Orange County Weekly: Buena Park Pastor Wiley Drake believes he still has a prayer of unseating Barack Obama

December 25th, 2008 · 36 Comments

Article by Matt Coker in the Orange County (California) Weekly, December 17.
Interview with Drake is at http://www.ocweekly.com/2008-12-18/news/wiley-drake-barack-obama/

The Preacher vs. the President-Elect
Pastor Wiley Drake thinks he still has a prayer of unseating Barack Obama—sorry, Barack Hussein Obama

First Southern Baptist Church of Buena Park’s irrepressible Pastor Wiley Drake is not discouraged in light of the Dec. 8 announcement the U.S. Supreme Court will not hear a New Jersey man’s case that argued Barack Obama cannot be sworn in as president because his father was a British citizen. Alan Keyes, the American Independent Party’s 2008 presidential candidate, and his running mate, Drake, are plaintiffs in a separate lawsuit knocking around California courts that makes a similar claim about Obama’s birth status. Several other cases are also winding through the nation’s courts in what Drake characterized as a coordinated effort he started to prevent the Jan. 20 inauguration of “the first illegal-alien president in U.S. history.”

Wiley Drake is bigoted and a racist. One of the symptoms of a mentally ill person like himself, is that they have no idea that they are in fact ill. He seems to suffer from several kinds of illnesses. One of them being megalomania. This world would be a much better place for everyone to live, if he would be put into a mental hospital. Because then this world would not be forced to listen to his nonsense. If he really wanted to help and do this world some good, he could start by helping all of the homeless people who live there in his church shelter. Instead of spending all of his time trying to get himself notoriety by trying to get involved in politics. If he wanted to be a politician, he should have tried that. But i have a feeling that he would have been laughed right out of politics. Too bad that nobody is believing any of his insanity. And the sooner he is ignored, the better. He is only interested in his own personal issues such as “boycotting Disneyland” and “boycotting McDonalds”, and trying to get Barack Obama investigated. What a huge ass Drake has made of himself, the biggest idiot on this planet. Obama is already elected President. Drake is just hugely jealous because a black man has been elected President. And considering that Drake was a member of the KKK while in ARkansas, it’s not too surprising that he is protesting Obama’s election to President. It should be a concern of the Baptist churches everywhere, that Drake was run out of ARkansas. IT’s no doubt that is because he did something illegal there and is now trying to get away with more of his nonsense in California. He needs to shut up and stop spouting off nonsense.

Mental illness doesn’t exist, and he should have free speech, and I agree with his work on allowing religions to have political opinions. But yes Wiley Drake is a moron.

How can Pastor Drake be a racist if he is running with Alan Keyes, a black man?

  • 4 cinamingrl // Dec 27, 2008 at 1:20 pm

(((How can Pastor Drake be a racist if he is running with Alan Keyes, a black man?)))
IF you met him you’d know. He will do anything do get himself some kind of notoriety in the media. He also has a black man working for him at his homeless shelter. But that doesn’t mean that he isn’t racist. And he was an active member of the Klu Klux Klan while in Arkansas. Furthermore, is in an inbred.

  • 5 paulie cannoli // Dec 27, 2008 at 1:23 pm

    Cinamingirl,

Do you have any evidence for the KKK thing, or any other allegations?

  • 6 JimDavidson // Dec 27, 2008 at 3:14 pm

I get about 28 hits at google for
    “pastor wiley drake” KKK Arkansas
and a few more for various permutations on that theme.

A typical one is a comment by “Christine” in the Orange County weekly.
    http://www.ocweekly.com/2008-12-18/news/wiley-drake-barack-obama/1
Click “show comments” to see hers.

Of course, Christine might be cinamingrl. Neal Young would be so proud.

    Searching for
    “Wiley Drake” KKK Arkansas
I get as many as 225 hits. All of them seem to be comments. I even found one by cinamingrl herself on “Grace and Truth to you” blogspot.

  • 7 cinamingrl // Dec 27, 2008 at 5:31 pm

He talks openly about it in his church services. It isn’t a secret. I have heard him talk about it in person.

  • 8 paulie cannoli // Dec 27, 2008 at 6:02 pm

I haven’t. Of course, I don’t attend attend his church or know him in person.

Is it in youtube somewhere? His own writings that are publicly available? Newspaper articles that can be found online?

If true, has he renounced the klan?

  • 9 Trent Hill // Dec 27, 2008 at 6:27 pm

I dont think this is true. I have alot against Wiley Drake, but I doubt he’s an outright racist.

