Arlington, VA Green Party nominates candidate for County Board

From the Sun Gazette:

The Arlington Green Party has nominated a candidate to take on Democrat Chris Zimmerman in November’s County Board election.

The party is backing Kevin Chisholm, formerly chief energy manager for Arlington Public Schools and a resident of Arlington for 29 years.

During his years in Arlington, Chisholm has been active in groups ranging from the Arlington Street People’s Assistance Network (A-SPAN) and Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment to Habitat for Humanity and the Better Sports Club of Arlington. He also served on the Environment and Energy Conservation Commission.

The Green Party has fielded candidates for County Board each of the last five election cycles. Last year, its candidate, John Reeder, won 32 percent of the vote against Democratic incumbent Jay Fisette. (Republicans did not field a candidate in that race, and thus far have not fielded one for the 2010 race.)

    Not so.

I talked to Congressman Paul about this personally in 2008.

He was as always gracious, and a complete gentleman. He thanked the Indy Greens for putting him on the ballot.

He in fact stayed on their ballot line for a month, before requesting his name be removed.

    Paulie,

There are more diverse views in the Green Party than you are willing to acknowledge.

Suggest you surf the web sites of Green Party candidates across the nation and running now. There are very many views and platforms of sweeping left to right…and all on the ballot as Green Party candidates…

I think Ron Paul would be horrified to have been put on the same ticket as nannyist/statist Bloomberg.

” Other good news for Greens in Virginia. Retired Navy Captain Ron “for Rail” Fisher, […] is expected to be confirmed on the ballot for U.S. House of Representatives [..]this week. Fisher supports have collected and submitted over 3,000 signatures.

    Ron Fisher
is the 8th District Chairman of Virginia’s Independent Green Party The Independent Green Party of Virginia is an affiliate of the Independence Party of America.”

So why would this be good news for the Green Party?

“You remember they were the only state party in the nation to put Michael Bloomberg on the ballot for President in 2008, along with Ron Paul for Vice President.”

Deceptive at best as neither were in fact on the ballot in Virginia. Neither they, nor the candidates that the IGP actually did put on the ballot for P/VP, are even close to Green Party views. Many people here already know this, of course…

  4. There were reports that the Arlington County, Virginia Green Party would run two women.

One for Arlington County School Board.

One for Arlington County Board of Supervisors.

This Green Party candidate appears to be a strong, experienced candidate. A Green Party candidate who has lived and worked in the community on all the important and relevant issues for a member of the board of supervisors.

The Sun Gazette is to be applauded for it’s weekly coverage of the Arlington Green Party. The Sun Gazette treats the Arlington County Green Party as a major party in the county, and rightly so. Arlington County, Virginia’s Green Party field strong candidates when one of the larger parties does not. That’s year after year.

Other good news for Greens in Virginia. Retired Navy Captain Ron “for Rail” Fisher, a strong progressive for peace is expected to be confirmed on the ballot for U.S. House of Representatives in the 8th Congressional District this week. Fisher supports have collected and submitted over 3,000 signatures.

Ron Fisher has been included in the Arlington/Alexandria Chamber of Commerce debate for Congress. That debate is this Thursday night – May 13th.
