Press release emailed to [email protected]:
AUSTIN, TEXAS – December 15, 2009 – The Libertarian Party of Texas has accepted over 193 applications for their party’s nomination in this year’s conventions, including 5 candidates for Governor. The deadline for filing was yesterday, January 4th.
“We are pleased to have so many candidates for office,” said Libertarian Party of Texas Chair Patrick Dixon. “We have a record number of contested races this year, so it should be a very exciting convention season. Of course we wanted a Libertarian candidate for every single spot on the ballot, especially certain target races, but we are pleased that we continue to attract more candidates every election”
Unlike Republicans and Democrats, the Libertarian Party of Texas holds county, district, and state conventions to nominate their candidates for public office. County conventions will be held on March 13th. District conventions will be held on March 20th. Libertarians will nominate their candidate for Governor and other statewide officials at the June 12th State Convention in Austin at the Radisson North Hotel. Libertarians accept no tax dollars for their conventions, also unlike Republicans and Democrats. According to state law, no one may vote in the Libertarian conventions if they have already voted in the March 2010 primaries.
“It especially bothers me that there will still be many races in 2010 without a Libertarian candidate in Texas. Some of the candidates that sent in forms at the last minute will not make it on the ballot, as our fax machine was getting clobbered with all the last minute filings. We will continue in the future to encourage our candidates to get their applications in earlier and not wait until the last minute,” said Dixon.
“This is a proud day to be a Libertarian,” said state Executive Director Robert Butler. “We continue to expand our numbers, and we are planning a very active election season for 2010. Texas voters will see and hear our message of smaller government as never before.”
“Voters are frustrated about the weak economy and the ever-expanding government. They know that these two conditions are linked,” agreed Dixon. “The Libertarian Party has the right answers. We need a dramatically smaller government, with less taxes and more freedom.”

Joey went bye- bye:)
“Actually I’ll bet Joey is trying to sabotage Mr. Root and using his disagreement with Dr. Ruwart to cover it up.”
Finally, an explanation of Dauben that makes sense!
“Trent, you can kiss your Dallas Accord beliefs goodbye. I don’t agree with that “Dallas Accord.” ”
You’re clearly lost. Not only do I not care about the Dallas Accord, I’m not a radical, I’m not a Libertarian (though I certainly am a libertarian), I’m not even in a third party anymore. You’re way off base. You know, good reporters will do research before they mouth off.
“Find it distasteful, I don’t care. There exists one role foundationaly with me, and it has nothing to do with political parties. I’m a newspaper editor, a newspaper publisher, a blogger and I subscribe to the view that any candidate for public office is fair game for inspection and scrutiny.”
You’re mostly a muckraker and a third-rate blogger. Everything you write has a clearly identified agenda and is written poorly. Not to mention you don’t meet the journalistic standards of ethics (see your posting of Wayne Root’s comments from a private email above).
I like the ticket of Keaton/Shinghal 2012 https://independentpoliticalreport.com/2008/11/angela-keaton-to-seek-libertarian-presidential-nomination-in-2012/
I love u guys….LOL 🙂
My lips are sealed.
http://www.livebythecode.com/
I’ll be keepin’ it on the low low.
Michael, I swear won’t tell anyone.
Actually I’ll bet Joey is trying to sabotage Mr. Root and using his disagreement with Dr. Ruwart to cover it up.
Joey, I’ll keep this a secret if you can. Mum’s the word!
That could potentially cost him delegates .
The delegates who would not vote for Root are not the delegates who need to be supporting him, obviously. Because if this matter blows up larger than I wanted, well, I’ll have to deal with it then, but if you’re going to base a no-vote on Root simply because of Ruwart’s radical no-child-consent-law platform, then that’s one less radical to worry about.
Thankfully, you radical folks don’t have the party anymore.
And I’ll see you guys at CPAC if you all end up going.
Just booked the hotel, flight, etc. We could all discuss this over a shot. 😉
Joey , did you know Wayne root has a no reprint disclaimer at the bottom of his private emails , and how do you respond as to why you reposted a private email w/o permission.
Doesnt sound like good journalism to me.
That could potentially cost him delegates .
Trent, you can kiss your Dallas Accord beliefs goodbye. I don’t agree with that “Dallas Accord.” I see the “Dallas Accord” as nothing more than the Libertarian Party version of Reagan’s 11th Commandment for the GOP.