  • 10 JimDavidson // Dec 27, 2008 at 6:29 pm

@7 Wow. Well, bring a video camera next time!

  • 11 cinamingrl // Dec 27, 2008 at 9:13 pm

No he isn’t an “outright” racist. And from what he has said he “was” a Klan member. But he says openly in his church that he was one of the higher ups in the K K K. This isn’t a lie, I heard it myself. And if you want to really get it from the source then maybe you should call him yourself. I know for a fact that he answers his cell phone at any hour of the day or night. His number is on the Internet, his cell that is. If you want it, then email me. I have it.

  • 12 paulie cannoli // Dec 28, 2008 at 11:47 am

If it’s already on the internet, you can just post it here.

  • 13 Trent Hill // Dec 28, 2008 at 12:06 pm

    cinamingrl,

So he says in church that he WAS with the KKK, but now openly endorses and runs with Alan Keyes? Sounds like one of those recovery stories to me. My old preacher was once an alchoholic, but now runs an AA meeting out of his home weekly.

  • 14 cinamingrl // Dec 28, 2008 at 5:22 pm

Again, Drake is ill. Wiley Drake is an inbred. He is obsessed with gays and “homosexuals”. Any person who knows about him knows that he is crazy. He has an entire congregation of homeless people who he doesn’t help. People live in the bushes and around his church property. Some are alcoholics and addicts. Some just need a temporary place to live and some compassion. But that isn’t what he is about. He is about making a lot of noise and trying to become famous. He is making a name for himself alright, a name and reputation for being insane. A lot of enabling goes on at his shelter, enabling and abuse. The Health Department is at his shelter literally thousands of times a year, thousands. It’s so filthy. The police told me themselves.

  • 15 paulie cannoli // Dec 28, 2008 at 5:54 pm

LOL. I think I just figured out what the beef here might be, from visiting cinamingirl’s page.

  • 16 JimDavidson // Dec 28, 2008 at 6:11 pm

Since I don’t want to visit tripod pages posted by unknown persons, maybe you could give a brief overview?

  • 17 paulie cannoli // Dec 28, 2008 at 6:35 pm

clue #1, comment 1: “If he really wanted to help and do this world some good, he could start by helping all of the homeless people who live there in his church shelter. Instead of spending all of his time trying to get himself notoriety by trying to get involved in politics.”

clue #2, comment 4: “He also has a black man working for him at his homeless shelter. But that doesn’t mean that he isn’t racist. ”

clue #3, coment 7: “He talks openly about it in his church services. It isn’t a secret. I have heard him talk about it in person.”

clue #4, comment 11: “I know for a fact that he answers his cell phone at any hour of the day or night. ”

additional clues in comment 14: “. He is obsessed with gays and “homosexuals”. … He has an entire congregation of homeless people who he doesn’t help. … Some just need a temporary place to live and some compassion. …. A lot of enabling goes on at his shelter, enabling and abuse. The Health Department is at his shelter literally thousands of times a year, thousands. It’s so filthy. ”

Final clue: lesbian drawings on cinamingirl’s webpage, which says her name is Christine (see your comment 6).

So, my guess is that Christine is likely to be someone who enjoys the company of women in more than a casual or friendly manner, and may have been kicked out of Drake’s shelter because of that, due to his own religious beliefs and being judgmental in not allowing that on his property. Possibly same with alcohol and illegal drugs. If not, then maybe her girlfriend was.

After all she knows him pretty well, knows that he answers the phone at all hours of the day and night and what kind of phone it is, knows the inside of the shelter and who works there.

  • 18 cinamingrl // Dec 28, 2008 at 7:54 pm

    No, try again. LOL!

  • 19 Leftwingedliberal // Dec 28, 2008 at 9:12 pm

(((LOL. I think I just figured out what the beef here might be, from visiting cinamingirl’s page.)))
No you missed the point completely. The “beef” isn’t the gays although the Rightists would love this to be the real problem. The “beef” is the Pastor and his uncompassionate attitude. Not Cinamingrl’s art. Haven’t any of you rightists every seen or read Manga? I’d guess not. It doesn’t appear that any of you knows the problem since you do not live in the Orange County area of Califirnia. Literally everyone who lives in the city of Buena Park and surrounding areas know of this Pastor’s antics. He wastes time on his own agenda trying to get his stupid face and loud mouth in the press. When the people who he should be helping are right there under his nose. And as far as women liking women and the Pastor’s supposed intolerance of that,……if that is all he is worried about, then that congregation is hurting more than we all realize. He tolerates women being abused at his shelter, but he doesn’t tolerate gays? This is insane. Cinamingrl can use the same rights to voice her opinion about Wiley Drake, that Drake himself hides behind to spew his bogotry and delusions of grandeur.

