Cindy Sheehan, political activist and Peace Mom, sets up web radio

March 23rd, 2009 · 6 Comments

Cindy Sheehan, author of Peace Mom, came to prominence as a mother inspired to activism for peace. Sheehan’s oldest son, Casey, was killed in Iraq.

Cindy Sheehan gradually became involved in third party politics. In 2006, Sheehan endorsed Green Party candidates Michael Berg for Congress and Malachy McCourt for Governor.

In 2008, Cindy Sheehan ran a spirited campaign for Congress against Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.  Sheehan ran as an independent, and noted her support for the presidential campaigns of both independent Ralph Nader and Green Party candidate Cynthia McKinney. In 2008, Cindy Sheehan stated there was a need for a new, third party. Though, she has not officially begun or named a new party as of yet.

This week, Cindy Sheehan launched a web presence to support her on-line radio show “Cindy Sheehan’s Soapbox.” The March 15th edition is “a conversation [with] Courageous Former Congresswoman from Georgia, Cynthia McKinney, about her run for President, her harrowing boat trip from Cyprus to Gaza, and Cynthia’s new ‘Dignity Movement’”. The March 22nd edition is an interview with theatre artist and peace activist, Jeanmarie Simpson about a character Simpson plays, Jeannette Rankin, the nation’s first female Congressional Representative (R-Mt).

I wonder if Sheehan’s move to web-only will prove to be more cost effective (per listener reached and truth sent out) than broadcast radio. It sure helps to be tunable in a car but on a Sunday at 2:00 PM I wouldn’t imagine this is a major drive-time for most people.

Cindy should join the Green Party and run for Governor in California.

I also don’t understand why Cindy hasn’t joined the Green Party.
Anyone out there in California with any insight?

gawd…who would want to begin a political career by being Governor of California? What with Total Recalls, and Federal mandates, I’m not sure a human can do that job anymore.

Can anyone tell me Sheehan’s position regarding abortion? I noticed on consistent ethic (prolife leftist) website that she was quoted as saying “Life is life: born and unborn.” [-Cindy Sheehan, May 4, 2006] .

Her Congressional campaign site doesn’t list abortion as an issue. She once said “Until we wake up and abhor and are appalled at violence even when it is not directed at unborn babies, or mostly white Americans, we are all condemned to living under regimes that condone, profit from, order and commit mass murder.” That comment could be taken either way regarding abortion.

I would be interested in her ideas regarding a new political party if it incorporated the ideas found at sites like http://www.seamless-garment.org/index.shtml and http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nonlethalalternatives/ .

Is her position regarding abortion what stops her from joining The Greens?

Cindy is fearful of success. She will self sabotage any movement that picks up traction! I take no joy in saying this. She and her people could screw up a two car parade………..
