Could comedian Colbert win for President?

NASA held a nationwide contest to vote on a name for a new room at the international space station. The winning name was “Colbert”, after the television audience of comedian Stephen Colbert won on the write-in vote. Stephen Colbert was previously a candidate for President of the United States (sort of.)

In Arkansas, Democrats again vote down inclusive debate bill

Arkansas: For the second time, the House Committee on State Agencies and Governmental Affairs voted down HB 1863, a debate inclusion bill, aimed at heightening the profile of third-party and independent political candidates. The bill was proposed by Green Party elected official Richard Carroll of North Little Rock.

Green Party lawsuit/ballot access struggle receives mainstream press in Pennsylvania

Alaska purges registration rolls: Stats for party growth/decline

Earlier this month, Alaska purged its list of registered voters. The new registration totals for each party show that in Alaska the two major parties have proportionately gained, whereas voters registered as independents, or as members of minor parties, has declined.

New Mexico eases primary ballot access burden

On March 17, 2009, the New Mexico legislature passed SB 3, which says that candidates for certain offices who are seeking a place on a primary ballot no longer need to petition. This move could later lead to easing petition requirements for ballot qualified minor parties in New Mexico.

This morning, 3/20/09, court heard oral arguments in Nader vs. DNC

Ralph Nader appeared in The US Court of Appeals in his case claiming that the DNC unfairly interfered with his 2004 run for President of the United States. Oral arguments lasted for 43 minutes.
