Michael Hampton: Why Glen Jacobs is Inevitable

April 7th, 2009 · 26 Comments

Over at Homeland Stupidity, Michael Hampton writes about Glen Jacobs’ (aka ‘Kane’) recent speech at the NH Liberty Forum last month. He includes a video of the talk.

Hampton writes:

Glen Jacobs is better known as Kane from World Wrestling Entertainment. In sharp contrast to Kane’s vicious and mentally disturbed persona, Jacobs is perhaps one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet.

And all you wrestling fans will be surprised to learn that he’s quite intelligent, too. This comes through in his speech at the New Hampshire Liberty Forum, where he explained why the libertarian paradigm must prevail and why humanity must progress upward toward liberty.

Read Hampton’s brief on the speech and see the speech itself at Homeland Stupidity. According to Hampton, Jacobs is a Free Stater and maintains a home in New Hampshire. Jacobs maintains a political blog called The Adventures of Citizen X and is a member of the Libertarian Party.

Having met and spent some quality discussion time with him in Denver, I can vouch for the assessment. Glen truly is a nice guy. Even got him to crack up when the man taking our picture had his thumb over the camera lens, which he though was hilarious.

He’s an asset to the Party, even if he can’t do too much since he’s on the road all the time.

I met Glen in Denver too. Great guy. I’d love to see him run for office as a Libertarian at some point. He’d make a great Presidential candidate but I heard that he was born in Spain so he may not be able to run for President. He’d make a great candidate for Governor or Congress or any other office though.

If anything, because he’s on the road all the time, he’s become an expert on the TSA, and on the taxes. He mentioned to me that he has to do taxes in 47 states plus feds every year, and he hates it. Probably drives his accountant nuts too. I have to do only 2 states every year and that’s bad enough.

    Andy,

We’re discussing that in the other thread…

    http://www.independentpoliticalreport.com/2009/04/new-lp-straw-polls-chair-and-pres

Much more on that issue (or non-issue) there.

  • 6 Erik Geib // Apr 7, 2009 at 4:01 pm

    It’s not a non-issue. *sigh*

  • 7 Erik Geib // Apr 7, 2009 at 4:02 pm

Puerto Ricans, for example, are not ‘naturally born’ citizens – they’re statutory citizens. And this is a U.S. territory! You have to be born in the United States to be a naturally born citizen.

I’ve already stated my position on the other thread, so I’m not sure why you want to re-argue it here, but it is that even if you are technically correct, it is still most likely a non-issue.

Now that’s interesting. It’d be cool to run a PR candidate and bring some attention to this ridiculous facet of Empire.

Andy, is this you with jacobs?

There’s a picture of Glenn and I floating around somewhere, too. He was seated as a WV delegate in Denver and is a member of the LPWV.

Awesome to hear him talk about the non-aggression axiom! There have been rumors for years that he’ll retire from wrestling; who knows if it’s true.

Minor correction: I think his name is spelled “Glenn Jacobs”.

Yep, that’s me with him, and no, we are not related, at least to my knowledge (unless you want to say that everyone is related if you go back far enough).

I asked Glenn about the possibility of him running for office. He said that he was hesitant about doing that because doesn’t like politicians and doesn’t really want to become one. If he would run for office it would be a major coup for the Libertarian Party/ Movement.

    Two Ns acording to wikipedia:

There are plenty of opportunities to run for office without becoming a politician in the LP.

Does anyone know who Glen(n) was backing in Denver? Hope it wasn’t Barr or Root.

  • 19 paulie // Apr 7, 2009 at 7:38 pm

    Ruwart.

  • 20 Andy // Apr 7, 2009 at 7:39 pm

Glenn was backing Mary Ruwart to be the Presidential candidate.

I broached the subject of running for office with him, and got a “we’ll see”. Early on, I think that’s a good sign.

As for the eligibility concerns, I commented on Tom’s blog that I just don’t see the major candidates or their lackeys in the press scrutinizing third party candidates on such technicalities.

  • 22 Michael Hampton // Apr 8, 2009 at 1:09 pm

According to Glen’s name badge, it’s one n.

  • 23 paulie // Apr 8, 2009 at 1:13 pm

Clicked through a couple of source articles in wikipedia, and so far they all use two Ns.

  • 24 paulie // Apr 8, 2009 at 1:19 pm

    One N on myspace.

  • 25 Thomas L. Knapp // Apr 8, 2009 at 4:40 pm

Two Ns in the email I just got from him in response to my query about whether or not he’s interested in running.

He says he’s not — and mentions the possibility that he might not be eligible due to having been born on an Air Force base in Spain, anyway.

I’m a little disappointed, but can’t say as I really blame him.

    Regards,
    Tom Knapp

If he can’t or won’t run for President he ought to consider running for Governor or Congress or something else.
