Kansas City Star slams LP bailout press release

December 13th, 2008 · 10 Comments

The Kansas City Star’s political column “The Buzz” has this to say about the Libertarian Party press release on the auto industry bailout:

“In case you missed it, the nation’s largest third party also opposed appropriating $14 billion of taxpayer money to bail out the American automotive industry. ‘It’s insanity,’ said Libertarian Party spokesman Andrew Davis. Instead, the Libertarians favored letting the auto companies file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, taking down the U.S. economy with them. Now, that’s sane. … The Buzz says the party also stands to lose just about every election its candidates run in.”

The notion that forcing management of the big 3 to get new work while the assets are restructured into a profitable business, or several, would “bring down the economy” is idiotic, collectivist crap.

The good news is, the KC Star is among the many papers facing bankruptcy.

In other words the Constitution is not sane.

    @ 1

Couldn’t have said it better myself, Jim.

Actually, the KC Star opened a great window for local Missourians.

Most newspapers will run Letters to the Editor which oppose their previously run editorials.

So this is merely an opportunity for local Libertarians and other great Americans to voice their opposition to corporate welfare.

Isn’t there a big auto industry component in the KC economy?

I think a dangerous precedent has been set as far as bailouts go. Who gets one and who doesn’t?

Appointing a commissar of production is not the answer, certainly.

Not our answer, but – all the crowning of czars can only leading to one thing:

    A czar czar.

No company should be bailed out. You either turn a profit or you go broke. It’s that simple. You produce cars people want or you go fuck your mom.
