In his column in Pennsylvania’s Norristown Times-Herald, editor Stan Huskey suggests a “Pragmatic Party”. After saying some nice things about the Republicans, Huskey writes, “I still believe we’re all our own keepers and we make the bed we lie in. I still believe government is too intrusive in our lives and should be contracted, not expanded. Unfortunately, I’m not sure either party believes in any of the above.”
Looking for a name for his party, Huskey writes, “The Federalist Party has a nice ring to it, but they were all about government. The Whig party just sounds strange. There are more than two parties, I know, with the Independent Party carrying much more weight than the Green Party, and let’s not forget about Ross Perot’s Reform Party. But those aren’t parties most people want to go to. We need to throw a party that a lot of people want to go to.”
Though he cites Thomas Jefferson as his model, Huskey does not mention the Libertarian Party or the Constitution Party in his column.

Wow, he does go to great lengths to avoid mentioning the Libertarians….talk about reinventing the flat tire!

What is the “Independent Party” that Huskey is referring to?

Independent Party? That’s weird.
Norristown is about five minutes from where I live. I think there’s actually an elected Libertarian election official there.

There is no Independent Party in PA. Why splinter into another party, you could join the Constitution or Libertarian Party.

Frankly, I don’t think he really knows what he’s talking about. He mentions the Reform Party as though it were still an active force, with H. Ross Perot still involved in it.
