The Maine Green Independent Party holds the title of the country’s oldest state Green Party, founded in 1984. At the party’s yearly convention, members celebrated the 25th anniversary of the party’s founding.
The Maine Green Independent Party is showing its age.
In addition to the regular business of choosing leadership and setting policy goals, members attending the annual convention in Augusta on Sunday also celebrated the party’s 25th anniversary.
Party leaders said its founding in 1984 makes it the oldest state Green party in the country.

Congrats to the party on its long existence. It also happens to be one of the most successful Green Parties in the US.

It’s nice to see a party get this old, but it will be really something when the Prohibition Party turns 140 years old this year.
