NY State political news: A personnel change in the media, a candidate for Governor

April 14th, 2010 · 6 Comments

Written by Kimberly Wilder, a co-founder and blogger at onthewilderside:

Elizabeth Benjamin has previously worked as a political reporter for the Albany Times Union. For the last couple of years, Benjamin was with the NY Daily News, doing the NY State politics blog, “Daily Politics”. This week, Elizabeth Benjamin has begun a new project with YNN/NY-1, a Time Warner Cable project. Benjamin’s responsibilities will include being a host of the TV show, “Capital Tonight”, as well as writing for the new blog, “State of Politics”.

In the past, Benjamin has been open to reporting on third party candidates and politics. And, it is a good sign that this morning, she listed a story about a candidate for the Green Party governor nomination, Howie Hawkins. In addition, Benjamin linked to onthewilderside, a traditionally third party web-site.

In a list of political headlines called “Here and Now“, Benjamin wrote, “Green Party gubernatorial hopeful Howie Hawkins questioned Cuomo’s Adirondack land probe.”

I won’t watch you Benjamin – because you can’t provide the entertainment value in NY1 establishment propaganda “news”. Please bring back Dominic Carter on NY1! I miss his sleazy, softball, pal-around crap with our criminal politicians. That man is so perfect for NY1, no one else can possibly replace him. He can do his show from a jail cell or wherever. No one gave me bigger belly laughs than that crazy wife beating toadie, sucking up to white collar criminal lobbyists and dirtbag Albany politicians on the air of NY1. God Almighty, what a crazy laugh riot that Dominic Carter is – Bring Dominic Carter BACK NOW!!!

Elizabeth Benjamin is an outstanding journalist.

She is brave, an excellent writer, and as is obvious fair minded.

Just the fact that Elizabeth Benjamin is covering the Green Party candidate speaks volumes.

    Judge them by their deeds.

The Green Party must applaud Elizabeth Benjamin for covering Green Party candidates as she and the news organizations she has worked with and for have done for years.

    Bravo Liz!

Rich Whitney and banking on the state

Eric Timmons at the Galesburg Register-Mail has written an article entitled “Banking on the State” examining Illinois Green Party gubernatorial candidate Rich Whitney’s plan for a state bank:

The Green Party’s Rich Whitney has got some creative ideas that make you realize how slothful the Big Two have grown. One of Whitney’s proposals is to set up a state bank. I’ll let him explain.

I have worked with Liz Benjamin since she was at the Albany Times-Union and I was LPNY State Chair.

She is interested in GOOD stories about third parties.

If you want coverage in the media, remember to send good material in a timely fashion to the right people.