It’s a speech code, and it’s high time you radicals — and Trent, if you are one, I am looking at you with this…if not, then you and I will just have to agree to disagree — learn that when you seek public office, you will face the public inspection that is paramount to *any* and *all* candidates.
Find it distasteful, I don’t care. There exists one role foundationaly with me, and it has nothing to do with political parties. I’m a newspaper editor, a newspaper publisher, a blogger and I subscribe to the view that any candidate for public office is fair game for inspection and scrutiny.
It’s just that you guys don’t like the heat on your radicalism.
If Ruwart gets the party ballot access, that is GREAT. I hope it happens again.
But that doesn’t neglect the fact that she’s a radical and that this party can’t afford those types on the ballot.
Ill tell you one thing , Wayne is gonna be pissed, I thought journalists knew when to out a source and when they werent supposed to.
geez what a dumbass
We WONT be removing Mr. “Just Asking”‘s comment. A leak is a leak, Joey reported it–incorrectly–and after someone else has posted it, it is here to stay.
Joey–again, I find your childish sniping at Mary Ruwart to be distasteful. If you disagreed with her so vehemently, you should have filed for that office, or recruited someone to. Mary Ruwart is likely to keep ballot access for the TXLP–I’d bet she hits 10% or so.
Hey, what happened to comment #6, the one from a Texas Republican quoting Wayne Allyn Root on Mary Ruwart’s candidacy? The one in which Root was quoted as saying:
“You are stating facts Joey. Facts cannot be disputed. Lets see how many Texans agree with Mary’s philosophy. I’d guess somewhere between 1% and NONE- about the vote total she can expect.”
“Don’t blame me for my RLC affiliation.”
Did someone tie you to a chair, put a gun to your head, and force you to sign an RLC membership application?
If not, then why should we blame anyone but you for your RLC affiliation?
And how much money would you care to bet that Mary Ruwart gets more votes for Comptroller of Texas than Wayne Allyn Root got for vice-president nationwide?
seriously Joey , your like 85% super friggin cool then theres the 15% weenie that just is insufferable.
funny you say inadvertent but the first line says:
“Wayne Allyn Root just responded via e-mail to this:”
way to save you ass Joey since Wayne clearly posts disclaimers for copyrights at the bottoms of all of his private emails…LOL
inadvertent my ass , hope it dont get legs…
Hmm, paulie, could you remove Comment No. 6. I inadvertently posted what I thought was a public statement, and it wasn’t. It was an off-the-record conversation between WAR and I. Apologies for posting that.
Thanks.
Yes, libertariangirl, I know some radicals in real life, and just because I don’t agree with the stated positions of some of those radicals (Mary Ruwart) doesn’t mean that I don’t consider myself an ally for liberty and freedom.
But I’m sorry, I just don’t agree with positions that call for the repeal of child consent laws.
I just don’t. And therefore, I’m not “radical.”
@ lp blog
http://www.lp.org/blogs/staff/193-libertarian-candidates-file-in-texas
hatred is a strong word , do you even know any radicals in real life ?or only philisophically??
Joey used to be a cool , EX-REPUBLICAN within the LP, dedicated , become libertarian , full of ideas and yada yada , one of the first LPers he hooked up with was the infamous mind-fuck Chuck Geshlider , and the rest is history… ROFL
Ross, obviously.
But, sigh, again, the reason I’ve recruited seven or eight Libertarians in my home county (Ellis) south of Dallas is all over my blog and my newspaper archives: http://www.elliscountypress.com
My stance is clear. My hatred towards anarchist radicals is evident as well.
If you haven’t noticed, Joey, a lot of people here don’t see anything wrong with radicals.
The real reason that Dauben is bringing this up was just posted at Ballot Access News. He does not want the Libertarians to be able to be on the Texas ballot without petitioning in 2012.
Now the real question is what is Root doing aiding and abetting the cause of keeping Libertarians off the ballot when he is a candidate for the Libertarian Party national chair and the presidential nomination of the Libertarian Party? He should rethink his position on this one…
http://www.ballot-access.org/2010/01/05/texas-democrats-wont-run-anyone-for-comptroller/
According to this news story, no Texas Democrat filed by the January 4 deadline to run for Comptroller, a partisan elected statewide office in Texas. Therefore, it is certain that the Libertarian Party nominee for that office will poll more than 5% of the vote cast for that office, and the party’s ballot status will carry through into 2012. The Libertarian Party is the only ballot-qualified party in Texas now, other than the Democrats and Republicans. But it must poll 5% for any statewide partisan race in 2010, or else 2% for Governor in 2010, to keep that status.
