Republican in NY House race suspends campaign

Dierdre Scozzafava, Republican candidate for New York’s 23rd Congressional District in the special election this year, has abruptly suspended her campaign amidst plunging support, saying it would be the best thing for her party. The race is now between Democratic Party candidate Bill Owens and Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman.

Underdog group within the UFT union proposes interesting voting strategy

In New York City, the United Federation of Teachers union declined to endorse a candidate for Mayor. Though, a group within the UFT –called ICE — has made an interesting endorsement: They ask members to vote for anybody on the ballot, except incumbent Mayor Bloomberg. Because there are 8 candidates on the ballot — including 5 running solely on a third party line — that endorsement should help the numbers for third parties.

Green Party of Florida calls PSC approval of nuclear cost recovery “A license to steal”

Referring to an October 16th decision about “nuclear cost recovery” funds, GPF spokesperson, says, “Granting FPL and Progress Energy permission to raise utility rates to pay for risky and unnecessary nuclear plants is like giving them a license to steal.”

In February, the Green Party of Florida joined with the Nuclear Information and Resource Service and the Ecology Party to file a Petition to Intervene in the NRC licensing process for the Levy Nuclear Plant. The NRC’s Atomic Safety Licensing Board admitted a number of the petitioners’ contentions, and Progress Energy is required to respond to them before the Construction and Operating License application can be approved.

National Green Party site: hackers affected Google searchability

On Sunday night, Green Party Watch wrote about a mystery. The national Green Party website was not coming up on any Google searches. An email to Green Party Watch from Google states that the Green Party (US) website gp.org had been removed from the Google index because it had been hacked. The problem is being resolved.

Reverend Billy to parade through New York park
