Independent candidate for Congress sent the following email to contact.ipr@gmail.com:
My name is Larry Bill from Jackson, Missouri. I am running for Congress in 2010 from the 8th District which encompasses 28 counties in southeast Missouri. Because I am an independent, the Missouri Secretary of State requires me to get 5,667 signatures of registered voters by July 2010. We currently have 1900+.

There is an update to the petition signers: 2400+. The goal is 8,000 to account for error.

Both the Constitution Party and the Libertarian Party are on the ballot in Missouri in 2010. Why doesn’t he run in the primaries of one of those parties? He sounds as though he would fit the Constitutition Party, and then he wouldn’t need any petition, just a medium filing fee.

^ Perhaps because he’s an Independent?

I’ve corresponded with him. He’s talking on friendly terms with the CP and LP, but for the moment is focused on an independent bid.
My guess as to why: A candidate who’s got an active signature-gathering effort going is building his campaign through that effort (in this case, he’ll be meeting 8,000 voters before he’s even on the ballot), and it may be that there’s more bang for the buck in that than in just grabbing an existing third party ballot line and attempting to get the media to notice.

Richard, Cnizz, and Tom,
Thanks for the encouragement. There’s another independent named Dean Moore from the neighboring 7th district. His website is http://www.deanmoore.us/
Tom,
I think your theory of getting out for signatures matches mine. It forces me to meet people face to face. There are three others in this race, but I never crossed paths with them
in the three parades and three fairs I participated in. I guess they are keeping their powder dry until next year. My campaign doesn’t have that luxury.
I have very little resistance from registered voters when I ask for their signatures. There are several active volunteers helping get signatures, but I need more help from volunteers (not money).
Again thank you and thanks to the Independent Political Report. Visit http://www.larrybill.com

We here at Third Party Revolution endorse Larry Bill in his campaign for Missouri’s 8th Congressional District, along with many other third party and independent candidates seeking public offices nationwide, ranging from local to federal levels.

Just another antimonarchist pro-freedom anti-Plato liberal commie.

I am also friendly to the Missouri Constitution Party, but I have been running since February as an Independent. I would not rule it out, as the party platform is nearly identical to mine. but I love getting out and talking with the people while I gather signatures.
