Elizabeth May stands firm on marijuana legalization and opposition to mandatory minimums
posted by Matthew Johnston / Saturday, July 04, 2009

What does the Green Party have to offer libertarian voters? That’s the question I had in mind when I attended a wine and cheese fundraiser for Elizabeth May [Canadian Green Party Leader] in Calgary on Thursday…

…May answered without hesitation in support of reforming Canada’s drug laws. She argued that prohibition fuels organized crime; that the government’s hysterical anti-marijuana propaganda is teaching children to mistrust all anti-drug messages; and that mandatory minimum sentencing doesn’t work.

May continues to show courage on social policy, opposing harmful government prohibitions. Her scepticism of big government, however, disappears when it comes to fiscal and economic policy, where she prefers interventionism.

Oh, oh… I fear a “Progressive Alliance Strategy” rambling is soon to follow. :)

Hey, I had nothing to do with this. But I have recently asked Richard Winger to attend the GP ANC In Durham. July 23-26. I asked him if he had any green contacts.

Progressivism, Elizabeth, not interventionism. That is the compromise with libs.

What does the Green Party have to offer libertarian voters? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The opportunity to win-for a change. Coordinate your votes instead of throwing them away by the millions-to the dems & reps. Whydontcha?

Karen, hubby can hose the crops with Miracle Grow & stick the pigs & slop the cows & push them over when they fall sleep & collect the eggs from the hens. Hey, I know where eggs come from. While you are gone a day or two. NC is just a hop, skip & a jump away!

The chickens lay them in cartons a dozen at a time. All you have to do is blindfold them so they don’t see you take their cartons. Well, there’s a little more to it. You have to wash the cartons or people won’t buy them.

Hey, I understand about the birds & the bees.

  • 12 Robert Milnes // Jul 7, 2009 at 9:52 pm

Speaking of bees, haven’t seen many this year. Karen, have they migrated south?

  • 13 Mike Theodore // Jul 7, 2009 at 10:01 pm

Wow. That was one of the worst Progressive Alliance strategy rants I’ve read in some time. What the heck are you talking about, man?!

  • 14 Robert Milnes // Jul 7, 2009 at 10:06 pm

Colony Collapse Disorder/2007. Did the Republicans mess up the bees too?

  • 15 Robert Milnes // Jul 7, 2009 at 10:07 pm

    He’s tripping. No, he is.

Mike, one advantage I have over non-schizophrenics is that I have twice the brain power.

& watch out for those boring sane people. Quite regularly they break out into a frenzy. Up to & including having a war. Even optional ones. See: President Bush/Iraq War.

I wonder what Robert Milnes thinks of this.

  • 19 Robert Milnes // Jul 8, 2009 at 3:04 am

Robert is waiting with great excitement for Kimberly to come in and spank him.

  • 20 Robert Milnes // Jul 8, 2009 at 3:05 am

Mike, have you figured out yet that I am right about the Titanic?

  • 21 Robert Milnes // Jul 8, 2009 at 3:08 am

Full steam ahead would have allowed the bilge pumps to operate at maximum capacity.

All they had to do was beach her or run aground i.e. depth of about 96′.

  • 23 Robert Milnes // Jul 8, 2009 at 3:29 am

Kimberly, do you know your name is an adverb?

  • 24 Robert Milnes // Jul 8, 2009 at 4:25 am

    & then a comparative adjective?

  • 25 Third Party Revolution // Jul 8, 2009 at 11:47 am

So Robert, do you have a website running for your 2012 presidential candidacy?

  • 26 Robert Milnes // Jul 8, 2009 at 2:11 pm

TPR, no. I’m hoping to upgrade/update my 2008 website soon.

  • 27 Robert Milnes // Jul 8, 2009 at 2:12 pm

Kimberly, can you get me, Richard Winger, Karen Kwiatkowski & Tom Knapp invited to speak at the Green ANC?

  • 28 paulie // Jul 8, 2009 at 6:18 pm

    Robert,

I imagine it is way too late to get invited to speak there, at least if you are not a major celebrity of some sort.

  • 29 Robert Milnes // Jul 8, 2009 at 9:01 pm

Well gpw had a recent post where suggested speakers were proposed. Exactly my Catch-22. My claim to fame is The Progressive Libertarian Alliance. As long as it is seen as just my theory, I’m a nobody.

Unfortunately political science is not physical science.

  • 31 Robert Milnes // Jul 8, 2009 at 9:06 pm

Richard had similar reservations. Maybe too late. He said he’s never been to a green convention & would like to.

  • 32 paulie // Jul 9, 2009 at 6:53 am

He said he’s never been to a green convention & would like to.

I made the tail end of one in Milwaukee, 2004 and the whole thing in Chicago, 2008. You should go if you can afford the gas, but I really do not think you have any chance at a speaking slot, sorry.
