 10
21 C James Madison // Sep 30, 2010 at 3:40 pm
I know this does not answer the question posed, but I would like to ask this distinguished group of interested individuals if there has been any movement towards developing a new polling entity or working with a well-established one to consistently offer those answering the poll question a 3rd and 4th choice of candidates? I realize that pollsters get paid to ask questions but for 3rd party candidates to become major factors, we need pollsters listing them among the choices. If those in third party movements need to “become” the pollsters in order to publicize other candidates are running, then so be it…

Unfortunately it is looking more and more likely that this article will be delayed until morning. Luckily, unlike last night I should have plenty of time to wrap this up and then get moving on the senatorial rankings.
23 Jeremy Young // Sep 30, 2010 at 7:23 pm
Ross, I agree almost exactly with your list, except that somehow you left off Charlie Crist! I’d slot him in at #2, right behind Chafee.
24 Green Party Conservative // Sep 30, 2010 at 7:38 pm
Daniel Imperato, former Green Party Presidential candidate is on the ballot for Governor in Florida.
Mr. Imperato advocates for High Speed Rail, Green Jobs, expanding solar, wind, geothermal, and hydro.
You must give Daniel Imperato the Independent Green Party candidate for Governor in Florida credit. Dan is a much improved candidate, as are most people, when they are as determined, and hard headed to keep trying to make a postive difference on the ballot.
Imperato continues to be a fiscal conservative calling for a balanced federal budget, paying off the federal debt.
To stop the waste of tax dollars Imperato – although in a Governor race – points out the wars must stop, and those saved tax dollars must go to balance the budget, pay off the debt, and build Rail, Green Jobs, Florida’s infrastructure.
25 Ross Levin // Sep 30, 2010 at 8:44 pm
Jeremy, isn’t Crist running for Senate?
26 Jeremy Young // Sep 30, 2010 at 9:02 pm
Oh, it says Gubernatorial candidacies! My bad.
Interesting, though, that most of the top 10 Independent candidacies in the country ARE for Governor. Other than Crist, there aren’t many federal candidates who belong on this list. Other possibilities, such as Scott Ashjian, Jesse Johnson, and LeAlan Jones, would slot in at the bottom of this list, if at all. And the only important Independent in a House race, as he was in 2006, is James Traficant.

Wow, Cody, that just seems unnecessarily harsh.
[Lake: and much much more importantly, grossly untrue ------- so can Quirk Boy, Nightingale, Jim King, Lussenheide, Braiseale (sp), Grundmann, Gary Odom (ROUNDLY hated behind the scenes by some) be depended upon for the true, prima facia, on the face of it. I asked my self the same question of CP and the ole, fuddy duddy, corrupt to the core California AIP, over a decade ago!]

[No, no, no, verbatim, it is Space Cadet Captain Coty Banks Quirk and the other CP thugs that do make it up. You CONSTANTLY correct folks for spelling your name correctly. Overall, this was a great thread. Great to see some important discussion.
To Darryl @13: What is BTP?
To CJ Madison @21: I would be interested in that, too. Third party people need to think about infrastructure. You are right, we need people or companies who can do third party polls. Also, as has been mentioned before, lots of third party lawyers. I think it is a very small pool right now. And, on the local levels, I think most choices for electoral legal representation are law firms wrapped up with the Dems or Reps.
31 Thomas L. Knapp // Oct 1, 2010 at 5:49 am
Kimberly,
“BTP” is the Boston Tea Party (bostontea.us).
32 Steven wilson // Oct 1, 2010 at 3:56 pm
Sample must be random to be deemed valid. A mailing list from your state chairs might help in contacting third party members and get their feedback on candidates in the state and nationally.
Standard polling in third party samples would be a mistake in my opinion. The standard deviation would make them invalid due to specialized samples.
Defining third party voters might also be an issue. Duration of third party moniker, activity beyond the vote, money as voice, etc., would make it difficult.
If third parties held their own sampling and combined them with a voters guide, it might solve two questions at the same time.
Who are you going to vote for?
Why are you going to vote for them?