It is conceivable that either or both the Green Party and the Constitution Party will be on the Texas ballot in 2010. Someone filed for Comptroller for each of those parties. However, the Constitution Party and the Green Party won’t be on the ballot unless they can obtain 43,991 valid signatures between March and May, 2010, from the ranks of registered voters who didn’t vote in a major party primary in March 2010. The person who filed for Comptroller for the Libertarians is Mary Ruwart; for the Greens, Ed Lindsay; for the Constitution Party, Alan Marsh. The conventions of these parties are free to choose anyone to run for Comptroller, not necessarily the person who filed the declaration of intent. But if no one from those parties had filed a declaration of intent, those parties could not run anyone for that office.
No one filed with either the Reform Party or the Socialist Party for Comptroller, so even if those parties were able to petition in 2010, they couldn’t take advantage of the opportunity to poll a big vote for that office.
In Texas, and in most states, when only one major party runs for a statewide office, any minor party candidate in that race polls a big vote. For example, in 2008, a Libertarian running for a statewide partisan judicial race in which there was no Democrat polled 1,043,642 votes, or 18.10% of the total.
Note: Barry Cooper didn’t file as a Libertarian by yesterday’s deadline, but he will be running as an indy in Texas.
Just FYI (and disregard the erroneous article from my blog.)
Oops. It was on “Forward” ready to send. Just sent it, paulie.
Check your Inbox now.
Still no cigar, Joey.
Why are you guys attacking me? I’m not the one writing the books. I’m not the radical. I’m merely bringing this up “on the campaign trail” just as any other background issue would be legitimate in any other race for any other office.
Now you guys will have to deal with it again.
Don’t blame me for my RLC affiliation. Please. If that’s an attempt to discredit me, you’ll have to discredit Ayn Rand too.
Wayne root is not making himself look good by weighing in on this one.
He’s not in a minor party. He’s a Republican. Although they may be a minor party soon.
Joey, I’m not sure why you’re attacking people within your own minor party. You’re in a weak position to begin with and you’re just making it weaker.
I forwarded the e-mail to IPR.
If Wayne Allyn Root’s e-mail is authentic, I suppose it’s only natural for a fellow Republican to come to Joey Dauben’s defense.
[Comment removed at Dauben’s request.]
Another interesting thing to consider is that Kevin O’Connell, a self-described anti-libertarian, has called for “total victory” by “Reformers” and a “final solution” to the “radical problem” in the LP.
Also, Eric Dondero, who openly called for the destruction of the Libertarian Party by any means necessary throught the 1990s and even into the early 2000s, has also re-emerged as a “Libertarian Republican” who supports candidates like Barr and Root for LP nomination…but then votes for McCain anyway.
Interesting, eh?
That IS the main issue, Joey.
You are a Republican, yet you want to get involved in a faction dispute within another party,
Something weird about that, and Libertarians should be suspicious about your attempts to interfere.
Since you bring it up (and since my reasoning is on my blog), I’ll tell you here: to not give Republicans in my home county a free pass any more. Since no Democrat filed, the only recourse (free one) was to recruit friends who didn’t want to be Republicans.
That’s why. And now back to the main issue…
Why would a Republican like Joey Dauben be recruiting candidates to run as Libertarians?
Mary Ruwart is the only general election opponent to incumbent GOP Comptroller Susan Combs, and she doesn’t believe in child consent laws, and she allegedly believes kids should be able to choose their own parents.
According to Bobby Yates Emory:
She makes an analogy between child sex laws and drug prohibition. I have never asked her, but I would be willing to bet that she favors repealing the marijuana laws. I have never asked her, but I would be willing to bet that she does not advocate marijuana use. Just because she realizes that the child sex laws cause problems, does not mean that she advocates Roman Polanski(SP?) raping the 13 year old girl. To understand her comments, we would need to understand the context in which she made them. Wayne Allen Root’s summary is likely to be an attack rather than an even-handed treatment.
She is only a danger to fundamentalists who dream of controlling other people.
The radicals should leave Texas once and for all, because the more they keep filing for office, the more this stuff will be aired out…
(note: I recruited “reform” LP candidates this year, not radicalized sickos.)
