From October 9th to October 11th, members of the Socialist Party USA will be meeting in Newark, New Jersey for their national convention. Logistical information can be found here. Brian Moore, the party’s 2008 presidential candidate, will be in attendance.
The party’s only candidates for office in 2009, according to its website, are in New Jersey. Gregory Pason is running for governor, and Tino Rizzo is running for Lt. Governor.

Greg Pason is guaranteed to be there. I’m not sure about Tino Rozzo, but maybe.

I met some of the SPUSA folks in Pittsburgh. They were cool people.
I hope they were OK when Shenley was attacked by the paramilitary police force that was intent on mass-arresting a bunch of students most of whom didn’t even know what the G20 was.

the sound of the jack- booted ,thug stormtroopers marching and beating their batons on their shields was chilling.
Is this even America anymore?

It’s not the America that it used to be.

I’ve seen videos of similar things, mainly the one where the police blocked some UPitt students in a stairwell, then subjected them to tear gas and rubber bullets. I don’t know where the SP folks were then, but they’ve been sending in updates periodically, so I think they’re okay.

This has been going on for thousands of years. It never stopped and it never will stop.

Peter, I walked with them from one location to Shenley Plaza but then split off from them when we got there, because Shenley was still really peaceful at that point (only a few cops, and not really doing anything) – about 30 mins after that, the cops started doing stupid crap (like throwing a smoke bomb up-wind) just to scare the students into doing stupid things. It worked, and the students ran like idiots, risking trampling one another.
