Charles Crumm in the Daily Tribune:
Local tea party groups headed to Lansing today to oppose a group called Tea Party that is trying to gain political party status on the November ballot.
In an e-mail Thursday, the Lakes Area Tea Party in Oakland County urged its supporters to join the 9 a.m. rally before the Board of State Canvassers met at 10 a.m.
“The REAL tea parties do not support a Tea Party political party,” the Lakes Area e-mail reads. “This group intends to provide a slate of candidates on the November 2010 ballot to confuse the voters and siphon conservative votes.
“Join the Lakes Area Tea Party AND other members of the Michigan Tea Party Alliance for a rally on the steps of the State Capitol to protest the filing of a 3rd party named ‘The Tea Party.’”
Questions were referred to Gene Clem of the Michigan Tea Party Alliance in Lansing.

Who cares? Let them on the ballot. The more, the merrier. The “Tea Party” who are seeking ballot status as a party in Michigan have to be a bit more Libertarian leaning than the ones complaining about it. Otherwise, they wouldn’t complain.
