Activist Ken Krayeske, best known for his arrest during Gov. M. Jodi Rell’s inaugural parade and for tangling with UConn men’s basketball coach Jim Calhoun over his hefty salary, is running for Congress on the Green Party slate.

I support Ken Krayeske and work for him because he is fighting for my civil rights. He has guts, he is articulate and he acts on principle. He puts himself on the line.

Ken’s campaign in Connecticut’s 1st Congressional District is gaining some traction. He has a rally in Hartford Wednesday, and over the next few weeks, a joint candidate appearance and a debate. His third consecutive Sunday morning appearance on Connecticut TV political shows will air tomorrow, 9-26-10.

A recent UConn law school graduate, Ken continues to press the other candidates for more debates, including several at high schools and colleges.

“An informed citizenry is a powerful citizenry,” Krayeske said. “Debates are one way for voters to hold public servants accountable.”

As he makes the rounds in the district, Ken is pressing the principles of The Green New Deal:

1) Cut military spending at least 70%;
2) Create millions of green union jobs through massive public investment in renewable energy, mass transit and conservation;
3) Set ambitious, science-based greenhouse gas emission reduction targets, and enact a revenue-neutral carbon tax to meet them;
4) Establish single-payer “Medicare for all” health care;
5) Institute tuition-free public higher education;
6) Change trade agreements to improve labor, environmental, consumer, health and safety standards;
7) End counterproductive prohibition policies and legalize marijuana;
Enact tough limits on credit card interest and lending rates, progressive tax reform and strict financial regulation;
9) Amend the U.S. Constitution to abolish corporate personhood; and
10) Pass sweeping electoral, campaign finance and anti-corruption reforms.
