Third Party and Independent Candidates List Update

January 11th, 2010 · 4 Comments

I just updated Poli-Tea’s list of third party and independent candidates for office in 2010. The list focuses on declared third party or independent candidates for governor, US House and Senate with active websites, and now links to almost 250 aspirants in 42 states! Noteworthy this time around were the high number of Green Party candidates in Illinois and the large slate of Libertarian Party candidates in Texas.

Because of the focus on candidates with active websites, the list is not entirely comprehensive. It was compiled with the help of the 50 State Pages at Politics1 and the Green Papers’ extensive election pages. If you are interested in finding out about all the candidates in your state or district, those two sites are a good place to start.

Thank you Poli-Tea for making this useful list.

I hope it comes in handy. But, beyond that, just seeing so many third party and indy candidates in one place shows the breadth and depth of the discontent with the duopolist order. It gives the lie to the assertion that there are no alternatives to the Dems and Repubs.

I have heard that there are more candidates than there are listed. Maybe Poli-tea should use politics1.com.

There are and it does, as stated above. One of the parameters, which is not very strict, is that the candidate have some sort of link-able web presence. And commenters have been alerting me to oversights etc.
