WICK ALLISON OF D MAGAZINE SUPPORTS JOHN JAY MYERS FOR CONGRESS
Dallas, TX – Wick Allison, former publisher of the National Review and owner of D Magazine, is throwing his support to John Jay Myers, the Libertarian candidate for U.S. Representative in the 32nd district. In a post on the FrontBurner blog, Allison describes a recent Meet the Press appearance by the 32nd’s incumbent, Pete Sessions, as “painful to watch.” Allison suggests his blog readers go to JohnJayMyers.com and “Send money!”
Myers responded, “I think it’s fantastic that someone as influential as Mr. Allison understands the people of Dallas are faced with no choice among the other two candidates. Now, if I can only convince 200,000 other folks in District 32.” On Allison’s blog, Myers added, “Pete has proven time and time again that he isn’t fiscally conservative.”
Myers also said, “You know I can’t run as a Republican, because I don’t want to tell people how to live their lives, and I can’t run as a Democrat because I have taken economics. So yes, I am running as a Libertarian, and I could use some support.”
Mr. Myers did not say how much support was given by Mr. Allison, but he did say, “Wick did put his money where his mouth is and

It’s for Dallas.
But Myers did endorse Obama in 2008.

It’s D Magazine for “Big D”, like Dallas, y’know? And it’s Wick Allison who endorsed Obama in ’08, but he also previously endorsed Bush. That’s what independence and non-partisanship is all about, right?
I’m in TX-32, and I can tell you firsthand that Pete Sessions is a disaster for the district. He’s voted to outsource jobs from Dallas to Malaysia, and he gave a huge earmark to a blimp company in Chicago, as a special favor to a former aide-turned-lobbyists. He needs to go–NOW!

By the way, I forgot to mention that Pete Sessions is an idiot. His “Meet the Press” appearance was the Gettysburg Address compared to the drivel Sessions delivers at town hall meetings. The first time I heard him speak was in 2004, in a debate with Martin Frost. in the give-and-take, it came out that Sessions didn’t know the difference between NATO and the UN, and when Frost highlighted a bill Pete Sessions had sponsored, Sessions went ballistic, saying, “That bill will never pass! You’re just trying to scare people!” That’s the weirdest argument I ever heard, accusing an opponent of scaring people by mentioning a bill they sponsored. Pete Sessions needs to go back to flipping burgers or whatever job he had before he ran for Congress. This job is too important to be held by idiots.

I think at the time Wick believed Obama actually would bring the troops home. I think we should definitely not throw the guy under the bus, the more I read about him the more I like him.
He just hasn’t had a lot of good Libertarians to vote for, and I think it took these on going wars for him to finally lose faith in the Republicans.
In a blog defending his support towards me he wrote:
“Well, I told people to send money. So I did myself. On the basis of their records and not their rhetoric (Pete Sessions is now a Tea Partier!), both parties are committed to a permanent warfare state, pork, pandering, and debt. So let’s give the Libertarians a try. Now that I’m at it, I may send Rand Paul a donation too. Even though he is running (sigh) as a Republican.”
That sounds like a pretty cool guy to me.

Just to be clear here: I was not criticizing Allison, or writing off his endorsement of your candidacy. It’s a very nice feather to have in one’s cap, and I congratulate you on getting it!
I mentioned that he endorsed Obama in 2008 as an interesting side note in reply to a question (“What’s the D stand for?”), not as a criticism.
