On February 20, James Traficant said on his radio show that he is no longer a Democrat, that he is an independent, and that he may run for Congress this year. See this story. Thanks to Carter Momberger for the link. Traficant was a 9-term Democratic member of Congress from Ohio.
Also see this story, which says that Traficante is too late to get his name on any primary ballot in any event, but he is free to file as an independent if he does so by early May. He would need about 2,500 signatures in the typical U.S. House district.

Instead of advocating that he join the real Green Party – ‘Green party Fan’ – should advocate that James Traficant move to Virginia and join his Indy Greens it seems that an ex-con convicted of corruption would be a good fit for the fake greens, with there fraudulent claims, and other delusions
Just in case anyone doesn’t know, the person advocating for a politician convicted of taking bribes to join the Green Party is not affiliated with the Green Party. Real Greens want less corruption in government, not more.

Also relevant to this site is the fact that Traficant ran as an independent in 2002. To quote from an old article:
“Traficant had asked to be placed in a federal prison in Ohio, saying he plans to campaign from his cell in an effort to be voted back into Congress. He is on the ballot as an independent candidate for the 17th District of Ohio, but the U.S. Constitution requires that a candidate be an inhabitant of the state on the date of the election in order to be eligible for office.” (August 6, 2002)

Yeah, apparently he got released from prison last September. But at least if they put this guy in Congress we’d know what we’re getting!
