Reminder: LP Chair Bill Redpath on the Daily Show Tonight

From the LP blog, as previously noted here:

Libertarian Party Chairman William Redpath is scheduled to appear on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart. Mr. Redpath discusses the 2010 census. The appearance is currently scheduled to air on Thursday, April 1 at 11:00 p.m. Eastern Time, but that is subject to change.

(Note, this is not an April Fool’s joke.)

    This was overpromoted.

Bill Redpath appeared in one of the segments with Samatha Bee, not with Jon Stewart. The correspondent segments are universally designed to make everyone appearing on them look crazy… and they generally accomplish that.

The Libertarian Party should steer clear of those stories… don’t participate in them and don’t promote them. See the “guns for tots” segment from many years ago for reference.

Luckily Redpath didn’t say anything in the segment, except that the census form shouldn’t ask for race. They use clever editing to mash together all the craziest things people say to make them look like idiots… the fact that Redpath himself didn’t look like an idiot is testimony to his not saying anything that could possibly be warped around to look stupid.

We dodged a bullet here because Bill Redpath conducted himself very well given the circumstances.

What I wonder is was the national office given the impression Redpath would be interviewed by Jon Stewart rather than Samantha Bee, then they pulled a bait and switch? Or did the LP walk into this knowingly?
