Examiner Berates Two-Party System

Gary Wood, a Salt Lake City political examiner for Examiner.com has written an article berating the two-party system. Here’s an excerpt:

This is their left and right, liberal and conservative, them or us mentality that both the Democratic National Committee and the Republican National Committee want everyone to engage in. Ever since the two parties took over the organizational structure of the legislative branch, at the beginning of the 20th Century, their goal is to exclude any other groups from political discussion while pretending to really be two different choices. We know these two parties have handed majority power back and forth for the last century leading to less and less difference in how they actually govern.

I will agree that they do not have any copy editors. Not sure how the chairman can be listed as a “former” veteran.

Related to that, it seems that copy editors are the first wave of journalists to lose their jobs as the profession tanks. I find significant errors in almost every online news article and even headline from all mainstream news organizations.

Normally I go out of my way to avoid sounding egotistical, but this is one instance in which I’ll just flat-out say it – I could write an article 100 times better than that guy. (In fact, I’d say that I already have.) Good Lord, was that thing poorly written. It’s literally about the entire reason for my site’s existence (Shameless plug: The Melting Pot Project, the best alternative political site in history!), and part of me doesn’t even want to link to the article because it’s so bad. Do they have ANY copy editors for their site?

Campaign update from Jeff Daiell, Libertarian for Governor of Texas (via email):

    (1) Yesterday, I addressed two consecutive classes at Wharton County Junior College. I was there as a representative of the LP, not as a gubernatorial candidate, but the professor mentioned the campaign.

The first class heard “Respecting the Rights of Individuals”, a general introduction to Libertarianism. The second heard, “The Financial Crisis: Made In Washington”. Even in the first class, however, there was discussion of the current economic meltdown.

The good news cited above is: the alleged consensus the media are claiming has developed in favor of less Liberty and a runaway Federal Government is not as unanimous as they want us to believe. In both classes, students were receptive to the fact that our troubles have been caused by Government interference in the market, especially the housing and banking fields. Several students signed up for more info, and one volunteered for my campaign.

So: the potential for more recruits and more votes is out there. We need to take advantage of it.

    I’ll do what I can:

    (2) I’ll be on internet radio next week (same station as carries Michael’s show), and

    (3) addressing yet another college class on April 13th (Jefferson’s birthday, and just two days before Tax Day).

I hope everyone else will also take heart, and reach out to our fellow Texans with our message of Liberty, of opportunity … and of hope.

Please do what you can to help me as I take this message, and my campaign, across Texas. Please urge your friends to visit my website. Please use the “Contact” page there to volunteer your services.

Also, please donate as much as you can financially. You can do that via the “Donate” page at http://www.JeffDaiell.com

, or you can send a contribution by mail (let me know if you want to be sent a stamped, pre-addressed envelope – call 713-777-1776 between 8 am and 10 PM any day of the week). Every dollar contributed now will help even more than one donated later, although, of course, a contribution is welcome at any point in the campaign!

    For Texas and Liberty,

    Jeff Daiell

No, it’s not really related to third parties. Thanks, though.

Well, I couldn’t agree with this more. The late great comedian George Carlin might have used this quote, but the two-party political system of juggling power is nothing more than two sides of the same coin.

It’s because the change of power comes after 8-12 years that people are given the illusion that something will change. However, as the article states, they end up governing much of the same each time around. In most cases the party that looses power ends up fighting the victor to the point of an extended period of non-decision and stagnation.

Either that, or the party with the newly found power ends up repeated the end result of the previous years, despit going about it via a differnt route.

Slow news day, but stellar article.