  • 20 paulie cannoli // Dec 28, 2008 at 9:27 pm

    Christine,

(((No one else quotes text this way.)))

The “beef” is the Pastor and his uncompassionate attitude. Not Cinamingrl’s art. Haven’t any of you rightists every seen or read Manga?

I’m not a rightist, I like your drawings, and if I ran a shelter, you would be welcome to have lesbian sex there, since I have nothing against it.

As for alcohol and drugs, it would depend on whether it was leading to behavior that would make things too difficult for other people there.

As it stands, I am more likely headed in the direction of staying at a shelter than running one.

It doesn’t appear that any of you knows the problem since you do not live in the Orange County area of Califirnia.

I’ve lived there before. Some of my frequent residences in OC were the Covered Wagon motel in west Anaheim and the OC jails (in SA and the farm).

And as far as women liking women and the Pastor’s supposed intolerance of that,……if that is all he is worried about, then that congregation is hurting more than we all realize.

It wouldn’t worry me, but it’s his property and he has a right to his religious beliefs. He doesn’t have to run a shelter and help anyone; he can do so on his own terms, even though they are not mine.

He tolerates women being abused at his shelter, but he doesn’t tolerate gays? This is insane.

Do you have specific evidence of abuse? As for what he tolerates, it’s his property and his business. My rules would be entirely different if I was in charge.

Cinamingrl can use the same rights to voice her opinion about Wiley Drake, that Drake himself

Certainly, even if she choose to make allegations and not provide evidence, or use multiple screen names.

    One love.

  • 21 Steven R Linnabary // Dec 28, 2008 at 9:38 pm

I helped start a homeless shelter several years ago. It was a thankless task.

We couldn’t get the city to allow a zoning variance, so we opened without one. The zoning laws did not have a “variance” for a shelter. Cops tried to shut us down several times. They would always back off when we called the TV stations. :-)

Some of the folks we were helping bitched constantly about how little we were doing for them. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches? Why, they were men! They needed meat!

And the filth!! Try keeping a place clean with 60-120 people around constantly! But we did do what we could, with the funding that we had.

And of course the media was around lot, especially when temperatures dropped. Enough that some people said we did it just for the media attention.

    PEACE

welcome to have lesbian sex there, since I have nothing against it

If you are good looking, I might ask to watch or join in, but I wouldn’t insist. Is that abuse?

Some of my frequent residences in OC were the Covered Wagon motel in west Anaheim and the OC jails (in SA and the farm)

Also, the other rathole motels around Beach and Ball, but the Covered Wagon was my main spot.

{{{As it stands, I am more likely headed in the direction of staying at a shelter than running one. }}}I volunteer at a sheltere in Santa Ana, email me and I will give you the number. I tried to find your email but could not.
I went to the Santa ana women’s shelter after leaving Drake’s crazy house. And I was abused by someone while I was staying there at Drake’s. When I left, Drake called me several times on my cell phone saying “so how big was that big black dick?” Referring to his black bible study employee. I was not the only women taken advantage of while there. When I went to the women’s shelter, my life changed dramatically for the better. And I have not been homeless since then. And no i am not mentally ill. Now I have my own beautiful apartment where I’ve been for a year, with a precious kitten and I live near a convent where I stayed for a few months, saving money. I am of course struggling in this bad economy, but still making it in my own place. And one night a week I go back to the women’s shelter and volunteer on the intake desk. I also have spent Christmas mornings there for the last 3 years, as that place was to me like a real home.
The thing is, that people do not understand the homeless problem. And Drake is only using his pulpit and position to get his own “notoriety” as he calls it. The truth is that he does not care about the homeless.
I had (and still have) post-traumatic stress disorder from my experience at Drake’s. His church and shelter are nothing less than a small cult, with absolutely no power.
Drake is a very very ill person. And he seems only to get worse. People are allowed to stay there for years upon years, with no job and are never transitioning into a real life after Drake’s. I was literally lucky to get out alive. I am not joking or trying to be dramatic. I had lost 35 pounds and my own mother barely recognized me.
The only reason that place is still standing is because Drake hides behind his “religious organization” status. And the FSB Church does nothing about him. They are embarrassed by him. IF he were a real shelter program, it would have been closed down years ago. The Buena PArk police told me that I should sue him and take the building and then burn it down. They hate him.
He spreads rumors about the BP police constantly in church and in his shelter.
Anyone can email me for more info.

