how could credentials be verified with complete online voting ? I mean there are so many ways to corrupt and cheat that system .

  2. Kimberly Wilder August 3, 2009

The elections for GP-US Steering Committee are being done through the on-line proposal section. Here is the timeline:

    Currently in “Discussion”

    Discussion 07/28/2009 – 08/10/2009

    Voting 08/11/2009 – 08/17/2009

  3. Dave Schwab August 3, 2009

It’s my understanding that delegates decided ahead of time that all the decision-making should be conducted online, so that not only delegates who could afford to travel to NC for four days would be able to participate. To claim that no decisions were made because not enough people showed up seems like a pretty big distortion of the facts.

So what is the current count of Greens running for office in 2009? How many campaigns are planned for 2010?

  4. Michael Cavlan July 27, 2009

Did Farheen Hakeem from Minnesota get elected to the SC? Did David Strand?
Guess I will find out pretty soon. Farheen lives two blocks from my house and she is a friend and political ally.

I felt like the meeting provided time for some rethinking and reorganization. It was not perfect and not the single thing that will save the Green Party. However, several talented candidates for SC are running, which is a big positive. I don’t doubt that times are rough, but the meeting was a step in the right direction. Some early discussion of the 2010 meeting also sounds promising.

I would like to thank the Black Caucus for playing a very active and important role in this years very successful annual national meeting.

George Martin (WI) led the facilitation for the messaging plenary.

George Friday (NC) facilitated the Single Payer Working Group and hosted the Single Payer Panel.

George Friday is also a co-chair of the Green Party of North Carolina.

From the Black Caucus report at Durham:

They had a face-to- face meeting at the historic Know Bookstore on Friday.

The new Black Caucus Co-Chairs are Morgan Moss, Jr (LA) and Betty Davis (NY)

The new Delegate to the National Committee for the Black Caucus is Angela Knox (GA)

The new Treasurer is Thomas Muhamad.

Theresa ElAmin (NC) also played a prominent role in planning the convention.

The Black Caucus sponsored several workshops including one on Reparations. Asa Gordon (DC) conducted a workshop on Green’s Democratizing the Electoral College Civil Action.

Asa commented that he found the ANM in Durham to be, “compact and efficient.” From a former NASA Engineer that is high praise!

    Welcome!

“I was banned from posting in their chat room. Because I did not put on a smiley, happy, polly anna face and pointed out these facts and what led to them.

the Green Committee To End Free Speech stepped in quickly and banned me.

Quick, shoot the messenger. Sad beyond belief. This thing has such huge potential. especially at this time……..and for those of us who are serious about building a real, viable alternative to the corrupt, pro-corporate, pro-war two party system.”

Oh Mike, ya want the Greens to be different from the other juvenile delinquents pretending to represent the Loyal Opposition against the Duopoly Establishment? Every thing you said could be aimed at reformers, Bible Thumpers, Libs, progressives, and other whiny do nothings.

Stating complaints is import, but putting dents into the bad guys is also a motion and mission. Why deal with you and the truth when the farty honchos can do what they do best: nothing.

This activity does not bode well for effective green activities. I am thinking of the Reform Party USA and its ‘Inter net Police’ and then its failing fortunes.

Could have predicted it! [Oh, we did…….]

  8. Robert Milnes July 27, 2009

There is another possibility. Some sort of webcast or webconference. If all national parties had a meeting same day & webconferenced.

  9. Robert Milnes July 27, 2009

Michael Cavlan, that is terrible. Really really bad. Way worse than I imagined. I thought maybe the geographic location was not centralized enough, but it sounds like deeper problems than that. Well then what was all the hubbub by GP Secretary about “overbooked” etc. ? No wonder they didn’t want me & Richard to attend. We’d see first hand the disaster. & I was actually calling for an alternative meeting for Richard & I & lots of publicity for a worthwhile turnout! McKinney didn’t bother to show up in person? What a disaster!/// Well, I suggest we try again in about a month. A more centralized location like St. Louis. & everybody is requested to show up & nobody gets turned down or censored. How does that sound, everybody? You are going to have to DEMAND IT from the Party, people.

  10. Michael Cavlan July 27, 2009

Ninety odd people showed up for the GP National meeting in Durham, North Carolina. A total of 26 states were represented. They could not make any real decisions because quorum was not met. Cynthia McKinney did not show up in person but instead via video, dressed almost in her pajama’s.

Sounds like a rip roaring success. Oh yes and I was banned from posting in their chat room. Because I did not put on a smiley, happy, polly anna face and pointed out these facts and what led to them.

the GP Committee To End Free Speech stepped in quickly and banned me.

Dear oh dear. What a meanie, destructo-greenie I am.

Quick, shoot the messenger. Sad beyond belief. This thing has such huge potential. especially at this time.

There have been some very important lessons for those of us who are serious about building a real, viable alternative to the corrupt, pro-corporate, pro-war two party system.
