2010 Libertarian Party Platform Committee Nearly Complete

In December the LNC appointed its ten at-large representatives to the 2010 LPUS Platform Committee.  Since then most of the top-ten states have made their appointments.  In order of the latest ranking:

  1. CA – Bruce Dovner
  2. FL – Karl Dickey, alternate Steve LaBianca
  3. TX – Guy McLendon, alternate John Shuey
  4. OH – Paul Campbell
  5. NY – M Carling
  6. VA -
  7. GA – Jason Pye
  8. PA -
  9. IL – Damon Dillon, alternate Crystal Jurczynski
  10. MI – Bill Hall, alternate Dan Grow
The rankings are not final for purposes of determining the composition of the committee until the last day of the seventh month prior to convention, which would be October 31, 2009.

With 2010 Census, states expected to gain/lose seats in Electoral College and US House

After the 2010 census has been held, the number of seats held by each state in the U.S. House of Representatives will change. The National Conference of State Legislatures recently estimated what the 2010 reapportionment will mean for each state.

Applicants Sought For LNC Vacancy

We have vacancy on the LNC. Lee Wrights effectively resigned by not maintaining his Sustaining Membership in the LP, which Article 8, Section 4 of our Bylaws require as a necessary condition of LNC service. Lee became a Sustaining Member on April 7, 2008 and expired last week.

If Lee reestablishes his Sustaining Membership before the July meeting, we would have the option of selecting him to fill the vacancy.… Read more ...

Homeland Security ‘fusion centers’ targeted Cynthia McKinney as a potential threat, as well as supporters of Ron Paul, Bob Barr and Chuck Baldwin

ACLU complaint about the DHS, through the use of “fusion centers”, monitoring the activities of the Left (and Right):

* A May 7, 2008 report entitled “Universal Adversary Dynamic Threat Assessment” authored by a private contractor that labeled environmental organizations like the Sierra Club, the Humane Society and the Audubon Society as “mainstream organizations with known or possible links to eco-terrorism”;

* A potential abuse of authority by DHS officials who improperly monitored and disseminated the communications of peace activists affiliated with the DC Anti-War Network (DAWN);

* A report produced on February 19, 2009 by the North Central Texas Fusion System entitled “Prevention Awareness Bulletin” which described a purported conspiracy between Muslim civil rights organizations, lobbying groups, the anti-war movement, the U.S.

Republican officials get the boot, form a local Modern Whig chapter

In Linn County, Iowa the local Republican party recently held elections for positions within the party.  A new co-chair, secretary, and treasurer of the party were elected, running as a slate.  The people who used to hold these positions, however, have formed a Modern Whig party group on Facebook and are supposedly in the process of forming a local chapter of the party to “separate the conservative stance from the hands of the Evangelical Christian Coalition” that they feel has taken over the Linn County Republican party.… Read more ...
