Green Party Of Pennsylvania calls for action to prevent nomination of John Hanger as Secretary of the Department of Environmental Protection
The Green Party of Pennsylvania and the national Green Party distributed this release
Earlier this month the Pennsylvania Senate Environmental & Energy Committee approved John Hanger’s nomination to serve as the Secretary of the Department of Environmental Protection. Senator Mary Jo White, the Chair of the committee, called for a vote by the entire senate.
In his testimony, Mr. Hanger stated that he and the Governor support the industry in the extraction of natural gas from the Marcellus Shale in Pennsylvania, although he also stated that he and the Governor do not want this development to come at the expense of the environment.
“Actions speak louder than words” says Jay Sweeney of the Green Party. “Mr. Hanger has hastened the permitting process at the behest of the natural gas industry and hired additional DEP inspectors. Unfortunately, that will not protect our water because DEP still permits the drillers to put toxins in the fracking fluid. Until the time that these chemicals and process are banned, our water is threatened and DEP is not fulfilling its mission.”
The Green Party of Pennsylvania calls on all individuals who are concerned about protecting the commonwealth’s water resources to contact their State Senator and urge them to vote “No” on the confirmation of John Hanger to serve as Secretary of the Department of Environmental Protection.

Kimberly, your summary says they call for a “no vote”; I think perhaps you meant to write a “no” vote?

Susan –
I don’t know what you mean. It looks right now.
Thanks,

Kimberly,
Sneaky!
(shouldn’t it be ‘calls for’ rather than ‘calls on’? They aren’t calling for the vote to take action…
