Illinois Libertarians say voters should choose university board

The Champaign News-Gazette reports that the “1,500-member Libertarian Party of Illinois has renewed its support for legislation to permit voters to elect members of the University of Illinois Board of Trustees.” The Illinois LP, “citing newspaper reports and the findings of the Illinois Admissions Review Commission about abuses in student admissions” at the university, said “it ‘strongly feels that the results of the investigation and the tarnishing of the U of I’s reputation is a result of the compromising of integrity by certain elected officials and their associates which, once again, leaves a black mark on Illinois.'” The Libertarians “say that individuals should have to ‘come before the voters to prove their case that they deserve to sit on the board of trustees.'”

Sounds like a reformer argument, not a Libertarian one.