    {{{Also, the other rathole motels around Beach and Ball, but the Covered Wagon was my main spot.}}}
I’ve seen that place. The entire area gives me flashbacks if I go there. Its frightening to me.

I stayed at the Motor Inn Lodge on Orangethorpe above Beach, after i left the dirty shelter, while I was waiting for my interview for the women’s shelter. The desk clerk told me some strange stories about Drake. He said that years ago, DRake was accused of abusing a woman, a very young woman while she was at his shelter. So the police were paying her to stay at the Motor Inn while they took reports on him.

volunteer at a sheltere in Santa Ana, email me and I will give you the number. I tried to find your email but could not.

Thank you, I appreciate that. But I’m not in that part of the country now.

When I went to the women’s shelter, my life changed dramatically for the better.

Glad to hear you are doing better.

The thing is, that people do not understand the homeless problem.

It’s not easy to understand for those who haven’t experienced it. A lot of people’s perspectives would change if they spent a week on the streets.

  • 27 cinamingrl // Dec 28, 2008 at 10:27 pm

{{{{But I’m not in that part of the country now.}}}Were you ever at that shelter? That entire area is full of prostitutes and crime now. What were you doing staying at those places?

  • 28 Steven R Linnabary // Dec 28, 2008 at 10:30 pm

    You should’ve fed them libertarianism

Sorta’ did. Of the core group of 15 or so that helped to start the shelter, most of us had ties to the Catholic Worker movement:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholic_worker

But that doesn’t mean that those we were trying to help wanted to hear anything about anarchism, or even about political activism.

    PEACE

  • 29 paulie cannoli // Dec 28, 2008 at 10:32 pm

Were you ever at that shelter?

No, I never stayed at any shelters there. Just motels and jail.

That entire area is full of prostitutes and crime now. What were you doing staying at those places?

    Prostitutes and crime.

Well, not all the time. Also petitioning and sparechanging, and voter registration.

I got clean again about a year later. Well, not 100%, but I got the monkey off my back.

  • 30 paulie cannoli // Dec 28, 2008 at 10:33 pm

    Prostitutes and crime.

    Oh yeah. And drugs.

  • 31 cinamingrl // Dec 28, 2008 at 10:37 pm

{{{Just motels and jail.}}}Hmm motels are way too expensive. And I never fell into the scene around there with drugs and having to go to jail.

    {{{…Also petitioning and sparechanging,…}}}What’s petitioning?

I guess I don’t have an addicts brain. Drugs just never appealed to me.

  • 32 paulie cannoli // Dec 28, 2008 at 10:39 pm

    What’s petitioning?

Getting signatures to put issues on the ballot. Each signature you get pays money and sometimes you can stack them and have people sign a bunch at a time. The pay varies a lot.

  • 33 Steven R Linnabary // Dec 28, 2008 at 10:42 pm

    What’s petitioning?

    A form of prostitution. :-)

Petitioning is collecting signatures for a political cause/party/candidate. Usually for about $1 per signature.

To Wiley Drake Senior: If you read this, just know this…..
    I hate you.

I hate your lack of compassion for so many other humans.
I hate your thick hick Arkansas slang and your dirty-white-trash accent.
I hate your obsession with needing to put down gays.
I hate that you always wanted to talk about sex and “big black dicks” and penis sizes.
I hate that you oppress women.
    I hate your loud mouth.
    I hate your total ignorance.
I hate the filthy stinking mod where people are supposed to sleep.
I hate having to listen to your blow-hard church services, where you practiced your hatred spewing.
I hate the way that you and Wiley jr. accept that people are not supposed to move on and transition into a real life and find a place to live.
I hate the way that you use your pulpit to further your own agenda and sick ideas about how people should live their lives.
I hate your beady eyes looking at me.
I hate your mental illness and the way that you think that all women are after you.
    I hate your delusional mind.
I hate the nightmares that I still have, to this day, of that horrendous experience at your church.

  • 35 cinamingrl // Dec 28, 2008 at 10:48 pm

Oh and I hate the way that you project your mental illness onto EVERYONE else.

  • 36 cinamingrl // Dec 28, 2008 at 11:08 pm

And I meant it when I said that I reported you to the police. Along with your bible study employee, and you know who I am talking about.
