  Excellent and very interesting. I guess an observation would be, in Maine (for example) it looks like we’d need 27,000 signatures to officially become a party, but only 4000 to get on the Pres ballot. Shouldn’t the focus be on consistently getting the 4000 before going for more?

  The assertion that George Phillies was a stand-in candidate on the NH petition form is not true. George was not the stand-in, he was elected by NH state convention to be the NHLP nominee. NH law is clear in that they do not allow substitution, so any petitioning for the candidate who wins the nomination at the national conventuion would have to wait until after the convention, so the right name could be on the ballot. This caused the LP to miss the ballot in NH in 2004, and wanting to avoid that again, NH decided to run their own candidate and start petitioning right away. George was never a “stand-in” for NH.

  Now, it should also be noted that NH could have waiting until after the convention. The petitioning for Barr didn’t start until after the NatCon and Barr was able to get on the ballot.

  Does the information about Austin Petersen’s gold mine investment / book project mean that he is conducting this business on staff time, or is he just keeping us up-to-date on his hobbies?

  I’d like to see more information about outreach to antiwar constituencies, not just the current emphasis on economic conservatism.

  I think there will be a huge opening in the peace movement as the “Anti-Republican-War” movement scampers for the exits. If Libertarians take their place, I believe it will do us a world of good in the long run.

  The same can be said of movements for social tolerance.
