Richard Winger of Ballot Access News critiques Top-Two proposal in California

Ballot Access expert Richard Winger writes about an upcoming vote in California about instituting a “Top-Two” system for primaries. Winger notes that a Top-Two system, “…in practice, results in a complete absence of minor party and independent candidates from the November ballot.” Winger lists five better ways to achieve the positive goals some Top-Two proponents are seeking.

Nader announces “Only the Super-Rich Can Save Us!” book tour events for Sept/Oct 2009

A Ralph Nader supporter has sent around an e-mail announcing the dates of Nader’s upcoming book tour. The book is fiction, and is titled, “Only The Super Rich Can Save Us.” Tour dates listed start on September 11th and run through October 19th. The launch week will be September 22-29th, 2009. The actual book launch event will be in New York City on September 23rd.

Green Party of Pennsylvania to protest G-20 conference, attend environmental conventions, plus related news

The Green Party of Pennsylvania is organizing to protest in Pittsburgh with other groups against the supposedly secretive and corrupt G-20, “an organization that represents
the finance ministers and central bankers of the world’s twenty largest
economies.” Also in Pittsburgh in the same week, the party will be participating in the “Three Rivers Climate Conference.” Prominent Greens Jesse Johnson and Malik Rahim will be attending. Other Pennsylvania Green Party events also listed below the fold.
