‘Naked Cowboy’ drops out of New York mayoral race

September 4th, 2009 · 2 Comments

Robert Burck, “the so-called Naked Cowboy of Times Square,” is ending his run for mayor of New York, the New York Times reports in Saturday’s edition. Burck said that after dealing with the city’s campaign bureaucracy and myriad disclosure forms, “I’m absolutely dropping out.” He had already been denied ballot access “because of deficiencies in his paperwork, pending a hearing.” Burck said Friday, “What I want to do is stick with what I do best. It’s probably why I look like a naked cowboy, and Mayor Bloomberg looks like a mayor.”

More details about why the Naked Cowboy dropped out are here:

Also, thanks to his participation and withdrawal from the race, some independent and third party candidates received mention in the Village Voice. The article above notes:

-Along with Porkpie and the major party contenders, Green Party candidate Reverend Billy persists in the race, as do Libertarian Party candidate Joseph Dobrian, Rent is Too Damn High Party candidate Jimmy McMillan (warning: loud noise at link), Party for Socialism and Liberation candidate Frances Villar, and Socialist Workers Party candidate Dan Fein. -
