The LP needs to back removal of the words “general welfare” from the Constitution.
So much damage is done to individual liberties through those two words.

The Bill of Rights. Oh yeah, I remember that.
Isn’t that the thing that the two party system tore apart.

In a VERY bi-partisan manner. Hell it seems the only thing they agreed on.

Well that and the war, Impeachment off the table. No Single Payer, NAFTA, GATT, IMF, bankers money………..

To bad we didn’t get a shout out for the ninth amendment. That one alone, should be the backbone of the libertarian movement.

Great press release, and I love the shout-out to the 10th Amendment.

This weekend the PlatCom recommended added more BoR coverage to the Platform, including petition and assembly. We also recommended explicitly mentioning the 2nd Amendment in the Self-Defense plank, and fixing a couple of BoR-related bugs, by 1) saying the 4th “recognizes” rights rather than providing them, and 2) saying that the BoR should not be suspended in wartime rather than incorrectly saying it has no wartime exceptions.

Some Libertarians claim that the LP Pledge rules out the Sixth Amendment right of the accused “to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor”. (The Bill of Rights — void where prohibited by the LP Pledge?) However, LP founder David Nolan says the Pledge is merely a promise against violent revolution, to distance the LP from people like Tim McVeigh (who voted for Harry Browne in 1996).
