An appropriate audience, given such opinions in his book as
“With all the violence, sex, and drugs rampant in our schools, we could all do far worse than start each school day with prayer. It can’t hurt. It can only help.
“The overwhelming majority of people in the United States believe in God. Many of us — myself included — accept as the truth that the United States owes its remarkable success and prosperity to our belief in God.”
above from page 74 of his book which presents some amazing ideas about our libertarian political positions.
I always thought that hard work, thrift, labor shortages promoting high wages for the working man, Wall street, investment banking, and CAPITALISM were the decisive issues.

Please protect my spirituality by leaving your religion at home and temple! SECULAR Public Administration and Politics ………..
Geez Doctor George, what is your problem ………..

Think about it Don.
Do you REALLY want those in power today to decide which prayer you should be forced to recite??
Led of course by the Reverend Wright…or maybe you think Obama is really a Muslim….
Be careful, Don. You might get what you are asking for!
PEACE

I’ll second George Phillies’ observations. While most Americans do in fact believe in God, however defined, the notion that it is this belief which has made America great is simply ludicrous. Most people around the globe – including the terrorists who attacked the US on 9/11/2001 – believe in God, and believe that THEIR version of God is the correct one. So this certainly can’t be the reason why Americans have been so successful in creating a productive and relatively free society. If Root really believes that, he’s a moron. If he doesn’t really believe it, but says it anyhow, he’s pandering to right-wing religious yahoos.

I’ve been saying since 2007, the reason Root ran for the LP nomination was because he wanted a new gig as a right-wing TV/radio host and author. To become the next O’Reilly/Savage/Hannity, etc. Lots of money in that.
But Root needed some “creds” to snag the gig. Lots of Rush wannabes out there. So he ran for the LP ticket to gain creds.
Well, my prediction proved true. He snagged a spot on the LP ticket, and then leveraged that to increase his personal fame and wealth.
So David, of course Root panders to the right. He’ll pander to anyone who can give him what he currently wants.
He began his campaign pandering to pro-war, anti-gay marriage conservatives. Then he did a 180 degree turnaround and pandered to LP radicals, claiming to be antiwar, and marched in a gay rights parade in 2008.
He also claimed to be “Ron Paul on steroids” when Paul was popularin 2008.
Now Root’s pro-state’s rights on gay marriage, and avoids talking antiwar, so as not to offend his new Fox News audience.
Root will always pander to whichever group he currently wants something from.

Make all schools private, and then you can have prayer in your schools. Deal?

To clarify any confusion: both Lake and Phillies are pro-secular. It seems there may have been some miscommunication in the comments here.

After rereading Mr Lakes comments, I stand with egg on my face…

@2
Don,
I think you may possibly have missed my quotation marks. The statements about school prayer being good are quotations from Wayne Ro0t’s Book The Conscience. They are positions I do not support.
Personally, I heartily endorse your first two sentences.

George,
Are you going to run again in 2012?
11 George Phillies // Aug 6, 2009 at 4:48 pm
Peter,
I am somewhat undecided, but don’t look at it as an attractive possibility. It is a very expensive and time-consuming activity. I think first we would need to separate the party from the scoundrels who gave us Barr and his fake campaign as a nominee, both by supporting him and by hoodwinking Mary Ruwart into running to split the vote in such a way that Barr could slip in. (Of course, Mary also has many fine supporters who are good libertarians, without which this stunt would not have worked.)

Who do you think would have won otherwise?

Personally, I think either Kubby or Root.
